I finally got some CosClay to try, and honestly I'm impressed with the results. Will this replace plastic/resin for me? Probably not, but it is EXCELLENT for sculptures that you want to be resilient and impact resistant.

Q: "What is that metal mold?" A: The soldier and accessory molds are from the Mattel ThingMaker line from the 1950s. Cosclay TIPS for SUCCESS on your first try: - Bake it at the RIGHT TEMP, for the right time: 275°F (135°C) for at least 30 minutes per ¼” - Don't bake it at the WRONG TEMP! (LOL! I know it's redundant, but Cosclay will NOT be strong unless baked at that HIGHer temp for long enough.) - Don't be afraid of crumbly clay; it's easy to re-condition. - Don't flex the part right after removal from oven. Let sit and cool before flexing. (Bending fresh out of the oven can easily cause a split/tear.) - Consider WET-SANDING. This will not only cut down on little breathable particles floating around, but it will reduce surface drag which is helpful on the semi-rigid material.) - Know that you can add fresh Cosclay, to cured Cosclay and BAKE AGAIN. Steady Craftin videos are made with the help of DIRECT SUPPORT: www.patreon.com/steadycraftin (You'll also get access to the printable 3D scans of my original sculpted figures, MP3s, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, shop discounts, and more.) My family and I are so grateful that I get to do this.

My old friend Crafsman, I have a question that I've been wondering about for about for nearly two years .....what happened to the video where you showed off your camera collection? Did I imagine it? It was from waaaaaay back I believe, but I loved it. I don't know........ it was calming I suppose and one of the early days when I discovered your channel. But now, I can't find the video anymore no matter what I type in (btw your video on EXPOSURE basics I am ashamed to admit I've probably watched 20 times lol 😆). Anyway, best wishes to you and your family and save me some fig preserves and I'll send you a Virginia ham and some gravy 🤣

@@justsomeguy9325 Hey buddy! :D My first thought was the "Things I like" video. But if I'm recalling right, where I showed off the most old cameras was in the video about recording sound effects: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7yuo4ALLz2A.html Let me know if that ain't it and I'll try to find it! :)

@@TheCrafsMan Thanks so much for replying. This wasn't the one I was thinking of but that's totally fine because I really like that video too. ......then again, I like everything you put out LOL. Also, as you've been re-releasing the older unlisted videos I'm sure the one I was thinking of will turn up, and if it doesn't then 🤷🏿‍♂️ no worries at all, there's PLENTY of great stuff on this channel 😁. Oh man those molds from Mattel bring back memories. Back from a time when kid toys could be dangerous. They are Thing Maker molds which had you injecting melted plastic.
@TheCrafsMan
@TheCrafsMan Год назад
Oh mannnnn, I wince thinking about some of the toys from back then. LOL! I never had the really dangerous stuff but heard all about the old chemistry sets with chemicals that you can't get (and don't WANT) now. :)
@modelermark172
@modelermark172 Год назад
Those vintage Mattel molds shown in the thumbnail are what first caught my attention to this video. I had one of those Mattel "Fighting Men" Thingmaker sets when I was about eight. I still can't believe I was allowed to mess around with dangerous stuff like that as a kid. I also helped my older cousins who cast toy soldiers out of lead(!) on their kitchen stove . . . . As an aside, I remember that the tank you could make out of the provided camouflaged cardstock and detailed with parts made from the molds looked more like the 21st Century M1 Abrams that was still years away from being designed, than the Vietnam-Era M48 - M60 Patton series in use when this toy was new. No doubt this was because it was easier to make flat sided paper models than ones needing to simulate cast, compound curves, but still . . . .

I had that Mattel Thingmaker soldier mold as a kid! It definitely was designed to have wires put in to make a bendable. The ones they supplied were very thin and tended to break after a few bends though. You should try to get a hold of some old SuperGoop, the liquid plastic you'd squirt into the mold and bake on the little hot plate. It also cured flexible but was just a single liquid in a bottle. You also might like their creature and monster molds for future projects!

I had the setup, but don't remember anything about what I used to make figurines. I know I used homemade play dough for a bit.
@GabrielBadwolf

Baby oil works just as well as softener (I have my suspicions it’s the same thing in the clay softener bottles) and if it gets too sticky cornflower works wonders.
@koinijikoimizu
@koinijikoimizu Год назад
Some clay softeners *are* just liquid plasticizers vs baby oil which is pretty much mineral oil. You're totally right about corn flour/starch being helpful but too much can cause the clay to become brittle after baking as it can leech out the plasticizers inside.
