I don't feel that luck is the main problem, but more the inability to take advantage of the few chances they were handed. i didn't understand it then any more than I do now. While it's not clear what will remedy the team's difficulties (not sure about a coach change for instance) I am encouraged that the Kraken management is ready and willing to take drastic measures to improve the team and change its fortunes. Looking forward to the new coach and other (I hope) improvements. GO KRAKEN!
Yeah, luck was definitely not the main factor for the struggle. I agree that it's good to see that management and ownership is going to be active in trying to make improvements.
I believe you make your own luck. This team was just not having fun playing. The poor effort the last half of the season, players body language was unenthusiastic to say the least for a lot of games. The constant shuffling of lines I’m sure made it hard to gain any continuity or consistency. And what they did to McCann was completely confusing. He was literally a man without a line, didn’t they have him on the 4th line for a few games ? Just bizarre. Yamamoto was obviously in Dave’s doghouse I really didn’t think he played all that bad when he got an opportunity which wasn’t very often. Last year was an outlier much like the 2001 mariners a bunch of players playing above their bubble gum card. This team is struggling to score just like year one.
McCann was on pace for close to 40 before he was switched to Center. He can perform there but he is a winger through and through. Hes production plummeted when he was put between the dots. Unfortunate..
Good point and again I'm not going to blame anyone scoring nearly 30 goals while getting paid just 5.5mill. McCann has been great for the Kraken in all three years.
I asked this on a previous video and never got a reply. I pay for ESPN+. with the Kraken going to Amazon prime now so I need to have Amazon prime to watch them play or can I stay on ESPN+?? I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't know. None of the forums can answer that question
As far as this video goes. I gotta say I'm HIGHLY ENCOURAGED by Hakstol being canned. I didn't like the hire from day one. I firmly believe that in the NHL you need a coach who has emotion, and will fight for you. This team like I'm year 1 had ZERO FIGHT. It takes a RIDICULOUS hit on Beniers that nearly broke his neck by Cole "The Turtle" Sillinger and another Potential neck breaker on Dunn from Marcia Popsicle in Calgary for this team to show it's fangs. It should NOT TAKE a near life threatening hit on a teammate for you to drop the gloves. I absolutely believe that the orders to not fight and to relax came from Mr Stoneface Dave Hakstol. NO NO NO that's not what this team needed. They needed the ability to stand up for themselves and they need their coach behind them to do it. He just wasn't. And even the Leah Hexstall goes to Bat for you on National TV during a game. Your job is over period point blank. Dave may be a great hockey mind but he's more suited to a assistant or associate coach. He's not a good HC. If he was then Philly never would have let him go
I do agree they need to have a little more fight and toughness as a team. You can't afford to have your Top Defensemen be the guy that goes to fight players after a bad hit. I think Kartye might be playing into that role a little bit but we'll see.
Faceoffs tend to be more play specific than a team thing. Some teams are better but mostly because they have players who are better at them. As for the Kraken Beniers is young and younger players tend to struggle with NHL faceoffs. Meanwhile with the rest of the team there just isn't really anyone who is particularly good at faceoffs (Bellemare is but he was injured for most of the season and probably won't be back). Coaching can help, the Kraken were actually pretty good early this last season at it which I think Bellemare had a lot to do with but for whatever reason some players just happen to have that unique talent and others don't.
