@@echoromeo384 - Mr Korkie was not a US citizen. South African citizens working with an NGO were negotiating for his release and the negotiated amount was going to be paid the following morning. His wife was very happy that he would come back home...In that excitement, the White House decided to storm in to rescue their citizen and in the process, the South African was killed....it was selfish and reckless, Mr Korkie's never got home alive.

I was surprised the US would allow the Yemeni establishment any information about their mission at all so I did a bit more digging about this. The official account is that the rescue force was compromised approximately 100 metres from the objective by a terrorist who was outside to relieve himself. He was alerted, mid-stream, by dogs barking at the SEAL lead element. The delay was no more than 10 minutes but during that time a terrorist was observed by a drone to enter the building the hostages were kept in, then running back out and escaping with an unknown number of fellow jihadists. Additionally, according to officials, Mr Korkie died on the Ospray during the exfil, and Mr Somers died when the aircraft was landing on USS Makin Island.

For the US Navy, yes, ST-6/DEVGRU is the premier Tier 1 unit. For the US Army, its Delta Force on par with DEVGRU, and then next to Delta, there's the Army's Intelligence Support Activity aka 'The Activity', Task Force Orange, Gray Fox......the ISA has numerous code names that get switched around. Intelligence Support Activity is regarded as the premier 'special reconnaissance' unit of the US Army, but they are classed as 'Tier 1' and stand alongside DEVGRU & Delta in the SOCOM chain.

I’ve never understood why during raids by special forces, the hostage takers don’t just kill the hostages to make the mission a failure. There always seem to be a small amount of time where SOF groups have to proceed tactically and use explosives or small gunfire to proceed to the target, which results in their immediate presence being known to the Opfor.

This happens frequently. And there's a good chance one of these guys was DOA but unreported as such If you read enough mission debriefs, you'll notice a statistically supernatural tendency for casualties to become mid-evac fatalities. That is, reports are often written to cushion the blow of fatalities, falsely suggesting a time of death "on the return trip" rather than at the incident site in some combination of denial, ass-covering, coping mechanism for those involved, and a misplaced sense of greater dignity if the casualty at least got out alive for a time.
@jeremycahill4662
@jeremycahill4662 2 года назад
"Thoughts and prayers" rhetoric aside, if the US govt is responding to your abduction and ransom with boots on the ground, that means your life isn't particularly valuable. An entire 8-man SEAL squad is worth 800k USD in death benefits payable by the US govt, total. The mistake made by ransom-takers is placing a price per head on the order of magnitude of millions rather than tens of thousands.

Not really sure why anyone from a non Arab country would travel to Yemen, Iraq, etc. It’s either pure naivety or they were working on behalf of one of their government’s agencies. In the later case I can understand mounting a rescue operation, in the former they and their families should have no expectation of being rescued.

You’ll never know about 99% of DEVGRUs ops or any Tier 1 unit for that matter. It just happens that Seal Team 6 is the most publicized. When’s the last time you heard about a Delta or SAS op? Almost never. These troops are constantly operating all over the world and you’ll never hear about 99% of it. Every unit has successes and failures.

@@tennesseecurtiss5741 That’s what I’m talking about, we’re not supposed to know even 99% of what they do, but with ST6 we always hear about their ops and people Bragg about them. But when you do some research, like this video, you see that they had a lot of failures and ik it happens, but why theirs are always leaked somehow. That’s my point, I’m not saying they r bad, they r the most elite mfs you can have alongside sas, delta and others.

Doubtful, you really think monetary gain was their only motivation, and they’d simply let them go? Had the ransom been paid on behalf of the US, that would’ve likely incentivized them further to keep them as hostages for more absurd ransom requests.
