The Emperor is a product of his upbringing and the unwillingness of the court to let go of so many ancient and antiquated rules. He may have been the Emperor but, he could not do as he wished and in fact, was the least free person in the palace. Rulers relied on the counsel of those around them, we as the audience are privy to all the going on, but in real life, that would not be the case. Greed and envy will always be the enemy of an Emperor.

@@Skydancer263 Chengxu tried to teach him but he just wouldn't listen....lol that was his biggest failure....those that he listened to had their own agendas...they wanted Chengxu gone because they couldn't manipulate him...they needed him gone so they could control the Emperor. He was too arrogant to listen....Chengxu always told him that he wanted him to be a good Emperor...but he convinced himself that Chengxu was the enemy....he was impulsive...Mingyu even told him that he had to see things clearly...and then figure out a way to change the Imperial court. His power was limited in so many ways...but he never learned how to play the game. He never learned how to bend the courts to his will. Chengxu was a master at bending the will of the court...in the end his biggest regret opened his eyes and allowed him to understand Chengxu's intentions.

@@shontelagrone8713 I still wouldn't attribute all the blame to the Emperor. Not everyone is cut out for that position and he wasn't given a choise, as his father chose him not because he was the best choice. It was done to permanently separate Mingyu and chengxu from being together. Lord knows the prior one was unfit for the title.

@@Skydancer263 oh know...he has his share of blame...but it was his father that royally screwed him over. He chose him because he knew that Chengxu wouldn't sacrifice Mingyu's son for the throne. He was a vindictive a$$. It wasn't enough that he stole the throne from Chengxu in the first place..he wanted to ensure that he would never become the Emperor. The sad part was he was better fit for the job than anyone. Their father knew his sons...and he knew the only one fit to rule was Chengxu. He should've gotten his affairs in order after he was poisoned to ensure that Changxu took his rightful place. The late Emperor was a drain on the nation...his arrogance and ego got in the way. I blame the Empress for being too cowardly to tell him that Mingyu was already engaged to his brother. She forced her into the abyss because she was trying to protect that jackass. He made her life a living hell. His karma was befitting...he suffered with the knowledge that the woman he was obsessed with NEVER loved him. Her heart belonged to his brother. The one thing he wanted so desperately to conquer was unattainable...he died finally knowing the truth.
