Searching for legal off-road riding options in N.J.

Despite the heat, riders at the Field of Dreams facility in Millville spent a summer afternoon blasting through dust clouds as they enjoyed a perfectly legal ride. Unfortunately for off-road enthusiasts, such options are few and far between in New Jersey. (Greg Adomaitis | For NJ.com)

The answer is that the state can actually use tax dollars and build a state run off-road park. Especially considering how much the average owner pays in property taxes.

NJ makes owning a dirt bike/atv like owning a dam gun. But then you drive past Motorcycle shops and what the first dam thing you see on display dirt bikes, quads , utv

I'm 54 and when I was a kid I don't know if it was legal to ride in but you could go anywhere and police didn't bother you ,now it's hard to own a bike in this state , I just got back into ridding after 15 years and I have to pay to ride , but there is so many good spots in nj you'd think the state would open some of it up and charge so we could use it and give the kids something to do , but jersey sucks

The state of New Jersey should have more places to ride dirt bikes legally.

I miss the one in Chatsworth. I spent many days after school with my dad riding there.

When I was a kid, we were allowed to ride the Pine Barrens and many other areas as much as we wanted. The biggest thing (IMO) the took that freedom away was the lawsuits that people filed when their kids got hurt on these lands. The fact of the matter is if you ride you can and will fall. It will hurt even when you wear the proper gear (sh*t happens). Take responsibility for your own actions and understand the consequences of everything you do. The only work around now it to ride a duel sport. I have a yamaha WR250R which is basically a 4stroke dirt bike with a headlight and signal lights. Surprise people, you can ride it on any forestry road in NJ including the pine barrens and many other places. Every park road and also the paved roads to get from one area to the next. This is completely legal because the bike is registered and insured. So all those dirt roads and areas you see can be accessed and ridden if you so chose.

It's sad it is illegal for any ORV's to be ridden here in the garden state. The only option we have is the Field of Dreams or if you have permission from a landowner and for years we didn't even have the track so we improvised and still do. I live very close to the track and I've never been, although I'm considering trying it out to support our sport. I'm blessed to be able to ride on my own private property and not pay a dime however it's nice to explore new terrain. It's a shame that those of us who love riding have to always look over our shoulder.

Show NJ how happy you are by leaving. This state is not what it was 30 years ago, and it's all getting worse daily.

Richard Montini There used to be an off-road park in Chatsworth but closed down due to rising insurance costs and constant badgering from the Pine Barrons Commission.

@@2000ViperGTSsubscribe I could be wrong but aren't plated dirt bikes just basically motorcycles? There are plenty or trails you can take your truck on. Wouldnt it be the same for motorcycles?
@2000ViperGTSsubscribe
@2000ViperGTSsubscribe 5 лет назад
@@coryboucher816 Respectfully you are wrong here. There are not plenty of trails to take your truck on legally, in fact even the park at Wharton is nearly closed unless you stick on main roads and then you are even harassed for, get this, more than 2 off road lights on your vehicle! The state police lie in waiting, I have even been stopped in the forest and I am 50 years old shaking people down and the park rangers are our too for vehicles let alone motorcycles. All motorcycles can be ridden on the "roads" which are main names trails if they have all registration and insurance, but beyond that, heck no. The state clearly does not want motorized vehicles in the woods of any type and they enforce it with police and rangers and one reason I do not want to be in NJ as I enjoy camping, off roading and the outdoors, but they want parks to walk in. Even camping, you need a permit and only in a very small established area, and even then more rules than you can write down. #NJSUCKS

It’s a fuckkm joke easier to go do deugs on the stree than it is to ride. There state lands for miles and miles and miles and miles or being used that already has trails
@thatfunkymonkey

The answer is simple. Give people a safe and legal area to ride in that doesn't cost $100 a visit like the only 2 places you can legally ride off road in NJ. Maybe open up some trails and state parks to off road vehicles. New Jersey sucks.
