This is Part II of bringing this Kohler power Sears Craftsman back to life. Bought this off our local Craigslist advertised as is and would not start. This is a Sears Craftsman Model 247.374320 push lawn mower with a Kohler Courage Engine on it. Took the carburetor off it was very clean just the inside jet was plugged up. This brought this lawn mower back to life!

Holy crap that worked like a charm!! I unscrewed the nozzle and blew into it to clear the blockage. The jet seemed pretty clean. Now I'm back in business. Thanks much!!!!!

Hello Oisin thanks for viewing and great job getting it back running. These are really nice engines the Kohler Courage they sound really good running. Gotten a few like this picked up broken with similar problems a clogged jet, just looks like dried gas. It could be prolonged use of Ethanol gas or add a fuel stabilizer to prevent this from occurring. Glad your back in the lawn cutting business again, take care!

I just had to pay someone $75 to fix this problem for me. Next time I'll be able to take care of it myself thanks to this video.

Just did one of these carbs today, it wasn't as quick as you did it. The needle was stuck like it was superglued in. Mine was on a 22" Ariens and the automatic choke link rod was bent in a way that was a lot more difficult to unhook. Even after ultrasonic cleaning, the choke blade just doesn't feel as free as it should be. It was pretty well stuck before. The main jet didn't want to come out, but I got it out finally without damaging anything. I didn't pop the emulsion tube out, I'm going to redo it and get that out, just to be sure it's fully clean. I need to replace that needle valve, it was sticking in the bore from a bit of corrosion. It cleaned up, and isn't leaking, but I'm concerned the tip might be a little ragged after pulling it out. I really soaked it, from both sides, with gumout, but it didn't want to let go of that seat. Seems like a well built motor, it has ball bearing seals on the crank and can idle at a really low speed. Mower was pretty clean and so was the oil, but it has been sitting for a long time. Cleaned the tank too with soap and water and carb cleaner. The gas in it smelled like turpentine. It did start on the first pull though, but it's not perfectly smooth. I might check the valve lash if the second carb clean doesn't get it purring perfectly.

Have the exact mower that I can't start. Going to try this repair right now. Thanks for the video!

It appears that this was posted about 3 years ago. There is a Kohler recall, TSB, on these mowers for the single latch air box and the gas tank filler tube being out of round. You might want to check it out. Great video.

I picked up the identical mower, somebody was giving it away. Carb was very dirty and one head bolt lose. Put gas and it ran fine . Let it sit over night. Fine. No leaking. Used it once , ran good and cut great But now it leaked from carb. I fooled around with spring holding the needle to make it push more on the seat . Seems better now. Do I need a new carb? Or has ethanol did it’s damage. ? Part # 14 853 68-S They defended need a lot of courage 😆

Just an honest question here - after you clean the carb out it might work for a while, might work for a short while but you still have an old carburetor. If it was a pricey item, I can see cleaning but this unit is like 16 bucks. Wouldn't it just make more sense to buy a new one and have it last years?

The other guy probably cleaned the jet but didn't bother draining the tank. Typical. Nice work.

could this be a reason for the fuel to be shooting at the air filter?

Great video BUT I still can't figure out how to remove the linkage. All the videos I've seen show them just kind of slipping out after everything is loose. Mine seems like I'm going to have to bend it and that doesn't seem right. What am I missing???

Have a similar model. it's the a gen carb with diaphragm and idle screw on the side which I hear is for the low idle jet, otherwise pretty much the exact model. Problem is, It's surging under load and flooding the air filter which is leading to hard restarts unless I manually override the auto choke. Always starts first pull when choked but its surging under load only which is flooding it and will only restart if I manually choke it, or wait for the auto choke to close once cooled. I just cleaned the carb and it was spotless. Gas has been drained religiously and carb was clean so I was reluctant to mess with the idle screw and diaphragm, which I'm thinking might be the culprit. Not sure on the idle screw settings either, might just need a tweak? any thoughts?

I have this exact mower, model# 247.374320. I have cleaned the carb, checked the float and needle shut off (looked new) and got the mower running nicely. However, I have a fuel leak issue coming from the smaller tube on the back of the intake box. I can run the mower, let it shut off, and within 30 seconds with the air filter cover off and air filter out, you can see fuel spitting out of the small vent hole inside on the bottom right of the air intake. I'm stumped and would appreciate any advice or thoughts on what this might be.

Needed to see how the auto choke linkage went together but you didn't show it. Thumbs down for that.
