ALSO, the "underground boxing ring" murder occurred at a construction site on Madison Street, two blocks away - NOT INSIDE THE PARK!!! Halprin, who is in his 80's and still working, was consulted on the plant material that was recently placed in the new plantings at the park on the Upper and Main Plazas.
I don't know who you are, and what date this posted, but you need to get your facts straight. For one thing, the park was built BEFORE the Convention Center. And, yes, there WAS crime there, but infrequently.
Every time I hear someone talking about this park, you would think it was exactly like Central Park at night!!! The city, and others, have invested a lot of time and money to improve the park by removing troublesome vegetation that made hiding spots and to improve lighting by removing shadows made by said vegetation from the existing lighting.
