In this video I go into detail on how to replace the seat heater pad on this 2017 Ford Explorer. If you need any more information leave me a comment.

I'm trying to grow my channel. I have ADHD so I tend to have lots of projects going on. I enjoy making how to repair videos and vlogging. I also have a rental property and 20 acres that I have to maintain. I'd enjoy making videos about all that. Let me know if you would enjoy that as well.
I left my job of 16 years in May of 2021. There were many reasons for leaving. I may make a video about that but in the mean time, I'm doing a lot of work for customers I've helped for years and new ones that I'm meeting. I also do work for a customer that has a car collection and restores cars.
I'm also kicking around the idea of starting an online store selling car parts and repair assistance.
I'd really appreciate your input on the kind of videos everyone would like to see.

Thank you for this incredibly helpful video. Followed along while doing this job myself. One tip that helped me - a heat gun on low helped me remove the old pad without taking off any of the foam, ensuring a smooth surface for the new pad. Although it did leave the adhesive on the foam.

Great video I have a 2020 explorer st heated and air cooled seats I smelled some burnt when I got the car back from body shop a deer landed in my grille when I got the car back I smelled it no code just got the car inspected no codes came up just crappy rear cam recall the 3 other seats are functioning well just the driver seat isn’t warming but air cool works HELP !! Thanks for your time

I’ve had both heated seats burn out from faulty thermostats. New pads were cheap.

Man! awesome video, I been looking to see if I could find the part number for the heating pads on my 2017 Ford F250 Lariat but I haven't any luck. The passenger side bottom pad is going out. The one on the back rest heats up more than the one on the bottom. The driver side its okay but I feel like the same issue is happening where the back is warmer than the bottom but on the passenger seat is very noticitable.

Great video. I’m currently dealing with the dealership and the Ford ESP people trying to get this covered. They keep trying to order the whole seat cushion assembly and not just the element so the Ford ESP guys don’t want to cover it & Ford wants 700 bucks. Do you have the part number for just the element for the driver side bottom seat and the seat back so I can do it myself. The VIN # is 1FM5K7D86KGA04634

Great video. Will be doing this soon on my wife's. 2017 Explorer XLT 3.5. Same situation passenger works fine driver side does not but lights light up on the dash. Do you have part number? Only has heated seats. I've also seen these that already have cushion with grid on them. Any experience with those? What does plug look like under seat? I want to do resistance test beforeI take it apart. Thank you!

FB5Z-14D696-A for teh heating pad only, if you are doing the whole pad the p/n is FB5Z-78632A22-E which goes for $1000 btw, thats not a typo

Hey this was a great video. I have a 2017 explorer sport. Both front seats heated and cooled, neither work on driver seat. Buttons light up indicating on, but nothing. Passenger side both work perfect. Any ideas? Thanks!

Your seats are called climate controlled seats. They use a TED thermal electric device to heat the air. A fan push’s air through the TED then through ducting into the seat cushion. The seat back has its own fan and Ted and seat bottom has its own fan and Ted. Hard to say why both are not working.

I have a 2016 equal boost Mustang premium. I already changed the Control module underneath the passenger seat. It is still not working the lights. Come on on the -, but no heated or cooled seat. Can you please tell me what the ohms should be for that? Particular car 2016 Mustang ecoboost premium. And as well if I did change the module and I repaired the plug because it meland the power still shows. On the -, what could it possibly be? Thank you

I usually remove the seat. I felt that the average person may not have the tools to remove the seat so I did the job in vehicle. Funny thing is. Fords workshop manual shows to do the repair with the seat in the vehicle.

the lower cushion is not too bad in the vehicle however the seat back I probably recommend removing the whole seat @@showmerepair

Great video, man. Tested my 17 Explorer XLT driver bottom cushion (inop for some time now) and it tested OL. Just to be sure I tested the passenger side to make sure I did it right and it tested 1.2 ohms. Hope that sounds right. So 2 questions: Is it true that the seat back element won't work either if the bottom is bad? Before I repair mine...is it possible to clip the seat cover back on to the cushion BEFORE putting it back on the seat? Just looks like those clip rails are a pain in tight areas. Minus the j clips holding it to the seat frame of course. Great step by step vid! Will refer back to it when I do the repair!

Yes the seat back heater element will not work if the seat bottom element is bad. If I remember correctly, yes you can attach the cover to the cushion then install on seat

Great video. Need to do the same to mine but I cannot find the correct P/N for it. The part number on the cable for the heated seat pad (FB53-14D698) does not exist, plenty of 696 but is it A,B,C etc. can you help identify?

The climate controlled seats do not use a heating element. They have a fan that blows air over a TED Thermal electric device. The TED heats the air that then flows through vents in the seat pad. Does the seat back work and pad does not work? Or both seat back and seat bottom do not work?

@@showmerepair Thanks that makes sense as I was confused when looking for heating connector cable, do you know what to check for resistance or voltage on the connector pins if the TED, or i will compare that of the working side !

@@showmerepair Both the seat back and seat bottom do not work, the cooling also does not work, I am suspecting the power is not being delivered even though the driver console control shows its working.

I finally got around to working on the seats. I have bad pads in the back rest and in the seat I was wondering if you could help me out with part numbers it’s a 2016 Ford explorer. Also I see you went into the computer. Do I need to have the codes cleared or will the heater start working after the pads are replaced?

You mentioned the models with heated and cooled seats. I have a 2017 Limited Explorer with both heated and cooled. Same problem, driver side does not work but the lights turn on. You said there could be more issues than just the heat element. Do you have a video related to this issue?

Sorry I do not have a video on the heat and cooled seats. There is a Thermal Electronic Devise TED on the seat bottom and seat back. They have a fan mounted on the TED. The fan can fail and the TED can fail. I’ve seen the filter on the fan dirty enough that the climate controlled seats do not work.

Awesome video i subd your channel for this repair and the vids i seen on your 6.0 powerstroke. I was wondering in your video you said get a hold of you for help on the heater element. I just bought a 18 explorer i have the same symptoms heat on back but not on the seat cushion. Forscan shows short to batter or open. Is there a way you can give me a part number for that element. I dont want to take the seat apart twice. I can give you the vin number in a private message if you need it.

Can you take the bottom seat cushion out with the cover still on it? I have a 2011 Explorer and 2014 Explorer. The seat cover in the 2014 is damaged, and I want to swap the whole seat cushion and cover together.

Your seat may have a heat pad in the seat so it would not use the fan. You said you have a 2018 ford limited. What model?

@@showmerepair Thanks for the quick reply. It's the '18 Explorer Limited V6. I see the fan in the seat bottom and it feels like it is running on cool mode but not fast like the fan in the seat back ( I can't hear it). It doesn't feel like either back or bottom are cooling though on pass or driver sides. I can definitely hear the fans in the seat back on bot sides, they are loud and change speed on demand. I asked about the fan in the seat bottom if its working in both heat and cool modes because 90 days ago I had both seat heaters "fixed "under ext. warranty by Ford dealer and they may have butterfingered the cooling feature for both seats while making the repair. Neither side cools even with the fans on high speed and only the seat back fans are audible. I think I'll pull out the seats entirely and do some bench testing unless you have a diagnostic I might try. I did see one video on RU-vid that was helpful in understanding how the seat cooling works but not when the are on and off. Yet, another reason to do the work yourself. Thanks.

Would this be the same for a 2017 f350 dually? My drivers side seat heater died last winter. Dash button lights up and you momentarily hear the click under the dash when it kicks on, but only for a few seconds and you'll hear it trip off. Passenger side works fine

Very well could be. I just looked in the wiring diagram. The connector looks the same. It may be easier to get to on the truck.

I am trying to repair the same issue for a friend with a 2018 Explorer XLT, but I can't find the correct lower pad, or a stand-alone heating element I can install. It has heated seats, not cooled. Can you assist with the Ford P/N I need? I have the VIN, it's been no help. Thank in advance.

I have a 2017 Explorer XLT 4WD. Neither front seats will heat. The lights turn on, but no heat. I was not able to locate the control module. The fuse is good. What should I be looking for?

Get the Forscan tool to determine if you have any DTS codes as a starter...the HVAC module is behind the hvac controls in the center stack

If the bottom is not working it will stop the back heater from operating

I have 2017 f150 I like to replace bottom cushion. Problem is truck is equipped with heated seats and cool seats. How much is it harder dealing with cooling cushion? Do I have to take complete seat out or can I do what you just did? Thanks

Heated and cooled seats do not have a pad like the heated seats. Your seat is actually called climate controlled seat. You have something else going on.

You can not put a pad in place on yours. Yes air passes through the cushion. You’ll need someone to diagnose what has failed.

Oh I thought you were having issues with the climate control seat. I’d imagine you should still be able to get a new cushion. Yes it is very similar to the removal and install I did in the video. Sorry for the confusion.
