I may get to spend a day at a summer camp for preteens, giving them an introduction modular synthesis using VCV rack. Can I show this video as part of the day? I couldn't possibly explain the basics of 1.0 as well!
Thanks for the overview, my little Akai MPKmini does not behave the same if I replicate your patch here, it won't play polyphonic, if I set the polyphony to 4 it only plays every 4th single note?
Al, Just curious. Did you also have 0.62c? I noticed that when selected polyphonic channels, the indicator on the VCO stayed yellow, meaning it was still mono. I also noticed that the output cable was skinny. I ended up renaming my .Rack directory in my home, so I started with a fresh .Rack directory for VCV 1.0, downloaded my 1.0 modules and everything seemed to work fine after that.
1) make sure that your MPKmini can send polyphonic MIDI. That may be it. 2) Right click on the MIDI-CV module and try different polyphonic modes. 3) I've also had strange "only choose one note" issues on occasion. I created a new patch which gave me the default patch and then selected my MIDI instrument and audio output and then it worked. So try starting with a new instance of the default demo patch and test it there. 4) Be sure to turn on and connect your MIDI keyboard before you launch VCV Rack. If you turn it on after then VCV Rack doesn't see the instrument. I'd be interested to know of any of these worked for you.
@@beachfeet6055 Thanks, I did have Rack 0.62 installed. I can only get poly when using the ASplitter module which then sends 4 mono signals to the mixer, but then thats 4 inputs hogged. I will try fresh install.
Al, glad I could help. As an aside, while VCV 1.0 now supports polyphonic cables, keep 8n mind it now up to the modules to use it. VCV, Cult and Blamsoft seem to fully use it. Befaco and Bogaudio do not appear to support polyphony, at least in there current version. That may change. In the module browser look for modules that have the 'polyphonic' tag.
