The Seafood City Filipino Street Food Festival, held in Houston on August 3 and 4, 2024, was a vibrant celebration of Filipino culinary traditions, showcasing the rich and diverse flavors of street food. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Filipino roast lechon, which attracted long lines of eager attendees. The lechon was perfectly cooked, with its crispy skin and tender, flavorful meat capturing the essence of traditional Filipino cooking.
In addition to the lechon, the festival featured an array of beloved Filipino street food, including kwek-kwek (quail eggs in a crispy orange batter), isaw (grilled chicken or pork intestines), kikiam and an assortment of squid balls and fish balls. Each dish was prepared with authentic recipes, transporting many back to the bustling streets of the Philippines.
The event also offered refreshing drinks like halo halo, sago’t gulaman, a sweet and chewy tapioca and jelly beverage that was the perfect antidote to the summer heat. Other popular drinks included calamansi juice and melon juice, adding to the tropical vibe of the festival.
