"We’re heading to washington for a tour of a historic mansion, that currently happens to be the most expensive home on the market in Seattle.
Known as the Sam Hill mansion, it’s been renovated to perfection to blend its old world charm with modern design. One of the most stunning features is the rooftop terrace where you can take in the lake views"

Wow! Walked by this house for years, always wondered what it looked like inside.

This is actually one of those RARE moments when a vintage home ends up looking perfectly at ease with it's modernization. Why, how? First, the construction itself was done with a SUPER modern, forward-thinking deco influence originally. Notice the façade's typical early 20th century straight hard lines with little detail, notice the fireplace mantles, completely stylized from a neo-classical concept. This house was built by and for someone who obviously wanted to feel AHEAD of their time. In these instances this type of BOLD ultra-modern revamping WORKS. Whoever did this house had awesome intuitive sensibility in the renovation process. I'll dare say they channeled the whim and wishes of the original owner(s) had they been alive today, seeking a total home make-over. I myself LOVE antiques and would have thrown in MORE high-end vintage, streamlined biedermeier antiques, MORE slick modern deco pieces, and more colorful rugs to blend with the contemporary furnishings, but I can't deny it: This one looks gorgeous as is. #ForTheLoveOfDesign

Would have been better to bring in modern touches that did not ruin the home. Irreparable damage done. Too much history lost.

James Cyrus 15 mil is not that much for the higher tier of the buying market in the US. Any tv celebrity or high-end corporate attorney/insurance mogul could shell out dough for this purchase even if financed, and it could end up being a gay buyer. "Mr Starbucks" would be looking at the 25-30 mil range, with 15 being at the bottom option, likely as a cash offer.

Not the most iconic. There are a number near Volunteer Park , and of course the former Japanese embassy off West Highland Drive.

My wife and I used to walk by this house all the time, we always wondered what it was like inside.... this was years and years ago though. Its awful what they did to it, wish we could have seen it back in the day before it was ruined.

I thought the home looked great, although I did keep wondering to myself "am I ok with them modernizing this classic house?"
@lunahahnemann7885
@lunahahnemann7885 6 лет назад
Robert Mitchell it's early 20th century classic. This is one of those homes originally built to look forward-thinking at that time, which lends itself well for this type of renovation.

By far not the most expensive house in Seattle.

"Restoration". You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. There is preservation, restoration, and renovation. This is renovation.

Taking a beautiful historical house and ruining it with modern "renovations" . Disgusting . If they wanted a modern house why not buy a modern house????

Maybe the inside was not well preserved? Sometimes the beautiful old houses are in really bad shape and all one can do is to save the shell.

Why, oh why would you make a beautiful and historical house modern??? You ruined it's charm and you might as well have just knocked it down and made a modern house in its place. It's a shame ... damn shame!!!

What, no CInema, or Movie Theatre, in a film-loving city such as Seattle IS?

What a disaster. This beautiful house has been completely destroyed. It’s a complete mess, nothing elegant or graceful about it now, except the structure of the building which hasn’t been destroyed. Elsewhere in Europe, a house of this importance would have had a preservation order on It. Meaning you couldn’t rip the heart out of it. New money will enjoy this house, having no appreciation for the beautiful house it once was.

I don't like it. AA doesn't feel right.. It doesn't look right. I am all for restoration in a little bit of modeling zation, However that interior is too severe compared to the outside of the house. That's Industrial look is far too severe on the insight, Just doesn't fit the historic beauty of the outside, I have to keep it real Sorry
@finehomemadewine
@finehomemadewine 6 лет назад
It is not industrial design, just "modern". But of course, it is far, far from that classical facade. Well, I guess no one lives like that anymore.

@@finehomemadewine I can see your point. However the kitchen As well as the dining Room area, Just remind me of being in a restaurant in New York City. It lacks warmth and coziness That I personally prefer. However to each his own
