Step behind the scenes of our SE factory in Surabaya, Indonesia to see the meticulous approach taken in creating our SE family of instruments. www.prsguitars...
bought an SE Custom 22 and it's perfect right out of the bag.. thank you for developing the SE line. I hope one day i'll be able to get a Maryland made Custom.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Had problems with the electronics. I'd switch to the neck pick up with distortion on, and it was like switching to a clean channel. That being said, I sent it back, they gave me a new one. The guitar is great. It's so clean and sharp looking. It plays awesome, and sounds great. I did a few upgrades. Changed pick ups, bone nut installed, PRS locking tuners and its perfect. It's really quality. It doesn't feel like an affordable guitar. I've been playing it like crazy. So glad I bought it.
Martin Spruce are you positive? I ask because that looks like the Cort factory in Indonesia. Guitarist magazine also stated that the US-market PRS SE line is made by Cort. I also didn’t think PRS was selling enough guitars to warrant an exclusive factory just for one product line. That would be highly unusual for an overseas-made guitar. Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting the SE guitars are substandard in any way. Wherever they’re made I’m sure they’re very high quality instruments.
Hi Greg - the facility you see in this video produces the PRS SE Series guitars only. This is the first time that the PRS SE Series has had its own dedicated facility and we are very excited for the future of this line. -Jack
Indonesians take pride in their work. I have a Standard 24 USA (2003) and recently purchased a Custom SE (Indonesia). I replaced the tuners with PRS locking tuners and swapped the stock pickups with Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups. Now the SE sounds and plays just as good as the US model. $800 for the guitar, $100 for the pickups and $100 for the tuners. My frugality paid off. Much respect for the PRS operation in Indonesia.
Alhamdulillah, I want to say thanks to PRS helping my country to increase prosperity although I'm not PRS fan. That's my motivation, I have plan to open musicshop soon in the future.
Its jaw dropping to see how much hand work and state of the art tools are used on these $700 guitars. I had no idea that SE's are truly a handmade guitar, that just so happens to be made in Indonesia!
Even more amazing, I've got a Standard a couple of months ago, tested it in store after trying out for quite a while a custom and the quality standards and materials are just on par, and it's a sub-$500 guitar! It's really fascinating to see the dedication and craftsmanship that goes to make a guitar, mainly a quality affordable one.
Saya gitaris tapi bukan penggemar gitar PRS tapi jujur saja, entah mengapa menonton Video ini membuat saya bangga bahwa Brand sebesar PRS mempercayakan (sebagian) produksinya di Indonesia. Lalu melihat pegawai pabriknya, saya mendoakan mudah-mudahan perusahaan berlaku adil terhadap hak-hak para pegawainya. Terima kasih atas Kontribusi Tak Terlihat-nya ya, Mas-mas dan Mbak-mbak semua. Semoga sehat selalu sekeluarga, rezekinya dicukupkan dan diberkahkan. Aamiin 🙏
I was a person who didn't care about PRS guitar for years. I just knew it as a guitar which has bird inlay. One day, one store near my place had PRS CE24 in stock. I was curious and tried it once. Something inside my mind said this is a nice guitar. I think I fell in love with PRS that day. So, I learnt more and more about PRS thought youtube video. I also agree with a few of PRS philosophy such as guitar has to look good and writing the name of the overseas company overseas which produces PRS guitar. The last video that I like from PRS is when PRS invites youtuber to their factory and allow them to ask anything about PRS and put it in video. I watch Tone King and Philips McKnight video of it. This video makes me respect PRS even more. Basically this video is an advertisement about how good the process of making PRS SE. But, PRS makes it not as advertisement. They openly explain the factory, the process, and the different between USA made vs Indonesia made guitar. PRS isn't afraid of being honest to their potential customer.
Rendy Andrian I feel that man! I had a squire Telecaster and I seen someone playing a PRS on Instagram and I was searching for an affordable left handed guitar and it jsut happened the same day the SE 24 lefty had dropped and I got the whale blue ❤️❤️❤️
Taylor Guitars is the same way and that is why Taylor gets my business when it comes to acoustic and PRS gets my business when it comes to electric. If I want a fender style guitar I build my own. Their QC at Fender leaves a lot to desire. When a Squier plays better than a Fender… somethings not right.
The fact that PRS made this video available says a lot about what kind of product they are trying to produce. They are not trying to lie or get around the facts. They are basically saying...."HERE IT IS....and We Stand By Our Methods"......seems pretty straight forward to me.....and I appreciate it as someone who is gonna go buy one of these models this week......(I gotta get the blue one!)
No I have no idea. I think the point was being made that simply putting a signage on the product isn't really an example of seriously honoring workers. I'd hope that factory is an example of good labor standards and good wages and fair practices. But it's quite shallow to write someone off as a SJW for being concerned about these things. Idk how much more serious and important of a discussion you could have if you're talking about if economic and labor justice.
They do an amazing job in Indonesia!! every SE I have ever played right out of the box is perfect!!! I wish I could fly out there and high five everyone.
You will be more amazed if you have a visit to the villages around the factory in Mojokerto - East Java.. there are a lot of guitar workshop with top quality craftsmanship, you can even order custom guitar with your own design and costs about 300$
Not only does PRS make great instruments, their customer service is top notch! For what it’s worth - I purchased a S2 singlecut while I was sedated on hydrocodone through spinal injections. The guitar sounded great and was light weight at 8Lbs. The body was very comfortable, the simple bridge felt good and the guitar stayed in tune. I was having dexterity problems with my chording hand but I thought that was due to the narcotics in my system. I bought it and the next day when the meds wore off I realized the neck was thick and that was why My chording hand was having difficulties it wasn’t the meds. I could not get used to the neck but I loved everything else about the guitar. For 2 1/2 yrs I tried to get used to it and struggled with the idea of selling it. Finally I decided to see if PRS could recarve the neck to their pattern thin profile. They said yep they could. I sent it to them and got it back on the same day I originally purchased it 3 yrs earlier. They fulfilled all they said they would do. The time frame they quoted me and the price was as quoted. The guitar looked brand new as they even got rid of blemishes I put on it. It plays, sounds and feels amazing. What makes this guitar even more special is the fact that it was born then born again on the exact same day 3 years later. I have since gotten rid of all my other guitars. I simply had no need for them because this S2 is perfect. PRS skills and customer service is top notch. I have nothing but respect for this guys. They are Masters of building guitars. Thanks guys for your dedication and honesty.
I do not believe for one damn second that PRS will take a production guitar back, take the neck off, strip the finish and recarve and refinish it for anyone. No damn way this happened.
Nothing like a little transparency to underscore product quality. I'm lucky enough to own a USA-made and an SE PRS, and I have to say the SE (Santana gold) is absolutely flawless. Thanks, Paul, for your attention to detail...
Just bought an SE Standard a few days ago. My first PRS. I'm very very pleased with this instrument. Proud owner, this video was fascinating and truly make me appreciate my guitar much more,
I love my Lefty 2018 SE Custom 24, tobacco sunburst, made in Indonesia! ❤️ I got my tan gig bag signed by Paul Reed Smith at a local guitar show in May this year!!!
I got a prs se standard 24 yesterday... BEST GUITAR EVER! Great job in building such a great company and great guitars! It's really hard to believe that my new guitar was made in that factory!!!
Been playing guitar since 1980 (last 20 years making a living from it). Bought my SE Standard 24 in November 2018. In February 2019 it became my #1 and still is. I owe high-end F-Strats, Gretsches and Ibanez‘s.... they‘re collecting dust since then... SE‘s are great and highly recommendable, especially after watching this vid. Thank you PRS for this wonderful instrument and a big thank you to the crew at the Indonesian factory for building my Red Beauty!
I've been a PRS customer since 2002 with the purchase of the Tremonti SE. I have since then owned several SE's and American ones, and I just can't find myself playing another brand. These guitars is on another level in terms of looks, sound and most importantly; playability. If it weren't for PRS Guitars, I don't think I would have kept on playing guitar for as long as I have, and for that I'm thankful!
@Odell Mateo I never said that I wouldn't play as good with another brand. What I cherish the most in a PRS is the playability, they feel so damn amazing to play. I prefer the older pickups, the HFS, Tremonti for example, that modern tone with more bite. I'm just glad I found "my guitar company" so to say, it's what I'm used to and it fits my style.
@@wataboutya9310 I have wanted to buy one of these but have passed for others..now I want the Paul guitar in the Blue but wondering if the fretboards are really wide, even the 6 strings ? I have played a bolt on USA PRS years ago but have read that they have pretty wide fretboards..I haven't seen many in the stores I have been to so looking for an answer here..I love the way they look for sure.

Saya malah sedih, kenapa mereka disini... Gaji tenaga kerja kita murah, Bahan baku kayu sebagian dari lokal dan didapat murah... Mereka jualnya mahal.... Kita dimanfaatkan, sekalipun saling menguntungkan sih, tapi mereka jelas lebih untung... Saya mendukung luthier lokal saja,..
PRS Guitars it's all about budget..! because resources to build that guitar in original countries is too high.., then start to outsource it to outside the original countries, that is strategi ofmarketing
I just bought a SE Custom 24, It is absolutely amazing! I own several high end Maryland made PRS’s and the SE plays just as beautifully! Thanks for the video tour! You can see that all those guitar technicians overseas really care about the quality of those guitars!
Bought a Korean made SE roasted maple neck for gigging, loved it so much that I only use it the studio, one of the best guitars I've ever owned. Thanks Paul and the prs team in Korea
This is a fascinating video showing how guitars are made. I love the marriage of the natural beauty of the wood combined with the highly skilled and artistic craftsmanship of the workers forging it into a beautiful musical instrument.
Big G talks about how everyone else must not copy them and will be punished. PRS talks about how much they like guitars and their craft, and show how they ensure every single one is as close to perfect as possible. …pretty easy to decide who you'd better buy from! ❤️ PRS!
I would have never considered an SE until I saw this video. Now I want one. I’ve owned several USA models and assumed these were just cheap ones that only looked the part. I was wrong. Bravo PRS 👏🏼👏🏼
I bought a PRS SE Custom 24-08 Eriza Green last Friday and I am beyond impress on how immaculate it feels, plays, and looks. When you hear that a guitar is made overseas, it’s normally frowned upon, but I am very glad I made the choice. Your transparency and tour of the Indonesian factory just further lives up to it’s name how PRS keeps up with it’s quality standards. Thank you 🙏🏼 for not cutting corners.
To me, PRS are my favourite guitars and I was introduced to them watching and listening to Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells 2 video very early in 1992. Now I have 4 PRS SE guitars ( Custom 24, Standard 24, Santana Model and 245 ), and all of them are truly awesome instruments, and now I'm waiting for the SE Paul's Guitar arrive here in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I believe the difference in quality between an American PRS and an SE must be of almost no significance for most highly demanding players, just like me. One thousand thanks for this wonderful video ! All the best from Rio de Janeiro !
Massive props to prs for showing the processes behind their cheaper guitars, they're incredible instruments and the transparency is very much appreciated!
I just bought a prs se tremonti yesterday. What an amazing piece you guys put out. I think I've spent more time admiring the beauty of this guitar than I have playing it.
I got my SE Standard in February and all those little things you mention were why. The neck felt better than anything else in the price range, the frets were dressed better and the whole thing just felt more premium. One day I would like to try a Core 24 but my SE Standard is great.
its made in the same factory that numerous other import guitars are built at the same quality level but much higher price, its the job of the retailer to finish and set up a guitar so that is up to where you purchase your guitar.
Thank you, PRS for this video production. It clearly shows that PRS is doing what it has to do to remain competitive in a Global Market. The amount of individual attention to detail is evident in the tour. Congratulations !
A company being proud to show their "budget" line manufacturing process in so much detail says a lot by itself. Add that the fact that they leave these videos open for comments and I'm sold. I've played countless guitars but I had never had the chance, nor the interest really to give a PRS a try. Yesterday I tried an S2 C22 and it was so comfortable, it took me a few moments to realize that it's in fact not my own guitar that I'm used to playing for years. The radius, the scale, the fretboard, the damn thing was perfect! It just felt like home! Can't wait to get my hands on a Core Custom24. Keep it up!
The SE line has come a long way. I have a 2008 SE single cut that is awesome. Over time they’ve added cosmetic features that make it look close to a USA version. I’ve owned Epiphone and Squire but the PRS SE line, in my opinion, offers the best quality for non USA guitars. I have a Tremonti Custom on the way. Very excited knowing how well these instruments are built.
My Tobacco Sunburst SE 245 was made at Core-Tek and it’s just fabulous. The veneer is so rich and flamey that I’ve had guys that own core models do a double take to make sure that it’s an SE because it looks so amazing. I’m very happy and proud to own it. Cheers!
I started studying lutherie this september and this video is Truly inspirational. Everything from the tonewoods to the production methods inspire me, whenever i need a Pep up i remind myself that makers like PRS exist and it helps me to learn more about everything about the Quality and value of the guitars.
One thing I’ve seen about Paul watching him over the years is this dude cares about the wood he buys I’ve had a USA made and an Indonesian made and they are both high quality!
The MIA is the expensive copy! Too much marketing all around! Congrats to Indonesia to have such wonderful work and without stealing the people's money. 💪😎🎸
Its nice to see all this guitars being made with such care. It feels when you play the instrument. Indonesia makes great guitars, good and hard working people. Thank you!
I picked up a nice Tremonti SE a few years ago and it's a very nice guitar. I knew it was quality when I picked up, looked it over and especially after looking at the electronics cavity. Very neat and professional wiring.
My Indonesian SE quality is top notch. It was awesome to see you guys so open about your overseas factory. That’s flat out amazing and builds brand loyalty.
I'm a very happy PRS 509 owner and all I can say is this makes me respect the company even more. It's clear that both the company and the people building these instruments are focused on quality.
Wow, I alwys new the SEs were great guitars for the price point, but I'm really impressed to see this kind of attention to detail at their production factory. Great video! Thanks PRS!
Andika Priadiputra Indonesia is a great.. great nations..! theLuthiers & the guitarmakers are one of the best in around the globe..! Proud to Indonesia..!
I have a US made core PRS and it is, hands down, the best guitar I have ever owned. Just bought the new SE semi hollow custom (2021 model) a couple of weeks ago and I am still shocked at the quality. It is so so good for the price.
Same for me. I bought an SE Custom 24 Stealth a couple of months ago. Not touched any of my other guitars since, and I have 11 guitars. The fretwork was the first thing that blew me away also.
It’s incredible the amount of work and detail that goes into making one guitar. On the other end, you have the skilled guitar player that really needs to know how to play that guitar to reach its full potential of usability. This is music appreciation
I’ve been in the market for a new guitar quite a while now and set myself a limit of 1000€. It’s „just a hobby“ for me and I have financial responsibilities as a father of two. That being said , a PRS custom SE Floyd Rose 2021 was the choice. Videos like this may lack entertainment for some, but it is exactly what reassures buyers. Great guitars and great company. Thanks!
Just brought an SE Standard in Satin Black today. I'm blown away by the quality and finish. It's the first guitar I've owned that I love. PRS you have a customer for life even more so after watching this video.
@Kenny H All of Gibson's products are SHIT. When I was 16 years old, I saved up my money for a brand new Gibson Les Paul Custom. Let me tell you, it took a while considering my first job was working at McDonalds. Looking at it you could tell the workman-ship was shit. I noticed this on every Gibson at the stores and still to this day it's the same way. I sold it less than 3 years later because almost all other major guitar producers; guitars like High end PRS, Ibanez j customs, ESP, etc build great products. Go look at a 4,000 dollar PRS, 4,000 dollar Ibanez j custom, 4,000 dollar ESP, or a 4,000 dollar Shur. They are all perfect. Yes, the guitars that I stated at that price point are 100% handmade. :P I mean everything about them is 100% perfect. Gibson's guitars looks like my 3 year old daughter done the work, really that is not over-stated.
Kenny H I was a Gibson fan for ever and not a fan of prs. I went through 4 les Paul’s with issues before giving up. They have horrible quality control. I have never picked up a prs that wasn’t right. The prs 594 is just a fantastic guitar.
My first PRS SE arrived 2 days ago, I am very impressed how comfortable and easy it is to play..the neck feels great, the frets too, I like the coil split sounds, the tremolo is smooth, and the guitar looks amazing overall
I bought my first PRS Guitar 2 Months ago, it was a SE P20 Parlor Acoustic. I was so excited of the flawless quality that i bought a SE Starla some time later. The same fantastic quality and both guitars have a great sound. The playability is wonderful. I play guitar since 1978 and had tons of guitars, but the PRS guitars are the best i've ever owned. Thank you PRS! Greets from Germany
I really admire PRS for consistently innovating as well as cramming the most value into all instruments at any given price point. A luthier in the business of making guitar - to me that's the most "authentic", unlike other manufacturers who are still relying on many years of star power and other PR assets while pushing out subpar products.
I’ve had all kinds of guitars roll through my shop....fenders, gibsons, epiphones, squiers, prs of all kinds, martins, parkers, the works... The only imports that *consistently* stand up to their USA brethren, on an almost individual basis, are the SE Paul Reed Smiths. Yes, there are good epis, there are some AMAZING squiers out there nowadays. But their cost cutting compromises are always apparent...hardware, electronics, tolerances, finishing, etc. I’ve been playing core line Paul Reed Smiths for almost 20 years. My “number one” is an ‘02 custom 24 that I know more intimately than I know myself. The SE models still *feel* like Paul Reed Smiths to me. I don’t compare a client SE to my custom 24 during a setup and go “well, thank god this isn’t my guitar”. I’m happy that a non-pro has easy access to a comparable instrument. No other guitar manufacturer has taken advantage of our advances in guitar manufacturing quite like PRS.
Just placed an order, there are many Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines.. that can and do produce phenomenal work. They have millions of highly skilled people who are ready willing and able given the chance. Props to PRS for recognition and utilization of this.
Just picked up an PRS SE. Guy gave me a deal on it I couldn’t pass up. I have to say I am impressed. I got an instrument that plays increasingly well and had an extremely reasonable price. Absolutely outstanding build quality. Great job! I’ll never sell it.
Say hello from Indonesia, I really excited you placing one of your factory in my country and joint partner with one of famous brand in Indonesia such as Cort. PRS is my favorite brands specially SE series (because it's cheaper and still with best standard of PRS). Congrats and always make best guitar for Indonesia.
Literaly for Indonesian, just like me, for some reason u will always pick Ibanez for solid body guitar to buy. LP, Strat or tele style followed after it. Now one will pick PRS I guess here in Indo. I was incidentally introduced to PRS a few years ago, and to be honest it is my fav guitar, i think prs has the best neck compare to others n perfect playibility. With great sound, u may get bright, dirty, warm sound at the same time
I ordered a Lefty PRS SE Custom 24 Yesterday from Sweetwater...this video makes me even more excited to receive it. The pride and craftsmanship are apparent all throughout the process.... I say Thank you for what you do! (and for making Lefty's somewhat available)
i'm living in Surabaya and actually the guitar factory that mentioned above isn't in Surabaya. The precise location is in Mojokerto, 1 hour from Surabaya. Mojokerto itself is a city which known for a lot of independent homemade guitar luthiers, some of them are former worker of PT. Cort Indonesia that choose to build guitar in their home. Both the product of the factory and the independent luthier are modest and robust!. Cheers from Surabaya, Indonesia.
