I am surprised at how many were still planning on driving their vehicles, when they couldn't even walk to their vehicle! What the heck?! I am in Seattle
RedCedar: years ago I lived outside of Seattle. I remember getting snow and having the whole city stop. And that was with only a couple inches of snow. I am from Minneapolis. Mn and we get tons of snow.
You're smart. Almost same age and the other night I took one step out the door and down I went. Hard! Been in bed most of the weekend. I think I pulled a muscle in my right hip.
@@di4085 Glad you are alright and nothing is broken.. @@estelleschneider9033 on Monday I went swimming and it really did loosen me up because getting out of bed was very much a challenge. I'm getting more sore again so I think I'm going to have to make a visit to the chiro.
I would say the majority of them no where important. If you have a job that values their employees they will tell you to stay home but especially if the state or the city is telling you to stay off the roads be obedient. Don't go to the convenience store or thinking that you just might be able to get to where you're going. Use your common sense please people. It's not worth endangering your life or someone else's.
That was my question! If you have a boss demanding you try to drive in that, you need to find another job. Even the fire fighters had to crawl across the street! 😄
From someone who lives in a northern state and works in the snow removal industry it’s very sad to see how unprepared the city of Seattle was. A little salt and sand during and after the rain would have made a world of difference. I hope no one was seriously injured
There was one day, weeks maybe before this, where it froze in Seattle and all the plows were out and everything was salted. I was surprised by how prepared they were. The real storm comes and not a lick of salt, the plows were too late and struggled against the ice sheets. Lol our whole parking lot was a thick sheet of ice.
Seattle is in temperate rainforest area. It rarely happens so the city doesn't have a stand-by team to do this. Stay home unless you work in the ER basically.
We'll...it was quite humbling wasn't it?! 😆 I think we need storms like these to wake us up, make us feel alive and remember what's important in life. Teamwork, playfulness and out of the box thinking are all you need!
This happened to me once when I arrived home at my apt. building after grocery shopping. (The ice glaze happened while I was out). I made it to within feet of the door and fell. After repeated tries, I could not get to the door. I looked around and saw someone standing in their window watching me fall repeatedly. They never came to help me or even open the freaking door for me. It was really maddening. I had to wait until someone left the building and offered their assistance.
@naomisgram1 I've bought her 2 different raincoats. The last few times it's been raining (lightly), she's been better about going out. She's a rescue, and a senior dog (16), but we've had her for 5 years now, so she knows that if necessary I'll pick her up and take her out under the trees at the edge of the yard (her "poop zone"). She also has boots like the dog in the video, and she's consented to wear them a couple of times, but she's not very fond of them.
My cousin grew up in Idaho and Utah just like me. We both knew how to handle snow. But he said that when he moved to Seattle, it's very different. The hills everywhere make a tiny amount of snow or ice dangerous
😂 Reminded me of my first year of college before transferring and at the next one during the following year. I think my first university was the only school open that icy day. When we had ice at my second university, the university was smart to cancel classes. Few that far south had experience facing icy weather conditions. But my hometown friends and I were terrible, stealing some cafeteria trays, going sledding; it keeps your clothes intact. 😉 I also remember the early 80s, when we could ice skate on the grass lawn! Ice and snow are totally different. I thought Coloradans knew the difference, but boy was I wrong (at least where I was stationed). I ended up teaching a safety class to fellow engineers on the difference between snow and ice safety practices. 😅 There are shoes and shoe accessories that prove helpful (spiked shoes, as mentioned). God bless these poor folks. I hope they got through this weather without injury.
@@Spinus- That area is not equipped for streets to be salted/sanded as they usually don't have this weather. It's possible that the major roads and highways would be the only ones cleared of ice.
My question is why do people think they can even get anywhere on a day like that? They can’t get off their front porch much less drive! I knew better than to venture out 😅 lots of bruises and smashed cars, and dogs thinking “what the heck?”
Okay for one they live in Seattle they never get ice only rain so it's all new to them, even though it's apart of our daily life we get it every year ,but for them it's a new thing they don't know.. so just enjoy it and laugh your butts off because it is quite hilarious to see 😂😂😂
@@terryeaston5311 true, we don’t get ice like that very often, but we do get snow a couple of times a year. It is a pretty funny video though 😊 our problem here is that it’s not flat, but almost all hills, quite a few of them big and steep, so makes it more difficult.
I live in Buffalo, NY, famous for its lovely winter weather. The winds blowing across the Great Lakes create really treacherous conditions in the winter. During a memorable wind/ice/snow storm about 45 years ago when I was a young woman working in an office downtown,, the conditions were so extreme that ropes were stretched across Main St. at various points, anchored by parking signs with large cement holders. I recall attempting to cross the street, hanging onto the rope for dear life while also hanging onto the person in front of me. It was a bit like an icy conga line. Ice storms are the worst! So dangerous!
In one way you feel sorry for them .but oh dear i was in hysterics my neighbour rang up to see if i was okay she thought i was crying.i was but with laughter.hope nobody was hurt tho.we have gritter trucks in the UK but they only put it on the roads for transport.
Those who are not used to icy conditions, there is a neat product, elastic braces with tiny spikes one puts on shoes. It allows walking, even jogging on ice and icy snow. It's important to remove them when entering a place with smooth hard floor, such as grocery store as that's when it becomes sketchy to walk with them on.😁
It looked to me like most of them weren't wearing shoes meant for ice. But when you live in a climate where it is normal, you get pretty talented at navigating the ice and snow, lol. I used to live in Montana, and I even was able to drive up and down hilly, icy streets without a problem. Don't know how I did it, now though. 😅

States in the US that experience this type of weather often, usually have footwear such as you mention. Rain that freezes on the ground like this is especially dangerous, some snow mixed in gives at least a little traction.
Oh those poor people..doubt the dogs were too bothered..but what an absolute blast..I've not laughed so much in ages..there are some wonderful potential Olympic ice athletes..fantastic freestyle..I almost lost it when one poor gent ended up on his bottom sliding around a corner at great speed...I do hope he was OK and was seen again by his loved ones..if my village became like that I'd have to stay in and film my neighbours too..Great stuff..good sports..
Not fun at all my friend ! Some of those falls on this video, could be dadly. Fall on Ici stairs , uhhhh, I wouldnt like to see anyone . I am so sorry for those people. For two days I didnt come out from the house. I am not taking a chance ! Too dangereux .
The recent ice storm that hit Seattle and Vancouver BC caught both cities off guard. Amazingly, my small suburb of Vancouver was totally prepared. The salt and sand trucks were out on the main streets before daylight hit. I waited to drive for one day, otherwise it was cautiously ok.
Haha omg this reminds me of my days in the ER. We always prayed we weren't scheduled on these icy days, because I'm telling you it's just a never ending line up of fractured bones, and a few black eyes to boot! Lol 🏥👩⚕️ ❄️😂
Oh boy, it is 6 am and I am laughing! I needed to laugh. I am going to save this video so I can watch it again whenever I want to laugh. I’ve walked on icy streets like that here. Same reaction. I was on my knees, crawling, sliding to work. Crazy.
I do hope nobody was seriously hurt, but I have to admit i had a good chuckle over this. Everybody seemed to take it all in their stride (pardon the pun) even the corgi in its booties. Well done Seattleites
I live in Seattle for almost 30 years. This was the worse ice storm I have ever experienced. I attempted to walk to a grocery store that is 2 blocks away, and was holding my self by bush branches, street signs... and only made it accross the driveway. My attempt failed and I had the hardest time walking back into the house. People who don't live in Seattle seem not to understand that our streets are steep, the city is large, and only arterial routes get sanded and ploughed... if so... So, even the smallest of snow can be a headache and imobilizes the entire city for several days.
I watched the guys video who's out walking to help people earlier and it was hilarious. The firefighters came to help two wrecked vehicles and could only slide down hill to help. Never in my life 🤣🤣🤣
I love how some were making the most of the ice. Having fun. Loads of people using different ways to get around. Hats off to them who succeeded. I was a bit worried though that someone might have slid down to where the cars were driving at the bottom. Overall a fun video.
😱 I can stop laughing! It's the best! I am going to save this video. It's awesome!👍😆. Thanks for making and loading up the video. The music is perfect. This video should wind an Emmy! Btw, I am from Seattle but have been in Southern CA for the winter for two months now and we are dealing with the flood now. I am going batto Seattle next week. I love the snow and the rain...I wish I were there during those few icy days. 😜
I live in Oregon now. We had a couple of days like this a while back. I was able to take the pooch to do her job, but had to get on all fours to get back to the front door. @ 77 I just couldn’t take a chance falling.
One of those days in oregon years back I went sledding on my dads old 50s or 60s sled (metal skates) down a very steep neighborhood hill (one of the streets in hillsdale, goes to George himes park, very beautiful, please visit for me as I no longer live there) and nearly broke my leg LOL it was a BLAST though! If I die, at least I died having fun 🙃 take good care! If you go there, nearby is baker and spice with excellent bread and baked goods!
I had to download this video because it really made me laugh until I was crying! Sorry for the pain those people experienced, but thanks for this compilation!

I doubt many people in Seattle have sand and salt for winter ice. The Midwest and New England states usually have it for sidewalks, and in the car trunk in case they need it while driving.
