Please don’t say that, I feel like y’all really don’t realize how disrespectful that is. It is not a positive thing when you say these game changing top 50 all time rappers were “underrated” it’s basically synonymous with “nobody cares about him, he isn’t a big deal in hip hop” but you think it’s a good thing Bc you’re saying he SHOULD be a big deal. I just really don’t like it it comes off like you found out who he was super late, and instead of admitting that you should’ve done research earlier, you pretend it’s hip hops fault. It’s the communities fault for not making Sean P a pop radio artist or something that you’d hear every day. He isn’t supposed to be that, and even still heltah skeltah was huge. There is not one genuine hip hop head who doesn’t know Sean or Heltah Skeltah. You’re just saying his career wasn’t that successful, he wasn’t that beloved or thought of as a great MC. You can’t say that isn’t what you’re saying, what else does underrated mean if not “under appreciated, not as successful as they should’ve been, not as respected by their peers as they should’ve been” like why would Sean or his family want that to be his legacy? He wanted to be remembered as this grimy old school dude who could snap any rapper neck, a dude who every rapper is scared of. And that WAS his legacy, so I feel like it’s very pointless to take that away from him and paint him as this poor underground rapper who has trouble making ends meet. Look at the features he’s had on every solo album, these aren’t accidents

Or, hell, if any of you guys have any other rappers or rap groups or even hip hop music to recommend. I grew up listening to NWA, Snoop, Wu Tang, Ice Cube, Jurassic 5, the Roots, public enemy, Biggie and anything else my older brother and his friends were listening to, but my music of choice was always rock and metal, even though I'd still hit up Rap/Hip Hop shows (up in smoke tour, seen the Roots tons of times). But the past few years I've really been trying out new things and getting more into rap is one of those things. I've really, really been enjoying Run the Jewels (and Killer Mike's solo shit), Kendrick Lamar, Prodigy, to name a few acts. Not really into a lot of the "mainstream" shit I hear, at least a good amount of stuff that's on the radio stations in my hometown. Still, I'm kicking myself in the ass for not being more open minded earlier in life, and missing out on a lot of fucking amazing music.
