Knowing that Rashid is in fact the vampire Armand made me rewatch all previous episodes with new eyes and how Armand interacts with Louis and Daniel. Louis has gaps in his memory, Claudia's diaries have been altered by someone other than Louis... Rewatch the last minute or so, particularly Louis' face after his declaration that Armand is the love of his life (Blink twice if you need help, Louis!).
@cullenarthur8879
@cullenarthur8879 Год назад
Yes, this occurred to me as well. It really calls into question how much Louie's memory is being manipulated by Armand. Armand is very powerful, and it's possible that he is capable of manipulating Louie. You also notice he seems to step in when Malloy's questions veer in a direction he doesn't like. He is definitely overseeing this interview.

I think the Armand reveal is more effective for book readers. The character is very relevant to where Claudia, Lestat, and Louis end up. I can see where viewers can get lost that do not know Armand's backstory. Without a huge spoiler, Louis was not being genuine with his last line.

You are missing alot of subtle details. Details that I don't think are going to be spelled out for you. For instance, Armand saying he protects Louis from himself, the book room having a bookshelf out of reach (unless you can fly-which is pretty cruel if you love books like Louis and are unable to fly up and get them), & Daniel saying that this interview has strange inconsistencies from the original interview (and the way Louis seems to not remember some things😶)

Armand is a big reveal for fans of the Vampire Chronicles and the fact that Daniel doesn't remember him is important because Armand and Daniel have history in the books. Claudia's story will definitely be the heart of season 2, I'm sure you will get emotional watching it. Lestat was the conflict of this season but he basically the main character of the Vampire Chronicles so he's not intended to be a villain. I would say compared to Armand and the other older Vampires Lestat is the fun one. You also missed something that only book readers would know but while Lestat was playing the piano and Louis was decorating their Christmas tree, Lestat mentions those who must be kept, which is a reference to Akasha and Enkil the first vampires.
@kevinmarques7716

While I can see that the reveal isn't really huge to ppl not really familiar with the books, as a huge fan of both the books and the movie, Armand is a huge character throughout the entire series and is very important. So i do agree that they should have shown something within the show to let ppl know that he's a big character, but i for one am very excited to see them explore his character in season 2. He's a really cool and interesting character. He was played by Antonio Banderas in the movie.

I think it doesn't matter if you know who Armand is or not. Louis was in a relationship with a 200 year old Lestat and couldn't handle him at all in a physicall fight. Now he's finally older and stronger and also he got out of his relationship with lestat but OOPS turns out he's dating a 500 year old vampire who can walk in the freaking sun. And he calls him the love of his life! You know Louis' taste in men by now! Also, it's pretty obvious that Daniel's memory has been ALTERED at this point. Armand saved his life apparently and Daniel doesn't remember him at all? Come on. That is a season finale reveal for me, you don't have to know who armand is for that either. I feel like the scene tells you all you need to know in general!

I'm re-reading The Vampire Lestat now and I wanted to point out the significance of Armand using the mind or spell gift because he uses it on Lestat when they first meet to try and convince him to join him. Basically Armand can alter memories and somewhat control emotions. The show suggests he altered Daniel's memories which is why his recollection of the first interview isn't good. He's most likely controlling Louis emotions to a degree as well but I'm not sure if that's Louis' decision or not.

Also the reveal of him being a vampire isn't as Important as him being "Armand" if you watch the movie it'll make a lot more sense or read the books, Armand is a big deal and WAY more dangerous and more powerful than Lestat, who Armand was at one point also in a sexual relationship with when he was a young vampire(it ended BADLY) also Louis tells Daniel that the interview is meant to be a warning

@remholloway2579
@remholloway2579 Год назад
@@obi-wankenobi2974 That is technically wrong. Initially Lestat hated Armand. Armand did technically "rape" Lestat in the second half of The Vampire Lestat. But Lestat grew to trust him and eventually loved him which is why Lestat left the tower with him when he and his mother were leaving Paris. Also what happened with Nicki wasn't really Armand's fault. Nicki started to go insane before he was turned into a vampire, the change only made it worse. Armand tried to keep him from revealing the threater troops secret essentially, which is why Armand caught off Nicki's hands. But Nicki commited suicide. Armand didn't kill him, and Lestat understood why Armand didn't stop him. also side note: sex in this story between two vampires is when they exchanged blood.

But even though you don't know what Armand is, the fact they have duped Daniel that he's not human and he's seemingly much more powerful, and Daniel managed to trigger Louis' real memory makes you question which part of his story is really real or not should trigger some red flags to you. This is one of the best finales I've seen in years !! I could not believe that Lestat turned Antoinette into a vampire !! The crazy part is he wanted her to replace Claudia smh Even if she joined the family, Louis would be more depressed and eventually kill himself. Did you notice Louis face when he said Here’s Armand the love of my life ? It didn’t sound or look convincing lol Louis likes to read but Armand has the books high up where he can’t reach them. Armand’s comments were also creepy. I care more about him then does himself. My favorite moment might be Daniel calling out Louis BS in the end "was it raining Louis". Louis is so in love that he saves Lestat (love me some Toxic-Love/fucked up soulmates). I respectfully disagree regarding the reveal that Rashid-Armand is a vampire and the supposed love of Louis' life. The present day section of the story has repeatedly asked the audience to consider whether Louis has grown as a person and whether we can trust the story we are being told. The reveal of Rashid-Armand's identity not only reinforces what we conclude from that final confrontation between Louis and Daniely (namely, that the answer to both is likely a resounding no), but also makes it clear that this is not limited to the circumstances around Lestat's "murder". While we saw Rashid-Armand in the background of a number of scenes, we were never led to believe that his presence had any real influence on how Louis was telling the story. Now we know that he is both more aware of what Daniel and Louis have been speaking about (thanks to vampire hearing and mind reading abilities), and Louis has certainly intentionally and unintentionally tailored the story around him. For example, how should we understand the way that Louis talks about his feelings for and attraction to Lestat when his new partner is listening the whole time? Does this mean that Louis was not the one who made the decision to remove certain pages of Claudia's diaries? What does it say that Louis has spent the interview thus far describing a toxic relationship with a massive power inequality, only to introduce us to his new, suspiciously unhappy seeming, relationship where there is an even bigger power difference between the pair?

Your end of series questions are sounding like the genre has lost its intrigue for you. "Why does the interview matter"? The interview matters to David because... um... vampires. Evidence of the supernatural that does not currently exist in this universe, that would be a big deal. Why does the interview matter to Louis? Confession is in his nature. It's what he was trying to do when Lestat turned him, and it's what he'll be trying to do for the rest of his troubled life. Louis wants to confess and be held accountable for not just what he's done but for what he is.

Lestat was being completely real when Louis "killed" him, he loves Louis to an insane degree even if it can be hard to see in this show, at this point in time, if you haven't read the books; and he is actually the anti-hero of the whole book series and a very beloved character; it's not Louis' story after the first book, it's Lestat's, and the first book can't be trusted either because Louis is an unreliable narrator which the show does a really good job at pointing out. Also, you can't really put what these two lovers do to each other in a human context, they are monsters and they live in their own little world, outside of humanity. If you don't know the books, I can see how the whole Armand reveal doesn't hold the same impact. All book fans are instantly gonna be like "Love of my life" WTF!???? Just no. I feel like the show should have showed something more of him because Armand is a major player and even more messed up than Lestat, and Daniel is doing really well in noticing how weird things are in that soulless Dubai concrete box, but that he doesn't remember Armand is really important too because those two.... whew... all the little looks between them makes sense once you know who Rashid really is. By the way, Louis ripping off that man's jaw just proves that he too is capable of being absolutely vicious at times. Claudia was the real MVP of this episode though, she really was 5 steps ahead of Lestat which is not easy to pull off. Clever girl. :)

Having read the books, the reveal of WHY Louis is re-doing the interview IS going to be a big reveal in season 2 IMO. Given the structure of the story, I don't think there was any way to reveal what I think is going to be that reason unless S1 had covered the full story, which originally it was supposed to do, but ended up getting split in half instead. If I'm correct in my suspicions, it'll be a great reveal I think.

@@Navyman825 Dude, you *really* don't see the setup of the fact that Daniel's storyline already happened in the past? Because it's obvious as *hell* that it did. It just had a different ending than it did in the book, along with the first book just not being published because Louis was around and involved with that whole thing in this version as well. @@cbrownjc7633 Of course I know that Daniels story line happened in the past as to interview #1. But in the book Daniels story line did not include a #2 interview. This is a major shift from the books, because anyone who read book 2 and 3 knows what happened to him at a young age, and the love of Daniels life. Not to give any spoilers. I was referring to the major shift in this story when it comes to Daniel. Also the way it ended in the book was the same ending of the first interview in this show because you hear the attack on Daniel by Louis on the tape, and se see the bite marks on Daniels neck.

@cbrownjc7633 Год назад
@@Navyman825 Okay, I'm just going to say it, since you misunderstood what I was saying. It's only a spoiler if you know what the phrase I'm about to use means. When I say Daniel's storyline happened in the past, I'm not just talking about the end of IWTV. I'm specifically talking about The Devil's Minion storyline from Queen of the Danmed. *That* whole storyline still happened in the past on the show. The changes just were that Louis was there for it in the show's version of events; and the ending of The Devil's Minion was different in the show than it was in the book obviously given Daniel's state on the show, but it *did* happen. Again, there's a reason Armand was hiding his identity from him. And why Louis kept asking Daniel if he was remembering anything from back then. Louis wasn't just talking about that night of the first interview. There are hints all over S1 of the show that Devil's Minion happened in the past. Showrunner Rolin Jones has also hinted it in his post S1 interviews. Plus the social media things the show has set up for Daniel, particularly his LinkedIn, hint at it having happened in the past too. The Devil's Minion part of Daniel's story wasn't taken out. It still happened. Just in a slightly different way, and with a different ending, given Daniel's state right now. And given Daniel basically disappears from the series after Book 3, it really isn't that major of a change to his storyline doing it this way, since after the events of all that, Daniel doesn't do anything significant in the books again anyway.
@Navyman825
@Navyman825 Год назад
@@cbrownjc7633 Since you went there, according to this story line, when would have Armand turned Daniel into a vampire? Because in this story line the time line is different, and the the first interview, would have been published as a book by now. It will be curious to see how they play this out.

(he was probably like, 'Oh heck nawh, Pass me my cane-sword!')🙄😄lol *Lestat was working on Louis mentally from the first day they met, until the end!... I understand why Louis fell for him. (But we have to remember that Louis was basically forced into the relationship. (under duress, and vampire super powers.) He loves Lestat but he always had resentment for how they got together.

It's going to be interesting to see how the next season proceeds because Lestat isn't in the second half of the book that much. Producers are promising he's in it much more. I'm thinking they'll be telling his take along with the Claudia and Louis storyline. That's all I'll say

The interview was a redo of the original. When Louis sent Daniel the tapes of the interview in 1973, he admitted when they met up again that the first one was not correct, factual, so he wanted to redo. hope that helps.

Let’s just remember that Louis is drinking dead blood from Armand… lore-wise that’s insane!

Not at all, Anne Rice's vampires drink each other's blood a lot in tge books. It's their form of intimacy. Vampire blood is also addictive to humans, so if you know the history between Daniel and Armand, it was a this is even funnier 😂 I wonder if they were testing him.

Not even maybe. Lestat become infinitely powerful drinking Akasha's blood. And is saved by Marious , with his blood. It is only dead Human blood that is the problem.

Ok, you guys have missed so much in the season. 1. This interview is a redo of the original interview in 1975, they discuss that in episode 2. Daniel is the original interviewer, the dream of them meeting in the bar is how they originally met. The story ends in the middle of the book, where they "kill" Lestat and make their escape. The season 2 will be all about Europe/Paris and the Theater of the Vampires and Armand. I am waiting to see how the Louis and Armand story plays out because after what happens in Paris they spend years together, and I think this is what you are seeing now with Armand there with Louis. I have read the Vampire Chronicles, which is all the books, and I am looking forward to seeing how they tell the rest of the story and how Lestat becomes the main player. I am really waiting on the book #3 story, that is going to be the best and cant be done in 1 or two seasons. I do like how in this season they gave easter eggs to the 3rd book, and how one vampire got his name. LOL, and that lestat made a reference to book 2 and book 3, while playing the piano.

I thought this was a weak ending to the season, and I just don't understand why they didn't stop at a different point. The story is also veering so far from the book that I'm frustrated, because Louis and Lestat are seriously perfectly cast, and beautifully performed. But Claudia's arc is frustratingly bad here -- she not only looks 20 years old, we've lost the tragedy of the 'child vampire," and also of the loss of this family as it fractures. Claudia and Louis and Lestat in the books were together for many decades -- here we never get a sense of that at all. I also agree with those who note that the Armand reveal is really fun for those of us who were book readers, and I did love that -- but I'm frustrated at the extended setpieces that are just massive bloodbaths and violence just for the sake of violence. The show is missing so much of the lightness and complexity of the book(s) at this point. And that is definitely shown by the presentation of Lestat, who here is just a flat-out villain, with none of the complexity of the book. Lestat in the book is more than a villain, and the movie did a much better job of showing that. And I wish I could agree with you on Bailey Bass. The overdone accent, the fact that she looks 20, etc. She's just not a good Claudia to me. But I still love Lestat, Louis, Daniel, and the Armand reveal. But looking forward to your reactions next season! Cheers and thanks -- this was so much fun.

The ratings in the 18 to 49 demo are in the tank, 150k? Season 2 hasn't started filming and the release date has been pushed out to 2024 so I am apprehensive about the overall response regarding this series. When AMC fired Chris Rice, I knew there would be problems and with AMC's background subverting their own shows, it gave me an empty feeling. The confidence was so low they only gave them a 7 episode run. It is what it is.

"Interview With the Vampire and Mayfair Witches Are Planning a Crossover" Literally WTF ?!?
@Navyman825

The only cross over could be with the Talamasca, that is it. I hope they do not bring them together in the story, Each one is a story of its own.

@@Navyman825 Well. They aren't each a story of their own, since Rice Herself brought them together in the Novel Merrick,... with Vampires Louis, David Talbot,... Head of the Talamasca and Vampire,... aqnd Merrick Mayfair coming toogether. She intended the storylines to cross. When AMC Brings them together,... they are following the spirit of Anne Rice's wishes. You also forget Louis already knows of the Mayfair witches and mentions them in Season 1. I am eager to see them brought together. Even if it is simply Louis and maybe a couple of other Vampires brought into Mayfair Witches storylines.

@@clarissanavarro2762 Paul did mention them in episode one. I am sure there will be some cross over further down the line. They have to once they introduce Merrick. It will be interesting how all of this comes together after book 3, which is my fav. book. that book was written for its own show.

@@Navyman825 Oh, I know that they crossed over in the Novels,...but it is awesome that they are planning it for the TV show. I have not read any of the novels after Tale of the Body thief, and did not yet read Taltos. But I know that Merrick was a witcch that interacted with the Vampires,... just happy to see it is planned for them to come together.
