Sean O’Malley Thinks He ‘Surprised’ Petr Yan at UFC 280 - MMA Fighting 

O’Malley vs Chito will be a huge mega fight. Potential Trilogy in the making.

I would be equally as excited for Chito or Aljo. Big stakes for both fights even without a title on the line. He's gotta eventually put that chapter to rest.

Watching the fight again closely, I think there is a bias based on how Sean was breathing heavily. Yeah, dude was tired, but if you look at how he used his limbs, they weren’t tired. He was consciously using breathing technique to oxygenate his body. He took very little damage and utilized head rolls well. It was close but i really don’t think it was a robbery.

Sean surprised absolutely everyone with that performance. I was one of his biggest doubters but he took it to Yan and didn't back down the entire time. He's the real deal.

He has a point. The moment he gets into a fight for the belt it simply has to be a ppv main event. Henry vs Aljo is nice but I only see that being a co-main to the other male divisions besides flyweight

The best thing about being number 1 now is that Malley no longer gonna get any easy fights. Switching back and forth between an ortodox and southpaw stance for both Malley and Yan was so fun to watch. A 5 round rematch would have been something...

Kind of beautiful how things all worked out for Chito. Sean's win sets things up for him since they have a history already. He could be in the number 1 contender fight or Sean could get the shot next and Chito could be right there to challenge the winner where UFC would again hope Sean can beat Aljo.

Feels like a repeat situation of Aljo vs Yan 2. Everyone thinking Yan’s gonna destroy the opponent, fight ends up being an evenly matched close fight, Yan just barely loses, everyone calls it a robbery

Imagine the UFC telling you 'You didnt have enough control time for Sterling 2, so you lost!!' This fight being told 'Sean did more damage so your control time doesn't matter!!' If i were Petr i wouldn't talk to anyone either. I would be salty and bitter chilling in a cold castle somewhere.

Sean did good, I feel for Yan though. He will have to climb at least a 3 fight win streak to get to the title again after 2 split decision losses. If he leaves and goes somewhere else, i get it. I don't think the UFC will rush him to a title again.

Aljo is the reverse Colby. Colby plays the heel character but irl he's a normal, kind dude. Aljo tries to play the babyface but every single thing he does screams heel and irl he comes across as undeservedly overconfident, like he's Usman or Izzy all of a sudden with all these title defenses. He is supremely unlikeable and was booed even in Abu Dhabi. I'd respect him more if he owned it now

How do you rate damage according to head trauma? Sean said he couldn't remember anything about the fight because he got rocked a couple of times. That's why he told DC he had to rewatch it. I think brain damage is worse than a cut.

Thought for sure Yan won until I rewatched without commentary overstating the importance of takedowns. Omalley was excellent and his ground game was surprisingly good.

I've really liked this kid from the very beginning, he has my exact body type, long and lanky. He has the timing down pat. He has the heart! He has all the tools and knows how to dissect his opponents. I am so impressed by his commitment to be the Champion. I always had that reach as he does, but, that's not all, he knows how to give the ultimate damage at the very end of a punch, to snap at the very pinnacle of contact, not many fighters have this skill, add his length and skills, the sky is the limit for this guy! Most can't comprehend how difficult it is to succeed being this body type (tall & skinny), at this level of MMA! I am blown away at his accomplishments so far, and am enjoying watching him develop even more! Petra Yan, I actually thought, was up and coming star, and Sean had bit off more than he could chew. Sean O'Malley is the whole real deal, and my hats off to him, for this particular win! I now think, Sean O'Malley is a Champion.
