Interesting fact about the name Sean, Seán is the Irish form of the name 'John', however outside of Ireland the accent in the name Seán tends to get left out. In the Irish language, if you leave the accent out, then is not pronounced 'Shawn' but 'Shan' (to rhyme with can), which means 'old' (it's not used as a name though).
So you're telling me that every single day for the past few centuries there have been unsuspecting Americans, Brits, Aussies or whatever who unknowingly name their newly born child *Old*? XD That's just hilarious! Thanks, Irish people!
You have misunderstood me. I am talking about how it is read and pronounced in Irish. I am Irish, so I didn't hear it anywhere as such, this is the language as I know it. Sean has no comparable phonetics in English. People only pronounce 'Shawn' because they think that is correct. It is not like leaving the accent out of María, for example. Forgive my next crude example, it is all I could think of, but there is a similar difference between ano and año in Spanish.
the world of technology is unhappy . . . the last time I watched this it was perfect . . . NOW the whole last segment has the sound out of synch? It's not even a year old? Is it the pre-ghost of Betty White?!!!
