It made my day having a Thomas Shahan video popup in my feed. Once again, a beautiful and informative video. I went back through my iNat and I've only observed one Habronattus, H. decorum, and it was a female. I'll be on the lookout! for that stunning male. Can't wait to look for critters at the Indiana Dunes.

Hi Thomas, Your videos take too long to watch... they are the only ones I watch at Normal Playback speed as I marvel at the smooth calm that your tempo and voice engender. This one was especially timely as it was pushed on the 4th of July weekend. If you were more of a salesman and clickbait fisherman you might have timed it for release on the 4th. You're even slowing things down more by releasing two years after your trip. Reminds me of Slow TV in Norway... in a good way. Oh, and missing the focus slightly, I'm wondering if the Sony A9III insect recognition might help with that.... Excellent video; Thank you!

Salticids rock! You get some great shots. Do you ever have them jump on and off the lens if they see their reflection? I had a P. audax do that once. Was pretty interesting.

WOW! Beautiful animals in a most beautiful landscape! People with arachnophobia should watch this video. YT suggested my your video as I watched another video about macro photography with the 'Makrofotografie mit OM-1 II', OM SYSTEM 90mm f/3,5 ED Makro IS PRO Micro four thirds, flashlight FL-900R and a fancy AK parabolic reflector. I wish, I would own this configuration as the OM-1 II supports focus stacking in the camera and can shoot many pictures very fast with the focus stacking. Equipment for macrop photography really improved over the years - as a friend told me he did macro photography with his Canon and the lense mounted seperatly on a piece of wood to get the distance and the gap was covered with a bellows which made the whole construction only useable stationary at home. With the new digi cams - especially the OM-1 II, you can run around in the field and shoot many scenes free handed. What an improvement! Regards and happy picture shooting! ;)

Great video! I had the privilege of finding some H. americanus and hirsutus on campus at Spokane Community College where I go to school, amazing little guys! Edit: I've heard that edges of different ground features like the sides of trails and even some more natural landscaping (where I found my americanus)

Thanks for sharing, beautiful video, and photos as usual! I used to follow you from the time on flickr How you could find jumping spiders by walking on a field, baffles me. Are there so many habronattus in the wild, that by walking in a random field there are so high chances to see them? I cannot find dragonflies when I try to find them at sunrise, in areas where they fly in the thousands during the day, lol!

Your merch is a little odd, because you've got several shirts there that have a specific workshop date and place on them, which I would feel silly wearing because I didn't attend those workshops. But since the words don't form an integral part of the design it seems like it would be trivial to add a print-on-demand variant alongside them that didn't have those words on it. I would otherwise love to buy the "BugShot Montana 2022 Shirt"
