Another way to improve ride quality is to get AWD. The extra weight eases the ride and stops the car from bouncing around due to less weight of the 2WD version. It worsens fuel economy but on the other hand improves handling in all weather conditions.
+murat baykal Why do you say rear suspension is horrible? asking cuz m considering buying it. Is it because the Torsion beam with no adaptive dampers on papers? have you tried sitting in the back for a ride and tried it?
I have ordered (in France) an Ateca (20/12/2016) and I'm still waiting (01/08/2017). The internet forums (UK, France and others) have, highlighted this problem since the car was first available (or not!) A great car but pin your dealer down to a delivery date and then expect it to change. SEAT needs to get a grip.
Been driving an Ateca 1,5 years now and... I must say the review is very accurate! The rear suspension does bother me a bit, especially at speedbumps, but overall very happy about the car!
Why don't Mat mension that the 4wd versoins get an other rear axle with full independent suspension? That makes the ride a LOT more comfortable. It's the same thing with the Leon. Tdi 184 bhp, Cupra and the awd models get's the multilink rear axle that makes It feels lika a totaly different car to drive!
I have a 1.2 PureTech Active Peugeot 2008 auto. I'm looking at a 1.2 Nissan Qashqai Xtronic Tekna. But now I want a 1.4 Ecotsi Se with 18 plate and auto petrol!
Matt, you say it's based on the tiguan and also say it's a bigger Leon. Leon is a golf equivalent and the t-roc is the golf based suv. So it's a bit confusing it me and will appreciate your clarification on its size.
I have tested the SEAT Ateca 2.0TDI FR Sport, I could feel every imperfection on the road. I wouldn't want Torsion Beam suspension so it seems only the 4 drive version's have Multi Link.
I really like this new Seat SUV. A new car is always refreshing the whole segment and this particular one seems to be a good choice for reasonable amount of money.
My wife went from a Leon to an Ateca and I can't understand the logic behind the cup holders!! Whats the point in having two if you can only put one drink in at a time!!
I thought the Ateca like the Leon and the Golf had a mixture torsion and fully independent suspension. I guess if you're someone who wants a good basic hatchback with a higher driving position and some nice technological touch then the Ateca sounds like it is an excellent buy. I do see how the VAG hierarchy is evident comparing this to the Tiguan. If you're someone who appreciates details like soft touch door plastics, reclining seats, power sockets in the boot and three zone climate control then the Tiguan is better. Very interested to see how the Kodiaq compares, as Skoda seem to be quite apparently stepping on VW's toes with their offerings.
Yep i agree. You should never drink and drive! Joke asside, all cars have cooled glove boxes now so you can just screw your bottle and put it there in horizontal position, these cup holders are made for coffe/mcdonalds cups more than bottles. I never like putting stuff there because they are never deep enough in any car i had (even american). 2nd row is different because people there can drink and be driven :P
Yes, is funny how busy test driver all is about cop holders 🤣 Maybe they need drink much water because they are nervous when they drive? I am more busy about noise from tires and engine, and if the car is good on the road in high speed, and the seat is okay
If you have a portable air compressor, you need to plug it in someplace to reach the rear wheels. Having a 12V outlet in the cargo area is very useful for that.
I cant decide between 2018 CX5 2.0 Manual or this 1.4 TSI Ateca. What car is faster and drives better? I live in the Netherlands, so all straight roads. I like the exterior of the CX5, it looks much "newer" then the Ateca. The Ateca on the other hand has a nicer interior with Android Auto.
Back seat charging too. My laguna had on in the boot, and I had a plug converter plugged in and a power strip plugged into it, so the kids could all charge there phones/tablet, and my laptop, when we traveled through Europe. I own a gtc now, and have zero 12v sockets in the rear or boot, and we missed them in the summer traveling through Spain. So had to buy a hand full of usb power banks. Which was actually turned out a great way to do it.
You know, a lot of people wonder why I go into silly detail on this stuff. Fact is these things are often more important to most actual consumers than stuff like steering feel blah blah blah that many reviewers blabber on about. Especially for these types of cars.
carwow yes, it's the little things that you don't think about that actually mean alot day to day. I got a 2015 GTC SRI 165, the one I test drove had an sunglass's holder, it was 14 model, the one that was delivered doesn't have one. You don't know how much that annoys me. I wouldn't of got it if I'd of knew, seriously. Little thighs count.
Could it be the case that Spain actually spent the EU money to make roads safer? Still, you're right in saying that this might have actually required employing some people ;) Love your reviews btw! Please, please, review the Citroën Spacetourer XS !
@@patriciosoirefman838 I sold it after a year and a half because it was a 5 seater and we wanted a 7 seater. Good thing is that I sold it at a same price as I bought it for, I still miss that car tbh but I now have the next best Seat Terraco, its a 7 seater SUV, it has the same internal dashboard with more extras & add-on features than VW Allspace had to offer. Despite Seat being the part of same VW Group as VW cars which means they are almost same underneath the skin but VW's quality and post sales service is better than Seat's but of course VW is a bit pricey. If you are confused between Seat & VW in specific then I suggest you book a test drive and compare like-forlike add-ons and features.
Yes, in Spain all of us works on roads thanks to the European funds, that's why we have good roads without speding any money and you don't... Now i understand everything, thanks for the explanation Mat.
hey Matt, thanks for the review! been waiting for this! :-) how does it compare with the Kadjar (excellence vs signature bose edition) ? i'm torn between both!!
Koreans offer a 7 year warranty nowadays as mentioned, that's a huge selling point for practical cheap SUV buyers. 3 years isn't even worth mentioning.
Mario Losberg Not from what I've seen. As cars get more complicated and service costs rise, warranty matters more and more. When a 3 year old Mercedes fails and the repair costs are a quarter of the car value, you'll agree.
I believe you are highly mistaken and you have no idea of servicing cars. Mercedes parts are usually cheaper than most korean/japanese car brands, except Nissan. The 7 year warranty is a myth as it only covers certain parts of the car (non-breakable ones), whilst the engine/injection are 2 to 5 years in cars. I've paid the extended 5 years warranty on my car and they charged me about 1K for that. Nobody will give you 7 years on a diesel/petrol engine as you can smoke it out with some 300k kms and claim repairing. Normally, cars fails past the 200 kms range, german cars - 300 kms, except BMW, they fail before because of aggressive driving.
I think the design is very good, competitive pricing also. But what about the engines? VAG is in quite a mess right now with the diesels and i read that the 1.4 like the 1.2 petrols are quite unreliable. Did they change something to make them reliable?
This was the car I drove at the driving school. It was okay, but the worst thing for me was it wouldn't shift into first gear smoothly. Like how hard is it to make a smooth gearbox today?
This car/suv has no independent rear suspension. Instead it has a torsion beam which gives it the suspension characteristics of a tractor going over a speed ramp. If you want to launch yourself into outerspace everytime you go over a bump than this is the car for you, if not keep away from this and anything with torsion beam rear suspension. Just saying.
This crossover in my country full optioned is 700 pounds more expensive than a tucson which there is hardly any option on it and weighs 200 kilos more, shitty interior design and quality, full optioned ateca has, LED headlights, 360 cameras, electronic tailgate, alcantara seats, BLIS, full link, automatic emergency braking, and keyless entry so whoever buys the highest trim tuscon over the full optioned ateca is just mad
Check SEAT's website (Spanish). Looks a good price until you configure it, then virtually everything a modern car should have is a very expensive optional extra. I'll stick with a Korean or Japanese car for my next purchase.
Why pay 10000-15000 Euros more for tiguan/vw or A5/Audi ???much the same cars like Seat and Skoda. 🧐Skodas suv/cars kodiaq/karoq are best in test ,and they have good prices to👍 Same german teknologi in all off this cars even made in same factorys ateca, karoq,Audi A3/A5,kodiaq.
Why did you closed the back door with your hands!!!!! It should close electrically by pressing button behind the back seats, you sure that's 2018 model !?!
Hm...are you sure Ateca have "torture" rear suspension? I was at car dealer today and they did not know about it :) and i did not find any information on seat web page.
You should be cast for Top Gear. Very helpful and amusing reviews. You're a very entertaining person, loved watching you on the other channel before you started this one, actually followed you over. Thanks for the reviews, and keep up the good work.
You should not go off topic speaking about the EU founds. What you should think and make people think about, is what it is happening with your money, because your highways and rail network, have a huge margin to be improved. Engineer working for HE (Highways England) and Network Rail.
