Dr. Sean Young was raised in Salt Lake City. He attended the University of Utah, majoring in Materials Science and Engineering. He then attended the UCLA School of Dentistry. He was the recipient of numerous academic scholarships and graduated with honors, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2008. Residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery brought his family to Nashville. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine in 2011 from Vanderbilt University and completed his residency in 2014. During his training, Dr. Young has presented clinical research at national and international meetings and has two articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
"Hello, my name is Dr. Sean Young, and I’m an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Southern Oral & Facial Surgery. I joined the team in 2014 and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to practice here. When I was first introduced to dentistry, I was intrigued by the role that our face and smile have in our appearance and confidence. I was particularly drawn to the wide variety of treatments offered by oral surgeons. I enjoy helping patients find surgical solutions to their dental needs, ranging from wisdom teeth removal, to regenerating bone and replacing teeth with dental implants. From treating facial bone misalignments, to diagnosing and managing oral pathology. My education and training influence the way that I practice. My undergraduate degree is in engineering and I’m still an engineer at heart. This background has taught me to be detail-oriented, and I’m able to apply the problem solving skills I’ve learned every day in my practice. After college, I completed a dental degree at UCLA. During that time, I gained the ability to not only treat my patients’ dental needs, but to also understand the importance of providing personalized care to each and every patient. My goal is to work with you to find an optimal solution for your individual situation. In diagnosis and treatment, I place particular importance in applying current technology, such as 3-dimensional imaging and the use of advanced dental materials. I went on to earn a medical degree at Vanderbilt University and complete a residency in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center here in Nashville. This 6-year residency allowed me to train beside highly-qualified surgeons and anesthesiologists, and has provided me with the expertise necessary to deliver superior service to patients. During my training, my wife Melissa and I fell in love with the Nashville area, and we felt that there was no better place to raise our family than here in middle Tennessee. When I was introduced to Dr. Clark and presented with the opportunity to join his practice, I knew that I had found the right fit. Not only does our team share my passion for delivering exceptional surgical treatment, they also foster a caring and supportive environment in our offices.
