Actor John McLaim portraying the ghost of
Dexter Horton in these two :30 television ads
from '81 for the former Seattle-First National Bank
in Washington State
en.wikipedia.or...
TV's 'Spirit of Seafirst' would first appear in a
topical past, then he'd vanish after giving advice
in the present day -
*note the 'sting vault-closing' sounder
and v/o announcer (unknown) on their
logo-end for the 2nd ad with boats.
RADIO commercials during that time - also mentioned Horton, along with a well-produced
and finely-orchestrated theme song:
"..For something new in banking
there's only one place to go -
- the bank Dexter Horton built
We're presently looking for ANY of these radio spots
in any audio form - contact us if you find

My memories are all mixed up. I always thought Dexter Horton was the guy who touted Washington Mutual and said "..the friend of the family, heh-heh-heh..." in a sinister voice as he faded away. Did both banks use phantoms as spokesmen? Did no one comment on what a terrible symbol that was for a financial institution? Am I the only one who had nightmares about bearded men in bowler hats wandering through our homes at will?
