(PART TWO OF TWO)
PILOT - DEAN (DEANO) COXON,
BUILDER - UNKNOWN,
OWNER / PILOT - (ME) PETER COXON,
THIS VIDEO HAS HAD THE AUDIO EDITED IN PLACES BECAUSE DEANO & HIS FRIEND
RILEY (AND MYSELF) WERE USING CERTAIN PROFANITIES THROUGHOUT THE VIDEO !
I BOUGHT THIS LOVELY OLD GIRL OVER 12 YRS AGO (ALREADY BUILT) FROM A LOCAL MODEL SHOP AND POPPED A BRAND NEW OS 70 FS IN HER (STILL IN THE MODEL NOW) AND RUN HER UP A COUPLE OF TIMES,
BUT LIFE GOT IN THE WAY AND SHE WAS PUT UP ON A SHELF AND FORGOTTEN ABOUT (I CARRIED ON FLYING OTHER RC MODELS)
EVERY NOW AND THEN DEAN WOULD MOAN "THAT PIECE OF SHIT IS IN MY WAY - GET RID OF IT" AS HE TRIED FITTING MORE OF HIS MODELS INTO MY SHED - LOL,
ANYWAY I DECIDED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO (FOR NO APPARENT REASON) TO REPLACE THE BEARINGS IN THE MOTOR AND GOT IT RUNNING AND THEN TEST FLEW HER LAST WEEK,
SHE IS A LOVELY VICE FREE MODEL TO FLY AND (CONTRARY TO WHAT DEAN SAID AT THE END OF THE VIDEO) THE OS 70 FS TURNING A 14 x 6 MASTER AIRSCREW PROP PULLS HER AROUND VERY WELL INC VERTICAL MANOUVRES LIKE LOOPS OR SPLIT S`s OR STALL TURNS,
SHE IS EASY TO TAKE OF AND AS EQUALLY EASY TO LAND - MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT I DIDNT FLY HER 12 YRS AGO WHEN GLOW FUEL WAS HALF THE DAMN PRICE !!!!!!!!!!

The Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 is a British biplane fighter aircraft of the First World War. It was developed at the Royal Aircraft Factory by a team consisting of Henry Folland, John Kenworthy and Major Frank Goodden.
Introduced : March 1917
Length : 6.38 m
Number of seats : 1
Designer : Henry Folland
Engine type : Hispano-Suiza 8
First flight : 22 November 1916
Manufacturers : Royal Aircraft Establishment, Wolseley Motors,
It was one of the fastest aircraft of the war, while being both stable and relatively maneuverable. According to aviation author Robert Jackson, the S.E.5 was: "the nimble fighter that has since been described as the 'Spitfire of World War One'".
In most respects the S.E.5 had superior performance to the rival Sopwith Camel, although it was less immediately responsive to the controls. Problems with its Hispano-Suiza engine, particularly the geared-output H-S 8B-powered early versions, meant that there was a chronic shortage of the type until well into 1918. Thus, while the first examples had reached the Western Front before the Camel, there were fewer squadrons equipped with the S.E.5 than with the Sopwith fighter.
Together with the Camel, the S.E.5 was instrumental in regaining allied air superiority in mid-1917 and maintaining it for the rest of the war, ensuring there was no repetition of "Bloody April" 1917 when losses in the Royal Flying Corps were much heavier than in the Luftstreitkräfte.
The S.E.5s remained in RAF service for some time following the Armistice that ended the conflict; some were transferred to various overseas military operators, while a number were also adopted by civilian operators.
S.E.5a
Only 77 original S.E.5 aircraft had been completed prior to production settling upon an improved model, designated as the S.E.5a. The initial models of the S.E.5a differed from late production examples of the S.E.5 only in the type of engine installed - a geared 200 hp Hispano-Suiza 8b, often turning a large clockwise-rotation four-bladed propeller,
replacing the 150 hp H.S. 8A model.
In total 5,265 S.E.5s were constructed by six manufacturers: Austin Motors (1,650), Air Navigation and Engineering Company (560), Curtiss (1), Martinsyde (258), the Royal Aircraft Factory (200), Vickers (2,164) and Wolseley Motors Limited (431).

Don't be too hard on Deano. When he's your age, He will be dealing with young pups with attitudes himself. Nothing like a sweet biplane to remind us why we fly. With help from Sam, I was even able to introduce a couple Minions how to fly. Jim.......ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DGyZWcdt0j4.html

It sounds so nice with the four stroke glow engine purring away! It has not too bad of a roll rate.

gotta love a fourstroke glen, yes ive set the ailerons to max travel for those fast rolls but deano was pulling off lovely four point rolls in both videos with less throw,

Just right for us "Old Boys"! Deano will come to appreciate it too when he's out of nappies! He's a bloody good flyer as a lot of sprogs are these days, even if he does fly it more like a Pitts!!!🤣

yes bob - to be young again hey ! i said to him put it through its paces to show peeps just what the model is capable of, its piss boring when its flown slow and is so maneuverable on the OS 70, i presume the real one could roll and loop and stall turn ? otherwise it would have been a very crap fighter plane 🤔
@bobi2582
@bobi2582 Год назад
@@tbobborap1 For sure the full size would have been able to do most of that after a bit of a dive. Not sure about the 4 point rolls though! Anyway, loads of fun. Keep em coming Pete.
