It’ll be interesting to see what happens with all new tires! Of course, how they perform in a tow-off on pavement says nothing about how they’ll perform crawling offroad. Yours is probably better. In a paved tow-off having a really consistent contact patch and a VERY round foam is king. As soon as the tire folds you’re going to bounce around and lose traction. The fabric store foam is probably great for crawling, but the split in the middle of each one has got to cause some inconsistency, if even a tiny amount. But of course, supreme skill takes priority over all in straight line towing!
Can you explain what you said in the last tug-o-war video about connecting the servo directly to the battery? Are you talking about using a BEC? I’ve seen a guy do a split BEC where the steering signal stays plugged into the receiver and the power and ground from the servo go to the BEC (set to 7.4v) which is spliced into the battery leads. Is this the same as your set up?
What’s so crazy is a decade ago I came to MTB from a serious RC racing addiction.. Nitro r/c.. I probably could of had a real race car for the cash I spent on those models.. now, here we are full circle! Also spotted a Winder Towing shirt, more similarity as that’s a channel I also sub! Better luck next round Kev !
What happens if you soak them in dawn for a long time? I have been in RC and 1:1 my entire life. The pattern is one aspect of traction but the biggest is the compound and what it is doing way down where you can't see. The compound work hardens and it looks soft, sometimes even softer due to broken down foams, but it is very hard and doesn't grab the micro surface. Dawn will sort of re-hydrate, temporarily, the compound. Anyhow. I'll bet brand new tires with cut foams in the front only and torque adjusted sway bars is the best you'd get out of stock. Fun stuff.
Cutting the tires was a bad idea for tug of war. Off paved surfaces they did great. I have moved onto the swampers personally. Did you end up getting an SCX6?
I have been running rc crawlers for like 10 years and I use beadlock Wheels with no foam or a heavily trimmed foam. You can get a lot more traction at least on rocks or mud.
I could definitely be but looking at the video I think you could take him if you stiffened the rear shocks and move most of your wait to the front of your rig. Just my opinion.
Awesome video guys. I myself have the vitavon axles with the portals. You have the treal axles on the silver jeep. Maybe the green jeep should do vitavon (if he plans to upgrade) & then we could see how alike they are then. Leave his tires stock tho
Love the competitive nature of it! Sadly part #1 felt a little bit more like Jurassic Park and Oscar attacking the Jeeps is like the f***ing T-Rex. I expected Oscar going full attack mode but he somehow kept his cool more 🤣🦖
@@SteadySpin you would have to check.More than likely a tire from another truck will fit. They make tires that fit different cars it's more the size of the tire. You could fit a tire that's a little larger. My x Maxx tires fit on the losing dbxl and the fit my losi gas truck. As long as the tire fits on the axel and it's not to large it will work. Plus your not racing the truck at top speeds.
PLEASE! if you can get dual stage foams please please try it! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! just make shure you pick your tires first so you know they will fit.
I have got lots of compliments on my builds and performance from the creator of the scx6. What some may not know is a truck built for tug of war is not a good Cralwer. Always open to a challenger if you ever come through Asheville. 1/6 or 1/10 I got money to bet.
I think you should put the stock tires in the rear and try again no other mods. The idea is they will be firm enough to press the vehicle weight to the ground mostly in the rear for more traction in those 2 tires
I been into rc things since I was 13. I have rc crawlers the og Tamiya bruiser and a clone. I have a gmade one and axial I even have my two rc I built back in 1987
Pulling from the bumper means suspension and bodies are a factor. Try pulling from the axles and low center of gravity might win over the other short comings.
No. A higher attachment point gives better traction and lifts competition. When your cut tires drop axle that's when you lose traction. Let Seth attach lower to his axle.
Just like the big ones it's all about 2 things, torque and traction. Since your tires squat so much offer to do this off road, you may have better traction. If torque is equal, then it's definitely the tires.
Tire conditioner. Someone mentioned WD40 but Simple Green is another option. Some do a combination of the two. It’s been a thing for 10+ years so you can find info online. Real trucks that pull fill their tires up with water so that might be a option as well.
Almost had him. Imo it would have been better to put the fresh tires on the back. The car squats so much that the front almost lifts of the ground and doesn't contribute as much to the pulling. The rear is firmly pressed to the ground and would have benefitted more from the better tires. You'll get him next time!
Yes. I got new tires coming. I have switched up a lot of things for better crawling. Can’t wait to get on the dirt and compare. I wonder how many tries it’s gonna take to beat him.
Seth will win everytime as he has 1.5 pounds of waight on you cause he still has the roof on. You cut your off to expose cage and therefore you made your crawler lighter. You need more waight.
I know it sounds strange but I heard that if you spray WD40 on the rubber and let it dry, this will effectively change the durometer and soften the rubber. Also look at the trucks weight distribution, more weight forward could help. Maybe will help with traction. I just sub'd to see the outcome......
@@SteadySpin i hear ya, im just curious to see if the tires make the difference. One has to think the weight would be the help, but doesn’t appear at to be. But if you guys swapped tires than you would at least know. Who knew this would be so entertaining Can’t wait for round 3
Cut tires are only good for crawling I’d say. Looks like the rear is folding too much and the front isn’t folding enough. Looking forward to the next episode more rc stuff plzzz
RC and MTB!!! both my favourite hobbies! glad you caught up in the RC world!!! been introduced at an early age though crawlers might not be where i started. i had buggies and 4wd drifting!!! way to go kevin!!! keep being awesome!
