Beautiful sculpt and a big Thank You!! You included everything for the beginner. Tools, materials, and techniques. This is why they invented RU-vid and you have helped all of us immeasurably!
Michael Beesch AMEN TO THAT!! I have learned so much from people on RU-vid. Crochet, knitting, quilting, now sculpting. I'm thankful for RU-vid every day lol
what the hell!! im studying fine arts and im on my first year, we have to sculpt a hand and you make it look too easy xD i'll follow your video n lets see what happens c':
@@Alex-dj1os i'm actually doing it again because i didn´t pass. didn´t have too much motivation but i am much better this year! so far i passed all courses
This is such a helpful video, love how clearly you explain all the steps and the end result is beautiful. I really appreciate you for positing this tutorial. Cheers!
After reading through your comments, I'm almost embarrassed to leave one.. Some Fu#*ing people! Your videos are awesome. They are more helpful to a new sculptor than you could know. Thank you for making them, and please make more! I will never get bored of this.
For now, I can not read the silhouette of my sculptors because I do not have a proper studio with these black walls. I'm Just beginner. And i started with some base sculpting. Аlso and clay. I'm trying different clay to figure out how they work. But now i will create atelier first. Maybe my question is stupid but how you create this black room or what it is it. Some black cloth / fabric or ? I collect ideas for what i must to do. Black fabric and maybe good backlighting is needed to create appropriate studio.
Very nice video and great explanations. Is it necessary to have an accurate knowledge of the anatomy of the hand to do such sculpture? Thanks for the useful content in this video. Julien.
Cool! Thank you! Question... My son sculpted his hand out of clay in college (now I know how he did it!) and it is not staying secured to its wooden base. How can I retro-secure it so that I can make a "sconce" out of it (to hold an edison bulb pendant light cord) which I would then want to fasten to a wall for use? Can you help me with an idea on how I can secure it? Epoxy? The clay is still malleable. Is that normal? Is there a way to protect it from falling or getting dinged up? I want to try to surprise him. Thanks for any help. Blessings! :)
Hey sorry for the late response. I try not to blend the clay too much, it's really annoying to be sculpting on a soft surface and suddenly hit a chunk of hard clay.
What happened to the noun “sculpture”? “Sculpts” is the second-person, singular, present, active, indicative of the verb “to sculpt.” It is not a noun.
I know this may be a bit late, but I am trying to create a hand sculpture for my high school portfolio, and I'm only a beginner at clay, so this may sound like a naive question, but how do you go about dealing with captured moisture, as well as airbubles trapped?
Great artwork. I do not understand: do you remove the sculpture from the wooden board before burning it in the oven? If yes, how do you then get the metal out?
Thanks! And these ones don't get baked in the oven since they're water-based clay and it would just melt. This type of clay never fully dries so even 5 years from now you could go back and work on that sculpt if you felt like it.
My clay hardens so it's hard to get back to the sculpt if you don't finish it in one sitting. I can't soften it by heat when it's on the armature. Tips?
Sounds like you're using water based clay? I would suggest switching to oil-based if you want it to not harden and dry so quickly. Unfortunately I have no experience with water-based clay, sorry about that!
I am actually using the exact same clay as you are using in the video. It's easier to work with after heating but as it colder it hardens a bit and if i leave it out overnight it's not as malleable as after heating. Also, i have a question about posing the fingers. When i pose them they break by the joints and i have to fill in with extra clay where the breakage is but when you do it they don't break, how come? Thanks for awesome videos.
kingcunt maybe make it a bit warmer with a dryer so it will get softer? just a thought of mine, sadly never used oil based but thats what i would try :)
use 3d to create body maybe a better choice……but i prefer to use clay to create head……because 3d printing is always a little out of the shape……😂i don't know why
With the Chavant nsp hard clay it's quite sturdy and wont really displace in normal room temperature and it would work fine for display. Its also a good idea to o a mold and replicate the mode, that way you can reuse the clay and still have a replica of your model! :) I dont have any experience with the medium or soft clay, so I can only speak for the hard one. Its really fun working with this sort of clay, def give it a try! :P Hope that helped
cliffedward Don't be a douche canoe. Clay is messy, and wooden tools are never going to look pristine if you use them often. His tools are fine, obviously, I mean look what he just made! Appreciate the art, man.
