In this video I show you the time lapse process of sculpting the ear using a brown non-drying modeling clay. The sculpture took about 6 hours of sculpting to finish and then I cast it in plaster. Links below to learn traditional sculpting online!

I’m not sure if you gave this tip, but a little trick phrase I heard someone else use to remember how to do ears is “the question is why” because the edge looks like a question mark and the inner cartilage sticks out in the shape of the letter Y. Also, because the ears are often tucked onto the head, it can be useful to sort of shape them away from the head and push them on after they are more formed. These methods apply to both digital and traditional sculpting. In most cases where there are strong lips and folds it can be useful to apply and shape tiny amounts of clay and use tools to tuck that in and shape it. Sort of like performing a little plastic surgery on the clay. Some people like to start with less and build up and some like to use more and cut down, either way the tiniest little alteration can totally redefine the work.

I have seen now every video from you sculpting but until now, i dont understand HOW you smooth the surface. Its so hard, i use my hands and nothing. Andi use Soft Clay, its to soft maybe.

@@ginteacher8185 it is really about slowly tooling the surface and finalizing the forms. I like to roll the tool over the surface of the sculpture. My sculptures aren’t perfectly smooth but the texture is small enough and the forms accurate enough so that it gives the illusion of smooth and refined surface.
