Wow that forest is something out of a dream. I cant believe there's bees so big and chonky. The flowers are thriving, and the amount of coexistence was so amazing to see. Ive never seen such a diverse forest thats so condensed. I live in the southeast US and we keep losing more and more native species every year. I've been scared of most bugs ever since i was a kid, but its really awesome to see real nature that hasnt been disturbed by humans. And from a distance they cant fly, jump or scuttle unpredictably at me.

I’d say yes to collecting a queen and starting your own captive colony. If you do and the colony thrives, that queen could produce other queens that you can let go and increase the numbers of endemic ants. If the endemic ants number are big enough they can fight off invasive ants.
@Taylorswiftvibes-x5o

I believe the ball of white fuzz was a spider mite nest. You can see the wisps of a mite's web trailing off the pinchers. If you look closely, you'll see a couple mites riding the web, looking for the perfect opportunity to take flight. They excrete a small ball of fuzz like a cotton ball balloon to catch the breeze and float away. More impressive is their ability to control their flight and navigate the air turbulence efficiently, like a finely tuned fighter jet. For the last 2 years I've been learning to live with them in my garden and, sadly, in my home. My desire is to understand more about their species by observing their behaviors, their motivations, their strategies for survival, and the environments they thrive in. There is so much to learn.
@michaeltilkens9409

I think you should try cultivateing a colony because rare species are always under threat. So the more we can get into the hobby if they are facing extinction the better the chance they can be brought back into the ecosystem.

These blue ants are totally different to the ones I used to see when I was a kid. In Australia's southern states, you get what is apparently known as "Diamma Bicolor", which is not actually an ant at all, but a solitary ground-dwelling wasp.
@thwompalot5000
@thwompalot5000 2 года назад
I did some casual research on the blue ant. You're not lying, they're pretty rare and exceptionally rare in captivity. It's a species we could learn a lot about. If you have the chance to attempt a captive colony there's some real questions about them that perhaps you'd be able to answer. I don't just think it would be cool to see, but there's a real chance you could further our understanding of them and may be able to add to their conservation.

I remember seeing one of these blue ants when I was really young, and when I told my dad about it he didn't believe me, thinking it was just my 6 year old mind going wild. Years later, I just randomly had this memory pop up in my head, so I googled it, and it's real, and it's endemic to where I live. Turns out I wasn't just an imaginative 6 year old.

I saw one of these blue ants once, in the fall of 2009, in MA, USA. It was beautiful, like anodized titanium. I remember trying to look it up after I got home and not being able to find it. I've looked several times over the years and while there were some types of ant that I thought seemed similar, nothing was quite right. I started to think I must be misremembering what I saw. But, now I know what it was! I'm sure they're not native to New England, but I saw it right outside the loading bay of a big box store. It must've hitched a ride. Thank you for finally solving this mystery for me.

Absaloutly loved your film, as good as any TV documentary I've seen...as far as should you capture the Blues...this is hard, but I guess all captive bred anything started somewhere, my answer is the same as with the huntsman spider...IF you can supply what or as close to what they have in nature, and as long as theyre not rare due to deforestation and such...then I suppose I'd have to say, give it a go, it would be good to see how these are in comparison to other breeds. And my favourite bug on this episode...the catwalking, highly photographic model of the forest 😆 the Weavel...absaloutly beautiful, and the way she posed..what a stunner 😁 (Just seen the time of post...im a year out 🤦‍♀️, I've only just come across your channel...so you've probably already done what you wanted as far as those exotic blue ants..🤷‍♀️!!)

I appreciate how you always ask a question at the end and how the answer is revealed in the following video, not to mention that you also send a gift to a random lucky person with the right answer. If the videos they used to show us in school when i was younger were this good and engaging I might of payed attention more to be honest. Bill Nye is the homie ofcourse but your the GOAT lol. All jokes aside I also really appreciate how you edit your videos with the ads, always leaving me full of anticipation and for some reason I even enjoy the ad aha.. Just like cable TV and its commercials, perfect placement of ads nonetheless. Your videos always leave me on the edge of my seat and I just can't wait for the next one to drop. I never cared for ants or insects for that matter but this channel alone has taught me alot about not just ants but nature aswell. I've seen those personally, in a mountain near my home, though I didn't realize how rare and unstudied they are. They seem solitary, and rather docile. They look like a couple of small, plump blueberries stuck together, wandering about. I didn't think much of them, beyond their blue hue and plumpness. I want to say they are about half an inch long, but it may have been smaller; I didn't bother checking them out closely.
