Fellow old geezer foam sculptor here. I do a lot of foam sculptures mostly for movies. For coating medium sized sculptures we use a waterborne material called Aqua-resin. Easy to use but it ain't cheap. An easy and strong alternative is a combination of Durham's water putty and joint compound. Both work fine on urethane or styrofoam. Lovin' the channel. One more suggestion is a work apron. My crewmates make fun of me but it work great.
Besides the epoxy and 2 part urethane, you can paint on a UV cured resin for a hard coat. The advantage is that it's only 1 part so you don't have to estimate how much material you need. Paint it on then cure it with a UV light or sunlight. It's available in a wide variety of colors.

Funny you should say that you haven't been getting anything he posted for the last 8 months. I don't know what is going on with RU-vid, but I don't get notified for most of the channels that I am subscribed to. One of them is my son's, and he has 2.5 million subscribers. Its a great thing when an expert puts up a YT Ch and freely gives a lifetimes worth of advice. Doubt I will ever do any of this but its very clever and cool and I subbed so I can watch more. Then again youve given me an idea.........
A lot of tabletop mini terrain makers use xps foam but this work here to. The use modpodge and acrylic paint and that makes a good sealer it has a little tougher shell than just some of the other dentaboe sealers you showed her but not as a shell. The added paint show what you covered already and you don’t loose hardly any details

I've never gotten to carve in Urethane, but I've carved large stuff in Styrofoam (mostly brick and stone texturing for wall coverings. I was lucky enough that the carvings were sprayed with truck bed liner for coating. It goes on hot, so a little of the detail was lost, but that coating was nearly indestructible. I can't wait to carve some sculpting foam. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. PS - there's always going to be somebody who's bothered or offended about something. Let 'em complain. All they're doing is adding to the comment interaction and building on your channel metrics. Also, I'd love to see some of your older work in the casinos and restaurants. Skulls💀 I’ve never put it together as death but as art. Use them all the time in paintings, resin arts and steampunk art. Some people just aren’t up to speed. ~~Thanks for sharing your experience in foam sculpting. Hadn’t really thought about it but it looks like great fun to try.

Do you know if any of the mediums you used for coats would be inhibited by plat-cure silicone? I know it’s a bit more prone to inhibition than it’s tin cousin.
I have a quick question how can I make a foam design to resin? Is there a material that I need to cover the foam to create a mold then use the mold to use resin casting? I have a design but a foam is very breakable. I don't know how to make my foam resistance resin heat because the chemicals combine with resin A and B reaction creates heat and it seems that heat will melt the foam so I want to ask how to do it if is possible. Hi, I would like to know if you have a foam. And want to make more pieces of that foam can you do resin casting? If so, what is the technique and material to make that happen? I like resin casting because it captures a lot of details for making molds. That's the reason I have a foam because it has many details and I would like that to be transferred the details into the resin mold. Can someone help me please? Or send me a video about it?
Oh look... Spray paint doesn't melt it. I don't know why anyone said that in the last video comments. The foam is urethane. Spray paint isn't going to melt it. Probably the same person who thinks carving skulls equals the decline of society. Thanks for the follow up video Robert. I make marionettes carving the foam and coating it with urethane resin. I have used fiberglass resin before too. I think it's polyester. It works, but urethane is better.
It depends on the foam and the spray paint. If a spray paint uses enamel, it will absolutely melt Styrofoam and XPS foam. Latex, oil, and acrylic paints won't. In this video, actual primer is used on the foam and primer doesn't use the same chemicals as spray paint. Primer is explicitly made for this purpose. It seals a surface and won't cause any corrosion.
@@nekrataaliSpray primer has solvents in it and spray paint doesn't. Spray primer would be more likely to dissolve something than spray paint. The solvents are what melts. A simple google search will show you. Also, we are not talking about styrofoam are we? We are talking about urethane foam. And spray paint or spray primer will not dissolve it.
