Scum is getting ready to update to 0.9, which is fantastic, but that means it is one step closer to 1.0. Will Scum 1.0 be the full release? I am not sure, there is still a ton of stuff that Scum needs to add - which I go into in this scum review of scum gameplay 2023. Dayz, Rust, and other survival games do things better than Scum, but Scum does things better than them as well, so I suppose its all about how you balance different gameplay mechanics. Scum Gameplay is great at times, but some of the gameplay doesn't make sense to me. I hope you enjoy this scum review, let me know your thoughts below. And I will see you in the next one, path out.

The player interaction issue really isn't anything the devs did or didn't do. It's about the type of player the game has attracted.

I think it would help if there were some incentive for the inmates to work together against the establishment instead of running around killing and raiding each other.

Today i was alone in the new solo/duo server in a town, i see a player from a second floor, i go down and speak to him by voice chat and now we are a duo, a complete strangers doing interaction. Is the type of player you find, i think that if the game give some incentive to work together still been players that do KoS.

i have had some ok interactions, people helped me with some food and water when askin, I have helped others, even once giving a vehicle to two new players that I was planning to sell etc. What I dont like is that no one at all uses the in game mic, its all just global chat even when standing in front of each other. I have never heard anyone talk but in DayZ it seems common to use mic.. or get shot if not using it.

​@@PathfinderPlays well, that actually depends on HOW you play Scum. Different playstyles attract different ppl. I personally like to play casual solo, and I'll visit different servers than, for example, hardcore survivalist or PVPer will. Different type of ppl.

Just the basics for me. Jumping animation is ott. You jump 5m and 6 ft high. Guns sound tinty and feel weightless. Great game though

Heyy I'm one of the animators working on Scum, thanks for your feedback about the jumping animation, we'll see what we can do about that! There are also some problems with other animations that we are aware of that we'll be working on, but please bare in mind that we are a team of 5 animators so we have to make priorities about what's more important to implement and/or rework (sometimes our hands are tied), I hope that's understandable :) But feedback is always more than welcome (we read the comments as much as we can) so feel free to throw in anything else you think could be made better or implemented, cheers!

Great to have you in our community :) Unfortunately I cannot disclose much, all I could say is that we will be reworking some animations that are used most often, we'll see how we will prioritize those. Sorry I couldn't share more, but I wouldn't want to piss off Tomi or my supervisors 😅 But work has already begun on the next update, maybe in the coming months you'll see some hints as to what we're working on ;)

I feel like scum went through or is still going through an identity crisis that started around .6 or so. It seems like lots of decisions have been made contrary to the original spirit of the game since then, and i really wish it would go more back to what was originally committed to - missions, game show characteristics, pve world events to draw people together and potentially force them to cooperate at least for a while. Without those, it kinda just feels like pointless overly complex survival with no real end game loop

Yeah I feel where you are coming from om for sure. We need a map rework, npc's, missions, and events that require copperative effort to encourage players to play together, at least for a minute.

I'm just going to sound like a broken record, and once again say that there needs to be more PVE elements in the game to justify the size of the map. Yes, this is a daunting and ambitious approach, and it will add many more additional years of development required, but I think this is what it needs. A whole host of various roaming wild life, teaming throughout the map. Far more variety of puppets/sentries/monsters/etc, with more various mechanics in terms of their behaviors', defense and attack methods, as well as more spawns of them. If I look at a game like Ark: Survival Evolved - where most of my gaming hours have been poured into, as least the PVE side of that game - Gamepires need to do something in that vein.

having just got the game, yeah it does feel a lot like dayz in some aspects. maybe more things in the world to do outside of looking for food, clothes and weapons would be good. the size is not that bad when there is a pretty good variaty of puppets and houses to explore but I admit it does feel a little same same at times.

that wont happen because of limitations or the modified unreal engine 4 version they are using. The heavily modified it with a tonne of code and to rebuild it onto a newer engine would be like starting from scratch almost. something a bout a limit of rigged skeletons the engine can handle. in single player, you could push it much further. but the recent changes to the way puppets spawn and the removal of most animals was due to this soft limitation. Its about Network packet performance or something, as the rigged skeletons on the map are a constant. Meaning even if you are in the south corner, network packet data is sending up and down stream tracking every player, puppet and animal on the map movements, as if they were right in your cross hairs. add to that bases, chests and vehicles being a constant also, that the server needs to keep real time data sending of location condition etc. I have read about it but wont say I fully understand it. But I think I understand enough to say, while ofc the idea of a living GTA style map is great (animals etc ofc not pedestrians and cars npcs), it comes down to some limitations the devs are facing.

Simple Suggestions that would Fix a lot of SCUMs issues: 1- Basic trapping for animals in early game, Stick +wire = snare. Add bait for bonus.. catch rabbit or rats. Solves early game meat and starvation issues. Doesnt effect server performance. 2: Bunkers should not always be open to entering.. Each bunker should have some type of access window when its avail to loot. and be announced server wide. This would draw pvp to certain locations , much like airdrops and other events. [ Bunker 7 unlocks in 10 , 9 , 8 ... so on 3: Xp and skill grinding is STILL too slow even fully buffed for this new low attention span / instant gratification generation of gamers they have to draw in. 4: Base Raiding /Defending needs more attention and balance. They could take a few more notes from Rust on this one. 5: Better marketing team. I left SCUM back in 2020 and really havent seen or heard anyone outside the community who even knows about it. I tell people about it whenver i play Rust , DayZ or other survival games,and they never heard of SCUm...

I HATE the new Hunting System. i miss seeing animals randomly around the map. the world is a little less "Full" a few things i would LOVE to see in SCUM (as a long time player) Adjustable Loot Values Per Zone, Adjustable Puppet Density per Zone so we can Create "Hot Spots" and push some more player interaction. the ability to Force Where players spawn on Death. (On the Coast etc) a fleshed out PvP Event System that is Instanced so that players can still build bases in those zones. all in all i enjoy the SCUM experience but there are always ways to improve

One little fix would increase player interaction: Have the highest Fame player active on the map have a small zone drawn around their location in real-time on the map. It would be like an ongoing game of King of the Mountain or Smear the Qu- -r. It's supposed to be a game show or reality show, like the Hunger Games, so why wouldn't they up the ante for the best (most watched) player?

I Agree that hunting is now terrible; It seems to be designed by someone that has never hunted before and I just buy food as it's easier than "tracking" an invisible animal's tracks 10 times leading across the grid to then spawn the animal for me to try to kill it by again running across the grid. So no need to learn cooking cuz Im never going to hunt. If the devs wanted more player interaction they would've made new spots for the latest bunkers instead of gutting half the old ones. There would be more interaction if there were only say 3 new bunkers on the map. The devs keep turning the game into whatever they can find on the Unreal Engine that is on sale.

The PVP in the game is great, it's basically the only reason I have put thousands of hours into the game. For me, something that will bring me back is a smaller map with a higher player count. The servers/game is really unoptimized and desync is crazy when the pop goes past 90. If they keep making the map bigger, player interaction will be terrible and the game will die. When they made the map bigger a long time ago, it did not even excite me all too much.

past 90.. why do you think the officials is a 64 cap?? There are many pvp games, you can play pubg etc. Its better for pvp than Scum. This is a Survival game with the chance to encounter pvp or encounter others and help each other. The goal of the game is not to kill others. Yes there is reward from it, but you can also be rewarded by helping someone too. PubG Cod etc, the whole point is pvp. so the map is smaller denser population etc. You can also play servers set up for battle royal in scum. Dont be pushing on devs to make it a casual pvp game with a smaller map because you only enjoy pvp elements. Single player or pve servers are boring. The threat of pvp encounters are good, but it should not be the entire focus of this, a survival game.

@@oynlengeymer2434 Even if we ignore pvp entirely, the game is not optimized in the slightest and making the map bigger will not help that lmao. On top of that, what is the point of making a bigger map? Why cant they just focus on filling in the empty space on the map (Which they have been doing a good job with). I dont even know why you are complaining about me wanting a higher pop because that would increase the player interaction that you seem to like. Making the map bigger would decrease that as players would continue to be spread out. Even if there was 90 people on a server which is really good nowadays, that would be about 3.6 people per sector if they are completely spread out. That is bad and will get worse if the size increases. I don't want to play a battle royale or arcade style shooter, I want to play Scum. If they make the elements that I talked about in my comment better, it would not only help the pvp but also the game in general. If you dont want a constant pvp focus (Which most servers are pushing for because the majority of the playerbase wants that), then join a rp server. There is a reason why servers like Noobland (major pvp server) have been at the top of the server list for years. The pve is not exciting in the slightest although this update may help slightly with that.

@@trevor1690 see here is the thing... You have noob land, you have server rights to push player count past 64 and you can I believe create the centre of the map at a location of your choice. Maybe not yet but I'm sure soon they will allow restricted zones. Just like the closing circle of BR mode but staying in place. We have safe zones and can set many rules to them. Restricted zones only need to deal constant damage while in them meaning basically a border. Effectively shrinking the map to the size and location of the admins choice. With such options for the PvP kids, why should the devs have to steer away from making a survival game that has a CHANCE of encountering PvP. I never said I enjoy PvP. I said I like the fact that the threat of it is there. Without any chance of it, you become complacent and it gets boring as there is no unseen threat. I play on low pop server and feel I run into people often enough in this kind of game. Usually at cargo drops bridges or military poi's. I'm not seeking PvP engagement. Often if they don't see me I just watch. If I have an clear shot I will take it. Otherwise I just wait until they go by. It's weird how I fully explained myself the first time and you read it as I also want more PvP.. The map is big yes. Part of this game is also finding a place to make a base. Smaller map means bases found faster and raided. The elements I do agree on is to fill the map with more poi's and npcs but they seem to have that on their radar and are taking step towards doing that.

You can set up a server with a custom zone (orange border, players die if they cross the border) where everything happens only within that zone (spawning, airdrops etc.). I had a server with a map size of 6 sectors, it was populated and there was a lot of interaction even with 20 players (which is an equivalent of 83 players on a full map) but players eventually left after a while. My server wasn't the only small map server and from my observation not one small map server was able to hold a player base for a longer time.

@@PathfinderPlays the game is already difficult enough. It is nearly impossible to survive for a solo player or small team, due to the extreme difficulty, abusive server admins, abd experienced clans armed to the teeth bullying everyone. Zombies are inmortal for someone new who does not even have the resources to stop bleeding, etc. 3 friends of mine, and myself gave it a try about one year ago, and we gave up. The game was full of cheaters, in 2 weeks I never managed to use a firearm. If I found a magazine or ammunition the three elements never matched. The game should allow free server hosting for small teams, and be highly customizable in terms of difficulty for survival, healing, enemies skills, etc, base building rules , etc. Otherwise the game will never keep the interest of many solo players nor small clans. We are not willing to pay monthly to have an unplayable game hosted by third parties / game publishers. It is a pity because SCUM could be an amazing game otherwise.

100% agree on all points that you've made. Scum may be in the best place it's been, but it's still not a very good place. I'll be absolutely shocked if Gamepires can pull this cluster frak into a cohesive, engaging, fairly bug free gem that it has/had the potential to be. I'm not convinced Gamepires is packing the technical skill to pull it off and some of their decisions are highly questionable such as the hunting and other points you've made. Not to mention it looks like DayZ w/ some mods, Rust, and Generation Zero thrown into a blender set to puree with the lid off. Wrap all this up into one package and it's exactly why I stopped bothering with it two months ago. Based on the current state of the game, if the devs don't have some pleasant surprises and aces up their sleeves by the time it goes to full release, I'm gonna have to write a scathing review and clear some SSD space. I'm not diggin' where I see it going and can only hope I'm wrong and didn't waste the money. Time will tell...clearly a LOT of time...lol.

Wow. Just watched 100 SCUM tips, & now this. Absolutely love the quality of your vids and style & also 200% agree with all of your points. So glad you are talking about this & making a noise about it. I always considered becoming a content creator for SCUM to literally do everything you've been doing, & now I would rather not and just throw in my cents in supporting you & your channel since it achieves the purpose. Regarding the state of SCUM, you've nailed it on the head on literally every point. Just a few things to add & expand: Progression needs to be looked at in it's entirety. Bicycles should be far easier to come by and something to work towards in your first few evenings of SCUM. As a bridge towards bikes and eventually a car. The same with boats and paddle boards. They should be really common to offer alternative travelling options. While they in the game, it feels like they not even necessary. Also they need to lean into the lore and TV show aspect of the game even more. The events need a complete overhaul & something more akin to how a deathmatch on the SCUM Tv show would look like. Wild personalities with some characters dressed like clowns or something representing folks from purge etc. Could have an events interface with your "event outfit" that you customize and use instead of generic military gear. Could have a special event that happens once a SCUM day or two - that triggers regardless of anyone choosing it with a worthwhile cash prize for top 3 spots. Otherwise the biggest pain point is of course the lack of player interaction. Population would definitely help with this. Though I think they need to add damaging loot from shooting to encourage players negotiating or holding each other hostage for robbery to get the loot undamaged. Finally dynamic missions would be ultimate as well for funneling players into each other, something similar to Tarkov or even Wasteland servers from Arma 3. Also them re-adding animals into the world and fleshing it out with other AI would just make exploring the huge empty map more exciting and engaging from hour to hour.

I appreciate the kind words and your thorough response to the video. I agree with a lot of what you laid out, for sure. Lots of people get very territorial about their favorite games, Scum isn't an exception and many people find it difficult to take a step back from what they enjoy and look at what needs to be implemented past that, but you don't have that issue. If you got the time, I'd still encourage you to start up a channel, good hobby if nothing else lol

great video - love the talk about the base how its needs to be balanced with raids i agree. we also need AI to be better for regular puppets. id like to see their path finding upgraded and even audio overhaul. would also be nice to have them not just aimlessly run and continue to run into walls the entire time. id like to see them busting through windows or even have a group break down wooden doors overtime for example = if enough puppets are built up around a door it would allow them to break the hindge of the door, also in traders npc life interactions within the trader zones. would love to see npcs doing things besides just standing there they could be having drinks at the bar someone getting a hair cut at the barber shop. would be nice to have them interacting with eachother in town and talking about the lore with eachother. also players could create their own lore on a server just by leaving notes with a pen and paper that we alaways see in game. imagine some telling their own story and leaving notes kinda like we read in RE - sorry for my typos.

with puppets busting through windows this could be random at night - they already implemented the mini game with the new enemy npcs where u press F - if a puppet could randomly do that through windows and shatter through the glass - we could get some jump scares going when we least expect it ! amping up the fear for players

Unless rubber banding on high pop is fixed (not sure if it is, it stopped me playing) pvp enjoyers will not enjoy the gunfights at all and alot of people don't play stuff like this for pve. Also you have to have a team in this game unless you live in a box, bases take days to get great and rpgs make quick use of most of it

Biggest problem is optimization. People and zombies tend to warp, beeing invisible etc so the pvp is absolutely horrible. They really, really neex to fix this before 1.0.

they just need now to slow the numerical increments. like hotfixes as 9.001 bigger updates as 9.01 etc. gives them still 100 major updates if they need it. lol

About the player interactions i think that joining a server controlled faction is the way to go. Stuff like faction community goals, hubs, flags and areas that you should fight for. I don't really play Scum for PVP however i like when it occurs. Also the map will not expand. Unreal 4 has reached it's limit and the servers cannot handle 100 players for longer than a few days before it needs to wipe. Same with Rust they have to wipe all the time :)

@@PathfinderPlays Unfortunately they probably won't upgrade to UE5. In the latest RayKit interview Tomi said it will take a year to do cause of all the systems being written from scratch on an altered version of UE4 and they don't believe they could benefit from any of the new tech Unreal Engine 5 has since they have to port over their pipline. He also said that after 0.9 there will only be minor changes to the map and no other additions. The scene has been set for the campaign. However with the newly founded Norwegian Gamepires i could see the release of map DLC's and as far as i know they could be in pre-prodution on a sequal in UE5.

I have had SCUM since first release. Played hundreds of hours. As each patch has dropped I have enjoyed it less and less. The RUST like skins and stuff showing up now... ugh... The PTW stuff was bad enough but now we are going to have fluro coloured guns.... Im pretty close to done.

I play on RP servers where raiding is limited and KOS (outside of designated PvP zones) is frowned upon. I think right now, I'd love to see a lockpicking rework with a more unique minigame for lockpicking. Human NPC/AI would be awesome if done right. Not just having Tec1 security guarding bunkers but also having aggressive and passive prisoner NPCs too. That would spice up Single Player as well. I liked the idea of the hunting system, but I wish the occasional animal would spawn in the old way too. I gotta say it's nice not getting bum-rushed by a goat randomly. Game devs do seem to be making progress with the game overall while backtracking in other areas. 5 steps forward, 2 steps left, 3 steps back. I want to see this game thrive because it has so much potential.

I feel making people more aware of the original Lore would help, as you said we are all prisoners that are rebelling against tec1 and the rich 1%. I can say for certain that a lot of players dont even know you can tie another players hands in scum, this like dayz would cause some hold ups, interactions that are not always necessarily good but they can be and can turn out great. I've played scum for years now and moved away from dayz, other than the player interaction I prefer scum. With 0.9 as you know know we have some form of AI with intended human AI at some point between now and 1.0. It would be great to see all these things listed in scum before a 1.0 release, who knows they may already have been working on them. Hunting i can do and dont have issues with doing but i understand the point of the animals not free roaming the map also. In terms of map size i feel once more PvE stuff like, mission, human AI etc come in it'll justify the size a bit more, i do feel however as you said we need a good 100-120 players per server/map for that random encounter chance to go up. great video btw, ive seen a lot of people leaving scum as of the dial lock as you said but i cant agree more with the points you made around BB. I feel a lot of players have got stuck in the ease of scum and looting/raiding when in reality it should've never been that simple.

I really appreciate this thorough response bud, it's so great and I agree with everything you said. The biggest thing is the player count and the lack of Npc's, factions, and all that for me. If they add sufficient amouts of that and missions, player interactions will be a non issue

First of all we need a inventory rework which they are already working on.. we need enemy AI human type which can use guns against us... we need the tribe people which have Bows spears daggers or any weapon that suits them the most.. other than that all vehicles need to come back including airplanes and the crafted small rafts.. other than these things there should be some type of events happening that would benefit players and they could interact with each other with ways other than kill on sight.. and yes hunting currently feels a bit off like playing scooby doo trying to solve a murder mystery.. there used to be birds flying around but now it's just empty sky.. raiding is not something that should be encouraged so much because that person that just got raided chances are he will leave the server and never come back so I totally agree with having your most important loot on a spot that they cannot raid so yes I agree with things you said and I would also like to see them make every skill more unique I do enjoy scum as well but in it's current state it has so much missing

I hear a lot of complaints about the hunting system, and to some extent I get it. But considering the hunting system helped improve server stability. And it’s not the worst thing, to me it’s ok.

Think the biggest problem with SCUM as far as player interaction is the map size: player ratio is way too off. If the map was smaller you could get away with the SCUM new spawn system and still have plenty of interactions just fine. Don't need the DayZ coast spawn deal if they reduced the map or somehow got the servers able to handle higher player counts!

i think they should have put energy in to npc rather than mutated zombie characters we have enough of these games but nobody has really pushed a good npc survival game. But my fav time on scum was during 2019 and 2020 game has fallen since then. Devs have to be careful as if they fail a big support in there game most wont go on to buy what ever they do next .

The most important thing is server optimization, we dont need more enemys or new bunkers, i prefer playin in x2 and is not normal that it has to restart every 2 hours and still get dsinc or late server response each time i open a box or a rock appear.

Developers just need to release the game so that source code is available so the game can be modded. As we have seen with Dayz, community modded servers are much better than official or vanilla servers. Modded code can be created to fix issues that clearly need to be addressed. At this point in time I think it's going to be up to the community to take this game where it was intended to go.

I disagree , because DayZ modded servers are not survival , it's just pvp , all mods are just 500+ weapons +600 Military Gears and the most important , TRADERS , they broke the game cause you get everything so easily

Hey pathfinder good video, as far as dial locks go i've played day z and nobody seems to have an issue with dial locks in that game, as a player i liked to make my base as secure as possible, so boohoo the raiders will have to deal with it or use c4. dial locks can be found in military pois. Now for talking i find the reverse is true for me. Yes agree cool down time for respawn at base. Hunting game ya sucks i've tried to hunt but have yet to be able to find any tracks or signs. My squad was more pissed about vehicles being taken out because of the modular system. So yes still a fan of the game wish they would remove the walls and use the whole island.

There are still massive FPS drops, server stability, very glitchy areas. I stay away from big cities because my FPS tanks. I dont know... I dont see them doing it.

Nah, my problem with scum are buttnaked sprint bhop jumping scumbags with a crafted .50 without any loot fear running into me shooting my head up and stashing it in the nearest bush without even using it further on. Someone spends huge time looting up, immersed wearing the high end loot checking corners, while someone wears .50 5 bullets and shift+w around killing ppl up jamming to Taylor swift man that should be balanced smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

I do wish they'd tune the running/jumping. Right now at full sprint you can jump as if you're on the moon and was a long jumper all your life. It's ridiculous that the characters can jump so high and far at the moment.

I enjoy myself being all the time immersed while carrying loot on me, ak, sniper, great clothes and so on, while someone enjoys running relaxed shooting up people with nothing to lose… That devalues the looting at this point, because, in Dayz I mainly encounter the same immersed enemy having a fear as me for his loot in PVP which makes the progress of an encounter more enjoyable and tenses it, as well there is a taste in not giving your loot plus trying to get something valuable of the player, while here, there are so many of these kangaroos ruining all the experience and vibe of the game, just running around like sonics no clothes just .50 hunting others down… That’s silly. Doesn’t scum suppose to be grindy and slow?😕

I totally agree with your points. I play DayZ instead of SCUM because of the lacking player interaction, the terrible hunting system, and the focus on Traders/bases instead of traditional looting. DayZ somehow just has a way better atmosphere too. I also think having a skill system and being able to level it up is a big turn off for me.

Server stability is ass, it NEEDS to be adressed. Player count also NEEDS to be raised, you run so rarely into a player that u think u are playing offline after 2 hours. Then suddenly a player appears campin in a bunker.. only to shoot u in the head and ruin 2 hours of progress youve made. its frustrating and annoying.. and i also think that building needs to be at least some what faster, as a solo i dont want to sit there and cut down trees all day long just to have a 2x2 wood shelter at the end..

I do not get the Dial Lock argument. The longest time it can take to get through a dial lock is 16 minutes and 33 seconds, in which case you would have to get every combination wrong before the last one is the correct one (do the math). Many people have tested and found that the average time it takes to get through a Dial Lock is 3 minutes 23 seconds. I also tested this, 5 dial locks quickest time 1:05 slowest 9:42 the average time for all 5 was 3:51. The second part is, not many people can pick a Gold Lock however everyone can open a Dial Lock.. Put a Dial Lock on a car and everyone one on the server can drive off with it, put a Gold Lock on and not many can.

My server you want c4... you can buy a few things from traders but not all. You absolutely have to defuse suicide zombies. Most guns are impossible to buy from traders... it's a survival game, go find them lol. People don't like talking while playing a game. A lot use discord. How strong is the server you're on? What did the admin allow and disallow. Scum has the potential to 1.0 but there are a lot of bugs needing addressed but they are more focused on bunkers. Honestly the vehicles should have been replaced before smokin hot and a lot of the minor bugs should have been fixed.

My opinion is totally different. I am a PvE only player. SCUM is getting better and better for PvE players. But still there is missing a lot of content. PvP games basically don't need any content. In my opinion a survival game with PvP makes no sense. SCUM needs much more PvE content and maybe a way bigger island to put all the content on. Then the planes will make sense again. The tournaments should be enhanced for PvP fans. Small maps with quite some action. The normal map for surviving and building. 0.9 goes in the right direction.

@@PathfinderPlays It was fairly probable back when they had complete vehicles spawning on the map. Now with vehicle carcasses all over the map, it does seem less probable. But me and a friend were by a road for a few minutes in one of the outlying sectors and we had a player come walking up with only 8 active players on the server. And, oh, back when I was adminning and planting Easter Eggs all over my server, I would OFTEN teleport to a location only to have to hide from a nearby player on a server of only 10 active. I think there is more interaction in DayZ because on Chernarus there are wide expanses of not a damn thing because the map was made for vehicular combat.

Yeah I stepped away from scum but it's because I feel like there's just too many gameplay Loops that are missing I played it ever since the day came out actually and I've got about 5,000 hours in it but it's just missing too many gameplay loops you can only repeat the same actions so many times before it becomes mine numbingly dull you have to move on to something new until they add legitimate new "real content". What I mean by real content is gameplay loops not new character customisation not new clothing not new guns or new places to loot. When they add something with substantial subsistence then I'll come back.

I've been hoping for more from SCUM but it's turning into just another dead-end 'Survival' game. Don't get me wrong, I've tried dozens and SCUM is the best by far but in the end, what's the point? For all of its 'realism' it's just another variation of a very old theme which leads nowhere - and that's where I am right now with the game. Once you're armoured, skilled, strong and kitted enough to defend you and yours... the game offers nothing beyond repetition. Without challenge you're just 'surviving'. To 'live' requires a goal. The goal may be as simple as propagation or as complex as uniting together to build a society or defeat a common enemy. The very best aspect of SCUM for me, right now, is the initial two or three hours after the initial drop... when I'm literally scrabbling to survive.

I stopped after 0.9 because I do not care about some Resident Evil stuff. I started playing a survival game which promised complex medical system. Yet there is still C1-4 system and after they removed animals.. I was done. Also spawn on sector so you die and you are within 5 minutes back in rotation. I don't care for killing players, building or raiding .. I am sorry. Still it gave me 2.8k for 40 bucks.. so it has been a good run I guess.

Don't think those are the biggest deal breakers in SCUM. Yes, the raiding system needs to be changed. Lockpicking in any form is too easy to abuse with cheats - as is being done all the time. So only explosives should be viable and the best ones should only be in high risk areas aka PvP hotspots like Bunkers, etc. as they mostly are already. But that's not the main issue with raiding. The main issue is that once you are through the door/wall, you face the same issue once more with locked storage containers, which you can't just force open (they and the stuff in it just disappear), so basically you need to spend a SHITTON of resources to get in to get nothing unless you have an expert lockpicker (and by that I do not mean someone with a high lockpicking skill, but someone who either cheats or has not had a life outside of Scum and trained nothing but lockpicking for a year). And now I hear they want to implement turrets like in Rust... yeah, then raiding will be a thing of the past for everyone for good, except for the cheaters. But I don't think that's the issue either. The main issue with Scum is the lack of risk/reward balancing. For example the Killbox is too hard for what you get. Something needs to change. Either remove the (hard) locks inside, or remove the zombies, or remove the time-limit. One of those has to go at least. The big towns (on servers which actually have zombies set to a challenging amount) are too hard for non-groups (especially since the stupid added fog) for what you can get (you can only carry so much). The bunkers face the issue that getting in and out is super dangerous because of Mechs (on servers that actually have mechs, most have turned them off), so when you realize someone is in a bunker it's better to camp the 2 exits than try to get them inside, rewarding bad gameplay. And the other installations with Mechs either are too dangerous because they have a very tight mech net and/or too many additional zombies for what you can get there. The 2nd main issue of the game imho is lack of useable space. The map is too big. No, it's not. Most of the map is not viable. The north has a trader issue. Only the central trader is up there and it's a long way from every direction to get to it. Additionally the snow is too cold. In Rust you can easily wear enough to not freeze, not possible in Scum. So unless you go hardcore, building in the snow is out of the question in Scum. The south has the opposite problem. It's too hot to be wearing armor AND there is no water anywhere. So unless you go hardcore, building in the south is out of the question. The nuclear power plant will not be visited by 95% of players because it's too hard to get a suit and survive there - and unless you manage to get uranium absolutely not worth the risk. Same goes for the new town across the river, which will not be visited by 90% of players because they can't get a suit. So basically unless you are hardcore, you need to settle in the middle part of the map and the big clans can settle in the cooler areas in the north and south, but those then use the gravel pits as camping grounds to farm noobs, because you can get gravel only at that spot. See, creating zones with necessary loot to force some interaction is not bad, but creating A SINGULAR zone where to get one item is bad game design. (Apart from the fact that those gravel packs take so much space that you NEED a vehicle - which you also need because you can't build anywhere, where you do not miss one key material for which you have to drive A LONG way. Again... risk/rewards problem.) I have 1288 hours in Scum and am currently looking at the map, thinking about where to build as a solo and I only see negatives. Then the added gold/banking system was a super bad idea. Only way to halfway save this mess would be to make all ATMs fully functional to do all the same transactions at those that you can do at the bank. Otherwise they better toss this whole thing in the bin again. And then there is a ton of just very bad QoL issues with the game. Changing your hair, changing your tattoos, way too expensive and without a preview before you pay. Who pays 70k for surgery if you don't know if you can actually make your boobs bigger than you already have? Base maintenance... just a pain in the ass to have to first produce items to be magically used up at a flag afterwards anyway. Recipes not showing how much "uses" from each item you need. A simple wall needing the equivalent of 8 complete trees to be built on highest building skill. Trees visibly respawning when you leave an area and come back, but then not existing when you want to cut them again (how can this be an issue in a game nowadays?). Not being able to permanently remove trees and bushes inside of your building area, so that bush you've built over or the tree your cut down and then built a foundation over is then forever inside your base. All these little things annoy the shit out of people.

YES YES YES. They need to balance a lot of stuff. Base raiding should be extremely difficult. AND the risk reward should be balanced. If you got critters dropping on your head in a bunker , by God the stuff in there better be priceless! But there super stingy. People just say screw this and leave. And YES the hunting in SCUM is an absolute JOKE! It needs totally reworked.

You know, in real life, what is the reason for sharks? I really enjoyed this "expose'". You nailed some things that I wholeheartedly agree with. The ONE thing that I would have removed is Traders. If we were in a world of cutthroats and malcontents, someone is going to pull the trigger on the arms guy, take all his stuff, or a lot of it, as thugs and perhaps sentries come to life and try to stop the culprit. In the meantime, the dead trader could be "dead" for weeks of game time before they're replaced. I just don't care for them, and so I don't use them at all in my "world". RIBBIT!

I honestly think one of the biggest issues that I was surprised you didn't mention is the movement. Not only does a majority of the first person movement feel like I'm playing Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, but the jumping is ridiculous for a game that prides itself on survival realism. Forward jumps of 10ft+ should not be possible in scum. It is a massive stain on the game's combat and negatively influences pvp and player interaction for obvious reasons.

I prefer dayz coastal spawns and higher tier loot is inland scum needs this on another note cities and bunkers near safe zones are best bet for player interaction. Hunting update is garbage 🗑️!!!!!!!!

In my opinion this new update isn't what we really needed. It was already hard for solo person to loot areas now it's even more nerdy and complex for solos not to mention infinite zombie and razor spawns that keep happening in abandoned bunkers, making almost the whole map abandoned bunkers wasn't a good decision. Nerdy as in do math look map do math again loot scrounge for fuse while doing math and those fuses can only be used in abandoned bunkers no where else so not much of value put in fuze and razor jumps yo ass while you do math. 😂

Yeah a Razer tracking is pretty broke lol I ran to another room and this dude snapped to me like a magnet! It's great fun with a group, but I think maybe this will encourage solos to team up, but also I think it's likely solos will just avoid and abandoned bunkers.

Map too big. Its only 1/5 it's size. This guy doesn't know much buy how to play . The map isn't that large if you actually travel. Hunting, you walking in real life, you would scare the animals. A rifle and hunting would no longer be challenging . Remember dayz also had a 5 year early access period... even rust and fortnight was 3-4 years in early access, originally they only had like 30-40 people on the development team until the studio that owns Runescape acquired them, so if anything we should see more...quicker

The point you're making starting at 6:00 is a huge problem in all my favorite open world survival craft base building games like DayZ, Conan exiles, scum, miscreated etc you name it and the problem is there in any/every game in the genre that allows player hosted servers and it's so fucking annoying. A game could have 6 million daily players and there'll be 6 million servers

@@PathfinderPlays I wish the players would do as you suggested and just cut their losses dude it's not like your server is sooo unique that it HAS to stay online buddy there's only so many settings you can change before you have 300 of the same exact server. In games with tons of mods like Conan exiles for example I get people wanting to set up a server with all the bells and whistles that they thoroughly love using to play but at the same time are you REALLY enjoying your time when you're the only person playing in your server? There's a lot of mod/settings combos in Conan exiles that make me want to play forever but I just have that set up for offline play for myself and maybe every once in a while a buddy of mine will join me but as far as playing online goes, I'm looking for the most populated server online and most of the time, the settings and mods are not exactly my favorite but it's okay to suck it up sometimes and play sociably dude. These kinds of games can be fun offline, sure. Like I love playing scum but I play it on my steam deck almost exclusively but you can't play scum online on the Deck which is fun for fuckin around, exploring the map, admin spawning shit and stuff like that but after about an hour of knowing you're not gonna be running into other players it gets SO boring. Please guys, to those of you that waste your electricity and putting unnecessary wear and tear on your PC to run your server that YOU YOURSELF barely even play on, please, for the community, DELET DAT SHIT AND COME PLAY WITH US!! think of your electric bill, think of the fossil fuels you're wasting by keeping that PC on 24/7, think of the hole in the ozone layer you're making bigger, and most importantly, THINK OF THE COMMUNITY! i still prefer to put a normal lock vs dial lock cuz if a no skill player has the time he can open that, the locks are still great and the dial lock+ bcu lock were an amazing addition, the devs are hitting th all the right buttons with every update
