When I was working in China during the late 1990s and early 2000s there were few homeless people but mostly in big cities not in small towns. They would appear late at night and they would take shelter at 24hr cafes. Most of them do hold a job but they just don't want to rent an apartment but rather sleep out in the open and when the weather turns bad they hang out at 24hr fast food joints or sleep at their place of work double up as the " Unofficial " security guard. I know one of them who works as a cleaner at the place I was working.

@@wumao6797 But you are referring to 20 years ago. China has developed so much in 20 years ... I would guarantee you that if you went there today ... you would not recognise the country. I saw NO street people and I went to big cities. I went to Beijing and I went to Shanghai (plus many other cities). I saw NO street people in either of those Mega Cities ... and they are both bigger that New York City in terms of population ... yet in New York City there were Street People everywhere.

Another thing is, Chinese people would always prefer to save some money, in case some unexpected accident happens, like losing their job, or someone in the family gets very sick and needs to be hospitalized for a long period, their life won't be dragged down. Like in Qatar under the football games, where people was forcibly removed from their current housing, their passport taken from them to keep them trapped for completion of stadiums.. So was it in China during the Olympic games in Beijing. Except it was their own citizens, who came from poor areas, predominantly in the south-western regions. In those villages there are not even streetlights, and the young strong goes to the big cities to work in unwanted jobs. Such services as maids, factories and harbour work.. When the Olympic games were to begin, they were kicked out of the city so they would not be seen. As they are like immigrants in their own country.. a low standing citizen, in what is portrayed as a progressive nation. That is how communism work. Only a select group can reap the benefits from the work of many

This is sooooooo true. I've travelled to USA and I've travelled to China. The thing that caught me by surprise is the Street People in USA. I even saw the ones you see on TV in Los Angeles under one of their bridges holding a sign saying he was a retired Vet and needed food. In New York City, I was staying on the 20th Floor of a Hotel only to be woken up by noises of bins at ground level were Street People were going through the trash to find stuff. The amount of Graffiti in USA was disturbing ... some were Artistic, others were not. But in all of China, I never saw ANY Street people. Everybody had a home to go to. And their Cities were absolutely clean. So for those trashing China ... you really need to go and visit China to see the TRUTH. I could NOT believe how misguided and misinformed we are until I visited China for myself. I was blown away. It was NOTHING like we've been told back home. And China is the most Futuristic Countries I've ever visited ... leaving all other countries (even USA) for dead. A Coopers to China!

Couldn't agree more, GDP surely seems very misleading as an economic indicator, unless China is grossly understating its vs The US overstating its. Also, GDP doesn't reflect the lack of violent crime and the absence of homelessness. If you see graffiti in any U.S. cities, turn around and get the hell out of that area. You're in a bad neighborhood and might get mugged or shot. I’m a Vietnamese, 10 years ago I went to Melbourne for studying, the very first thing that shocked me is that there were many homeless people on the street of Melbourne CBD. They’re not old or disabled or mental ill people but young and look strong, and yes they still asked for other people money and mercy. In my country, no one would behave like that, as long as you have no health issue, you’ll want to work for money, if you’re ill, disabled your family, your neighborhood and local authority will take care of you. The 2nd shocking issue for me is the racism among my western Aussie classmates, they think they’re superior and I feel sad for them. Tellers in the bank, shop clerks, they all show their racism to Asian people like me. Many of my friends admire western culture, freedom but not me. I decided to come back to my country, now I’m proud of my decision to comeback and contribute to my motherland. You’re welcome to come and see my country, and you’ll feel like you’re at your home with our people warm regards. See you, my friends.

Western countries have prejudice and discrimination against all but their white counterparts. They treat black people with fried chicken and watermelon, and yellow people with squinting eyes. It is their norm to think that they are superior, and their vagabonds are also normal, such as drugs, casinos, and the pornography industry. Of course, this is part of it. There are also failed entrepreneurs and unemployed workers, which is also their government's inaction🤔🤔🤔

The real truth about homelessness is that it is mainly an overwhelming sense of "HOPELESSNESS". *I live in the Bay Area. When people feel they don't belong (family/community) or they can't keep up with the capitalistic class system (money) the abysmal downward spiral of mental depression often than not leads the individual to resort to drugs to cope... ensuring their ability to comeback that much more challenging. The problem with worshipping money above all else is what you see in the West: no communal identity and therefore no loyalty to each other...

When I grew up in China, I had never seen any homeless people in any Chinese cities. Although the average income of the people in China is lower than many western countries, most Chinese owe their houses, and there is no need to pay house tax and council tax, the utility bills are very cheap as well, food and other service costs are cheap too, so the people's living standards are actually no worse than many developed countries.

In China (and to a less extent in Russia) the Oligarchs are controlled by the Government for the benefit of the people. In the West, even Canada, the Oligarchs control the government for the benefit of the elite 1-5%. There is no equitable distribution of wealth. In America Especially!! There, Lobbying of Government, is legalized Bribery. In most cases 90% of legislation is created to benefit the Wealth, often times written by those who benefit from it by the Lobbyists. The 10% of legislation, faces a harder path to being enacted, because it often goes counter to the benefit of the Wealthy, as it benefits the lower classes. Just look at the legislation during the Reagan to Trump era, that was suppose to aid the countries poorest during times of want. Who got the most (often 80-90%)? It was bailouts for the wealthy, and an after thought pittance for the rest of society. Even their Covid Relief packages. That should open the eyes of the population, but the Media, ranted against it as Communism or Socialist Policies, to a society brainwashed to believe that they will one day be in the upper class, if they work hard. They vote against their own best interest for that reason.

I'm actually a bit perplexed on why the Chinese government continues to call China a developing nation. Is it because of the low Per Capita compared to other industrialized nations? Mathematically, Chinese per capita is low because of China's huge population. If you factor in GDP, manufacturing throughput, industrial diversity, technological expertise, advanced infrastructure, human development index, literacy rate, health care system, and number of Chinese global corporations in the fortune 100 category, China ticks every box to be categorized as an industrialized nation.

Totally agree 1000%. USA is out of control. I'm a foreign student from Indonesia ( Honestly, the Universities in USA are still one the best in the world), I witness so many homelessness, crimes , break-in ( cars), drug addicts and gun violence. Most of the street, in the poor area, are littered with garbage and human feces. San Francisco.....you just type " Tenderloin area", " Break-in" , " stealing "and " Crimes". At night ( 10PM...) the city, basically, is dead!!! So Irony, the Policeman of the world but USA can't even control/manage the country.

I lived in China for four years, in Shandong province and i travelled around, Beijing, Anhui, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Xian, Shanghai, Nanjing, Rizhao, i've been in big cities and it small villages and not once have i ever seen a homeless person. I can't swear there's none, China is too big, but personally not one. I am Spanish and here also there's more and more precariousness

@Daniel Okeke TV that might be wherever you live, not where i lived in China! actually many nights i've passed by the McDonnald's near my house and never have i seen any homeless person sleeping in there. Not in there nor in any other place. And why would i need a chinese person to identify a homeless person?🤣 a homeless person is someone who doesn't have a house, so either sleeps in the streets or spends the nights in some night shelter... In Spain, where i'm from, it's not rare to find homeless persons sleeping under bridges and alleys, in the bank office doors and other shop doors, also in the parks, even during the daytime... 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Daniel Okeke TV Also, McDonald's is open 24h and those places or karaokes for example are were some people can just spend the night. i knew a chinese student whose father was violent, she spemt some nights around those places! About actual homeless people staying at McDonald's i've only heard about it in Hong Kong and that area, no surprise after decades of british economy-politics... life in Hong Kong area is only affordable for a few, house pricing, salaries and life cost... they have big problems! hope the chinese government will soon pit and end to all that

@Daniel Okeke TV Shops don't "give them shelter" but rather people is free to hang out in 24h open shops. @ireneserrano4570 3 года назад
@Daniel Okeke TV in China they dont usually throw you out anyway, you can stay there studying, working, sleeping or doing whatever, the workers won't care and companies won't even bother to mind other people'd business. As i said i know people that have stayed the night in restaurants and karaokes, it's not that my chinese boyfriend has told me, it's also my chinese friends and specially my own experience of years living in China, again i haven't seen homelessness as there's in the Western countries, it's shameless here (the West). I've just come back from the city centre in Madrid and i've seen more than10 and some empty beds+personal items in two closed shops doorways... it's getting worse and worse and in the meantime governments are busy minding their mogul friend's pockets...

Me too, I thought L.A is the best city so I went to L.A, I saw maybe 40 tents in a small square in a park so I told the taxi driver “wow! They are going to have a concert or event in this place! Look at those tents , so cute, maybe they are waiting the star. What event is it? Who will perform? “ But the taxi driver didn’t answer me anything. Other people in the taxi looked embarrassed and avoid my question too. I went to San Diego old town station. I saw many rats are running , I was very happy because I love animals and I never seen rats in china, I thought they are very cute like pets. I mean I still think they are cute. @Cooder Koonassgrabber If you think there will be a civil war in China, we can wait together. I believe you can live 100 years. If there is no civil war until then, you must apologize to the whole Chinese people. China today is no longer what it was more than 120 years ago. Please don't look at a country with outdated thinking. The Chinese people are more united than ever before. Every country will encounter disasters. Whether it is the flood in Germany, the flood in China or the earthquake in Haiti, we should all feel pity. If you still have a little humanitarian spirit, you should not make unwarranted accusations against the disasters of other countries. If you respect natural science, you will know that this is a disaster caused by global warming. China has a vast land area, and it is normal for China to be affected by natural disasters occasionally. Every country has its own problems, and China is no exception, but you can't discredit China without real evidence. This is a manifestation of disrespect for science and facts. There is an old Chinese saying that "hearing is false, seeing is true". I believe you have not been to China. Please take a look at the real China. Don't live in lies all day. You can't evaluate a country by your own imagination, which is illogical. I am a senior high school student. I am talking to you with the thinking of a senior high school student. Please don't reply to me with the thinking of a baby.

I think it's also about the culture. In many Asian cultures, we are taught that as long as you can still move around, you should go find a job and work to support yourself and your family. That's why in China you see people who lost everything from tragedies working really hard to get their life back. You see people who lost their legs or arms from accidents learning how to adapt to new life and take the challenge and develop new skills. I used to buy hand-made clay flowers from a disabled man on the street every week. He lost both hands and one leg from an accident but he never gave up his life. Instead, he learned how to make decorations using his mouth and arms and foot and even made it to the newspaper with his story. He never took donations from people buying his stuff. And he's just one example of the many.

I've also noticed a distinct lack of roadside trash in your videos. The egg was cracked, true. However, the trash I saw on my walk was empty liquor bottles, drug needles & random piles of miscellaneous junk. Normally I'd pick the trash up, but I stopped doing that because of COVID. Seriously! LA is way too overhyped and misrepresented. There are glamorous pockets where the rich live but the average person cannot afford to live in those areas. The core of the city and where most live and hang out is much more run down and awful looking, just with palm trees all over to try to distract from the reality of what it looks like at ground level especially as a pedestrian. The nicest spots are near or in the hills or along the coast, minus Venice area. The rest, not so nice looking. San Diego and Santa Barbara are much better looking as a whole but there are also many homeless in them as the homelessness issue is a national problem in the US.
