Scully's first season in 1950, Connie Mack was still managing, and Mack was born during the Civil War...

When Vin Scully speaks, we listen. The greatest voice to ever grace an MLB microphone, bar none.

"And there he was. The way you imagine him. Babe Ruth". Marvelous.

I'm jealous of those baseball fans who grew up in southern CA and had the privilege to listen to Vin announce games and tell stories like that for decades.

It was great! I’m 27 so I spent a good portion of my life hearing Scully broadcast Dodger games. I heard him 10 years of my life. 2006-2016. Not long at all. I wish I could have listened to more like my uncle and grandpa.

I moved to San Diego over 20 years ago. Although I never cared for the Dodgers, I would turn on the Dodger game while driving just to hear Vin Scully. Vin was the best story teller and I would listen to every word about Babe Ruth or the current utility player. He was so skilled and so charming.

When you hear one of these Vin Scully stories, after it's over, you want to hear another one. You're thinking "tell me another story, Grandpa Vin!" But he won't be telling any new stories any more. Fortunately, we have videos and recordings, a story we missed the first time, another that faded with time. And in that respect, at least Grandpa Vin will still be around to tell us another story.

It's such a shame that guy's like the great Vin Scully have been replaced with two or three knuckleheads in the booth, a couple on the field, and a room full of jokers back in the studio who think that they are the attraction and not the game.
@MikeBlitzMag
@MikeBlitzMag 4 года назад
Thankfully, those stories will hopefully continue for a season. As of mid-2020, Vin has taken to social media and is telling his tales again to an audience that never wanted to let go of him in the first place.

vin is the best, he was born in 1927 so this would have been the babe 5 years removed from the game. it's a shame the babe died so young, 53.

Amazing what he's saying. "there were no lights" I mean you had a guy involved in modern day baseball who still remembers when Yankee Stadium had no lights! Vin also (believe this was late 90s) has told a story about going to Yankee Stadium as a 7 year old and Ruth hitting a home run. He was likely the last person who worked in MLB in any capacity who had witnessed Babe Ruth hitting a home run

He is so right. Baseball players have the worst autographs on balls. Very few actually take the time to write legibly.

The last time the Dodgers won the World Series was in 1988. They haven't been in one since. Being born and raised in L.A. county as a Dodgers fan, that kinda sucks. P.S. They've won 6 and lost 12.

''How many times have the Dodgers been to the World Series? The Dodgers have won the National League pennant 23 times since beginning as the Brooklyn Atlantics in 1884 - nearly 20 years before the first World Series was played. The franchise has played in the World Series 19 times - twice as the Brooklyn Robins, seven times as the Brooklyn Dodgers and 10 times as the Los Angeles Dodgers. Before the modern World Series began in 1903, Brooklyn teams won the pennant in 1890, 1899 and 1900. The 1890 Brooklyn Bridegrooms faced off against the American Association champion Louisville Colonels, with the series strangely ending in a 3-3-1 tie''

I can't believe Fox didn't let Scully be part of the World Series as his last broadcast. Joe Buck is just there for his name-he's certainly not his dad. (does not apply to Thom Brennaman). The best there is, was, or ever will be--Vin Scully!
