Hear hear! I was born and raised in PA. and now live in central Florida. I believe my biggest mistake in life was leaving home/PA. I think about moving back all the time.
I'm in southwestern PA and love it. Born and bred here. Only left to attend college and also studied abroad in the UK once. But PA is an absolutely breathtaking state. Not many other states can rival it.
Name on grave marker is Hostetler...Very German...Your trips are very much appreciated! Thank you and this was a nice long one today. I know you miss your farm as much as I miss mine. But always remember: No matter where we end up in life our old homestead will always remain with us. Because you can the the person away from their farm but ya cant' take the farm from their heart and memories.
It's sad seeing old churches like that. Makes one wonder how many families came to know God in that church. How many children entered its doors and were taught Bible lessons. Children who learned right from wrong and to love one another. Unlike in our world today that seems to be so far from God and the Truths of His Son Jesus Christ. Thanks for that. That picture up on the hill with the Church at the bottom and the mountains way off in the distance was incredible. A piece of Americana. I grew up in a Church on a Hill and I'm very sentimental right now.
That spring house in your thumb is the very place where I spent many moments of my youth. I actually had a party with friends at that spring house. When I was ten I was hunting with my father and we found an old family graveyard 🪦 of about 12 gravesites in the middle of a cornfield within a cluster of trees not very far from that spring house.
Beautiful cemetery. They once walked where you walked in the video. Imagine....so long ago. There is an old saying : "I will not be gone and forgotten as long as someone speaks my name!" If you see this, read a few names out loud next time you stroll trough a cemetery. Perhaps some day someone will do it for us! :)
A friend shared her research on her ancestors with me. She said that discovering them and writing and thinking and speaking of them, she felt the sensation that they would “take a breath”. p, am be aware of her. The old saying goes: There is a bridge between the living and the dead, and that bridge is Love. ❤️🌹
You were on Zion Church Rd. If you continue up the road you will come to Moisers Knob Rd. Make a left. When you get to Michaels Rd on the left there was a house. It may be gone. You will see a pond and a trail downhill. You will come to two fields. The field to the right, if you go to the bottom you will find what may be a lime kiln built into the hillside.
Lovely old brick church and cemetary..it looks well cared for…lawn mowed to perfection. I wish you would have tried the church door or peeked in window.! The Springhouses were amazing!! So solidly made and well preserved. Thank you for the adventure into early American history. The music fit the scenes and the winding roads. Thank you for a pleasant sunday afternoon…. from WA 🌲🌲🌲🌲 the Evergreen State..🇺🇸
Uncle Cliff & the " Old Cemetery Stroll " ! I like the drives along the back roads with the music , as much or more sometimes than the nature hikes ! Nice video Mista Cliff 😊👊
Wisconsin Kathy here. The scenery is beautiful as we ride along with you today. Thank you. One of my pastimes has always been walking through cemeteries. Oh garsh....I wish that would of been a real sasquatch. At this spring house....there should be watercress growing. Loving this video
Thank you for a grand Sunday drive. I always drive the Delaware Water Gap when I go to visit my son in VA...I am from NH. Thanks again....keep the videos coming...
The road ends at the Delaware and there are two more springs after Owen's Springhouse on that rd but they are covered up by heavy underbrush. They are more easily visible in the fall. I regularly go to that road and fish the delaware where the Freeman Tract ends. The gated trails on the river side of the road lead to primitive camp sites for people traveling the delaware water trail.
I believe the first springhouse was called Cold Spring Farm Springhouse. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2f/Cold_Spring_Farm_Springhouse_DWG_NPS.jpg/1200px-Cold_Spring_Farm_Springhouse_DWG_NPS.jpg
Thanks for one more interesting tour but the nature looks very like the nature of southern sweden i can see how the europeans felt at home over there god bless from sweden
This was a fun video. You clearly stay on top of your history. These places are too far away for a day trip for us but if you're every up closer to NY, not the city, we'd love to show you some of our hidden trails.
Drive was so relaxing & loved your music choice. Spring houses are just so cool! Cemetaries are beautiful especially love the older ones. View on hill down to the little church was just amazing. Does leave you curious what the road behind was. Glad it was only a stick under your vehicle and not an issue. This was my kind of adventure. Thanks to you & Naomi very much for bringing me along!!🥰❤
I have been enjoying your videos. My parents and sister are from Pennsylvania. Kennett Square and I think Springdell. I’m the born and bred Mainer but we spent every summer at my grandparents house. Anyhow, I saw that cemetery and I thought that’s were my dad’s family was buried for a quick second but then I realized they are buried in Gum Tree. Thank you for bringing some old homes, abandoned places, and just for the exploration. Look forward to many more
We are about 5 min from Bushkill church, so it was fun to see all the familiar places! We have a book about the history of the area and it is interesting and kind of hard to believe how busy it used to be!
whow What discovery reminds me old West o Ireland small cottages love sound water maybe some one Ireland settled tr Way Back I used to Love off beaten track! Brian Ireland again tks
My great uncle Sydney sparks owned a home at dingmans ferry. He owned a woodshop where he made pepsals, which he invented. His home was taken thru eminent domain. It was a beautiful piece of property with a beautiful stone hone, guest house and woodshop and a stone pool. Is it still there? I have always wondered what happened to it.
Car exploring is great fun. R209 hasn't changed in 35 years, probably the last time I was on it. That old road along the river was probably full of summer cottages at one time until the state bought the land. Thanks for sharing, very enjoyable.
Great off the beaten path exploring. I've always enjoyed driving roads just to see where they go and lead to. Sometimes you can come across wonderful things. Last year in the Adirondacks doing this, I came upon a mother moose and her calf nursing in the middle of the road. Thanks Cliff 👍
That's hilarious Cliff, you probably gave the Treible's an afterlife heart attack if there is such a thing by not being sure if that was her husband resting next to her in the cemetery. Be glad you straightened it out.....you wouldn't want Mr. Treible or the Missis visit you some dark night..... :)
Springhouses around 19:00 and 24:00 look like people are maintaining the roof and at least some of the paint. Paint looked reasonably fresh without flaking and Tocks Island was like 55 years ago.
There are only 2 points of Foul Rift White Water rapids in the river. One is way closer to NY. The other is just below The Gap. Can't miss it really if you're out on the water, someone painted a big ole bullseye on it :)
Hi Cliff, I love these drive and explore video's as you never really know what you will come across. So many picturesque locations in one video, awesome. Thank you for taking us along and sharing, much love. xx 💖
Wow that Church and the cemetery were just beautiful. So we’re this spring houses just loved the stonework. While you putting pics on Instagram please remember Facebook some of us don’t do Instagram. Please stay safe and take care
That was cool as heck with the first spring house you found. I am from Ohio and never heard of anything like this, never saw anything like this before. This building must be old, from the 1700s? Can you go back there in the fall? I would like to see this in fall with the leaves. Thank you. I am stuck out in the southwest, really miss Ohio and PA, WV.
Real nice one! So glad to see the spring houses and church are well preserved. You have to take us along up that cemetary road for a hike sometime. I'll be watching.
Very nice drive👍. I had a branch get stuck in my wheel well like u. It was loud because i had the top of the Jeep as well. I though something was wrong with the wheel or something 😂
Concrete has been around for thousands of years dude. It doesn't mean that wall is recent. Two things keeps me watching you: history and hiking. I wish I could still go out into the woods. In the meantime I will settle for you. Keep doing what you do.
Beautiful Country. THAT is the MINISINK Territory. You should go to the NEW York Side. Just across the river from Lackawaxen PA. You will find the Minisink Battle Field, (Also called the Battle of Lackawaxen. Bodies were left on the field for 50 years. Place is reputed to be haunted. Check it out.
You missed a chance to check out a F&I fort site off RT.209 (Fort Hyndshaw). Located just before the Bushkill flows into Delaware river. I visited this site years ago, found an old cemetery in the woods near where the Bushkill flows.
I found an area whare think there was a mine on the pa side. It has ventricles coming up. And if you follow the trail you find a stone small building. It's in a no trespassing but I always wanted to know more about it. I explored the nj side more but I am interested in y The pa side.
1st....a question...what was that yellow flower in the 1st cemetery? My Mom had some, I brought some with me when I moved. She had Alzheimers and couldn't remember the names of her flowers anymore. What beautiful roads! I'd be driving them all the time. And the view at the church/cemetery...WOW!
Is Naomi what you call your vehicle? I would so enjoy trying to do this in my home State... there really is so much to see and find in Alabama too. My grandfather and I would pal around in the 80s looking for covered bridges, caverns, history markers, Natural Bridge, Mt Cheaha back then hitting Stuckeys etc... all before the internet. Good times.
How is it that squatters seem to find these abandoned buildings out in the middle of nowhere?! Just like these old bridges out in the sticks miles from towm, they always have graffiti on them. Such a shame.
