Tilikum the orca has died after more than two decades at SeaWorld Orlando, where he gained notoriety for killing a trainer in 2010. It comes as SeaWorld San Diego closes down its theatrical orca shows. Carter Evans reports.
Doing tricks and not getting fish, what did they expect? Who would work for free? I’m not saying him killing her was okay but he was clearly angry by the injustice and rightfully so. Also they act like these animals are vegetarian, should have never been In each other’s paths.
@@ThePeaceofWildThings Funny I barley fit in a tub but they have enough room to swim around, terrible comparison. I'm not arguing Seaworlds ethics at this point. I'm arguing your intelligence or lack there of.
"HE Mutilated that poor girl." That poor whale snapped for a reason. Keeping wild animals out of their natural habitat will no doubt make them go cabin fever.
@pipsqueak 2008 um no...they're not endangered in the wild at all. sea world steals them from their natural habitat and forces them into a life of misery. how about you actually do research before making claim.
“That poor girl” yes I understand and I do feel bad for the trainer who’s life was taken but let’s be honest those poor whales they don’t deserve to be held captive and forced to preform just for money.
Jesus ..they aren't mutually exclusive and the anthropomorphism of these animals is creating people with sick priorities. The whale stuff sucks and is bad. But that "woman" is your fellow human, and I wonder if you'd feel the same if it was your friend/family. Do better that's gross
Its sad that she died, but she knew the risks and putting her life at risk. Whales are not meant to be held in tanks and trained for shows. They are wild creatures that belong in the ocean. That whale suffered abuse for many years for them to make money.
Yes. I remember feeling almost a relief for him when I heard he passed. He’s no longer suffering. I can only imagine the agony he was in for far too many years
@Marc Woolward no offense but just try to imagine that you are in your school toilet the smallest one living in that tiny space for 33 years 🤫and you can't eat that much 🥰
RIP Tilly. I’m sorry you were captured, stuck in a little pool and forced to perform for entertainment purposes. You were a beautiful creature! And will be forever a sea world legend🐋💙😔😭
My 6th grade teacher showed us the blackfish documentary. We had a field trip to the zoo later that year. Everyone in my class refused to see the animals and sat in the food area during the trip. It affected how we saw the world even though we were only 12.
But SeaWorld is not a zoo it's a themepark, Don't base what you saw in blackfish defy what you see somewhere else zoos and SeaWorld are 2 different places
A Male orca does not live up to 100 years.... 30 years is the average... He lived the same years he would have in the wild... do your research before typing
He should have been in the wild, and died where he should have lived. Orcas are not for our entertainment. They are living intelligent beings that deserve to live in the wild.
It’s been a long time but I miss you tilly we are fighting for justice. We are protesting against this situation. They tried to block out everything in the last but we will never forget you! I love you miss you and will never forget you. Love, Kelsey!
RIP Tilly. Now you can be free and live your life in heaven the way it should have been lived on earth. I'm sorry you were held in a pool all your life. That's not the life they are supposed to live
Listen some of them actually has no idea how cruel they are!! Like at first all i wanted in my life was to go see orca at sea world cs i thought they keep it safe & healthy so that we won't have to go see it in the ocean..bt after watching some you tube video ..i came back to senses.. Now i am aggressively against any marine animal captivity ..so what we should do is raise our voice ..do protest in front of those sea world & actually try to make people see the pain & sadness in it!! Okay?
I was shocked when I found out this still happens, I don’t understand how it’s still legal when there’s so much evidence now more than ever on how bad this is
Tbh I never wanted to go but I was forced to go with my parents. They are blind asf and think that going to places like that are fun when really, it's a dark place for the animals.
@@kairi5792 same. My friend was like leta go to sea world. It's been my dream for 5 years now. I showed him blackfish. I hope he changes his mind. SeaWorld is so horrible
@@vic7939 His attacks have nothing to do with the sperm. It's like saying his sperm produces aggressive orcas, that makes no sense. Any orca would be aggressive under those circumstances. He basically is a prisoner held against his own free will, which would to be free. Have you seen the beginning of how they caught him and separated him from his mother??? Have you seen the movie? Orcas swim for so many miles, and what they have done by capturing orcas is horrible. I don't blame the orca for attacking the so-called trainers, because that is not how an orca should ever live.
The fact that they know it's wrong and continue to exploit these animals to death should tell you all you need to know, they treat these animals as if they are objects, not living, breathing animals that feel pain, emotionally and physically. Absolutely disgusting. These beautiful animals deserve so much more than this. This is f*cked up and everyone knows it, we need to inform people of this, stop supporting Sea World. And maybe when it's gone we can try to heal the damage caused to these whales and prevent more of this.
Yes, and that's exactly what happens to cow calves when they're separated from their mothers and get to live aproximately 6 months before they're slaughtered so that people can eat veal.
You put people in a tank with killer whales 🐳 what were you expecting. The show will not always go right, but they know that risk and still take it daily.
@@henkjan997 You're part of the problem. They are not awesome. Animals are not meant to be kept in tiny cages like this, especially not orcas. Do you even know how they treat these animals? How they even started getting orcas in the first place? Watch Blackfish. Maybe then you'll do better. And if not, then I guess you really are just a waste of oxygen. Awful.
At least Tilikum is out of his misery. I guess they did not realize that male orcas stay with their mother their entire life? Imagine the misery of this poor orca. None should be kept in captivity. None. Same with dolphins.
They don’t get feed once a day. I used to be a sea world trainer! I loved my time there it is really just an awesome community! But I am here to tell you that they don’t get feed once a day the actually get Feed 7 times a day (not including when they do shows) They get feed large amounts of fish and other things at a time like Octopus Squid We also do not abuse them or harm them in any way they sometimes lash out Because they want a treat like a fish or Two That is why bad stuff like this happens in the beginnings of the shows Because they have not gotten a fish yet because they have not done a trick. Also when they are not doing a show we are scrubbing them and Massaging Them! Also during this time they get feed they don’t have to do tricks for these treats! Just wanted to spread awareness about this, Thank you for you time! Have a good day
@@leahstrawn6116 not all sea worlds work that way 👩🏻🦯 honestly all of sea worlds should be closed down. it’s not fair for the people and animals. the deaths that been caused by sea world will not change unless shut down 🛻
@@MariaCampoverde613 Funny that you say that considering I have worked at all the SeaWorlds in America (I love to travel lol) There are only 3 SeaWorlds in America Also the deaths are not caused by SeaWorld. They happen because of the orcas And all of this was about SeaWorld Orlando And most of my time being a SeaWorld employee was at Orlando. Once again “Not all SeaWorld parks and resorts are like this, but they are helping animals, They are also giving them a better life” Thank you for your time Former SeaWorld trainer
@@leahstrawn6116 better life? pls why is seaworld keeping intelligence animals when they can live by themselves and actually live longer than the ones being kept in a tight space for the rest of their lives. they shouldn’t be there for our so called entertainment. You see humans are the ones dangerous and not animals but not everyone is ready for that conversation LMFAO sad
I encourage you guys to watch “blackfish”, a documentary about the dark side of sea world and their orca show. Seaworld captures whales and rip them away from thier mothers and at the end of the capturing many are dead. When the babies are born there they are also ripped away causing emotional trauma to the mothers and children. Less than 1% of orcas have flopped over dorsal fins and yet almost every orca in captivity does. The documentary includes a lot more and it’s really important to spread the word on what really happens
Shadow you are pathetic. Your perspective is very subjective to your own good. How in the world is being captives benefits the orcas and how is orcas is well taken care. They were forced to live in a tank without their pod ! They were forced to be on schedule and perform for human entrainment purpose !!! You are confusing human being and orcas. These whales are forced to work and have set schedule time for their performance. They aren’t human and do not need to make a living so stop that nonsense
RIP sweet baby. Please forgive the cruelty bestowed upon you for FARRR too many years - 20!!! - and the evil humans who ripped you away from your family, where you would likely have stayed your whole life if the selfish cruelty of humans had not stolen you away. I hope your mother and family found peace and did not mourn your loss too deeply or for too long. I hope she, too, can forgive your kidnappers. My heart remains broken for all you suffered and my eyes fill with tears at the thought of what you were put through. I mourn no one at Sea World; nothing you did was ever your fault. Goodbye, Tili. We love you, sweet boy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
its so sad he was just so frustrated and he didnt know what was wrong he probably didnt even know that he killed her at least now hes free from the traumatizing place called "home"
I was there at the time Tikikum was alive. I was only 7 years old and i noticed that his dorsal fin was floppy. We asked the trainer why it was bent. The trainer told us it was of old age. They were clearly lying.
What about the dolphins, and all the other sea animals they have. Oh yeah the media didn't mention the others, therefore the other animals don't matter!
HI I'm a perso Throw them into the ocean to die? What? In the ocean is where they belong, they're wild animals. They are better off free. They can hunt and be together in the big ocean as it should always be.
You want the best care as possible? Leave the wild animals as wild animals in their natural environment. I know it’s an amusement park, create jobs & brings in revenue but this is wrong. If people want amusement, charter a boat, make money that way. Don’t make the animals suffer & fill your employee’s head with lies.
They see him as a bad animal, he really wasn’t they trained him that way, his old trainer used to let whales attack him and not feed him for weeks if he didn’t do as he asked, and that would have an effect on his mental state and make him mean he’s an animal treat him right, I feel bad for him, he’s so beautiful, and peaceful, he only makes his acts on the way you would treat him , Love you Tilikum rest easy, you are now in peace.❤️❤️
It was worse than that - Tillikum was put in with whales that didn't speak the same language. Each family of killer whales speak their own distinctive language. So Tillikum couldn't understand what he was being instructed to do. He was with other killer whales but he was still lonely with no one to speak to.
@@chrismora9049 I’m very glad you asked that question! Blackfish has 70% lies in it to make SeaWorld look bad. They said there is no record of an orca attack in the wild when they dang well knew there was 1 incident of an orca accidentally bit a man/woman. They said SeaWorld “starves their orcas” but this is in fact not true. In Behind the Scenes of Believe, a trainer said if the orca does a wrong trick, they give them positive reinforcement, they either tell them to do the trick again, or get a treat (fish, salmon, rub downs), but SeaWorld, especially Dawn, would never do anything to hurt the orcas or put them in danger. SeaWorld separates the orcas for a reason. In the documentary, these so called “trainers” had said Tiki (Takara, we pro capts like to call them by their nicknames) was moved from Kassy (Kasatka, again, we pro capts call the orcas by their nickname) at a young age. In fact, that is not true at all. Tiki was moved at 12 years old from Kassy. Another important thing, Blackfish had some trainers who were fired by SeaWorld. I will get back to you on that. There is more that I will share. Please, ask me anything.
He killed his trainer, Keltie Byrne at SeaLand in Canada BEFORE he was shipped to SeaWorld. In fact, that’s why he was sent to SeaWorld. Can’t believe they ever allowed him to swim with anyone.
No animal should. The only "captivity" that should occurs should be only to save a species, rehab an animal, nurse a sick animal, or sanctuaries that preserve their habitats. Nothing for entertainment AT ALL PERIOD.
I hope he’s in peace now, swimming happily. They treated him so badly and he did what his instincts told him to do. He truly did deserve a much much better life. They’re such beautiful animals
He was being held captive. In a tank tiny tank. For 21 years. That’s like us sitting in a bathtub for 21 years. He was frustrated & disrespected. That is so sad that orcas, not just Tilly, but orcas had to go through that.
Tilikum was neglected at Sealand as I understand and beaten up by the two female orcas there. Six years of neglect will take it's toll in every way. It doesn't matter how hard we try, it'll be impossible to meet their needs. A wild orca eats 500lbs of fish, seals, sharks, rays, whales etc. They live in strong, stable family units and have adaptive hunting tactics according to their prey. They include:intentional stranding, passive listening, synchronized swimming, wave hunting etc. Even stealing fish from fishing lines. They teach these tactics to their young from about 8 weeks old. Orcas cover up to 100 miles per day;swimming, courting, hunting, playing and so on
If you’re talking about the place he was in before SeaWorld, those two orcas actually bonded a bit too much with him. In fact, when he killed that first trainer by drowning her, those females circled around them so that he could finish the job.
Watching this in a time where whales can no longer be kept in captivity makes me emotionally horrified that Tilikum ended up dying in a place that gave him more trauma than people were letting on.
I will forever remember the day when my younger self was showered with Tilikum's saltwater spit at SeaWorld. We'll miss you, buddy. You've changed the future for all orcas.
@@chachas895 mabey she will miss him how the heck do u know she wudnt I've only ever watched videos of him but I cried when he died n I'm 32 I felt sad n anger as they mistreat him n the others mabey u shud experience how tilli felt then mabey us understand she's a child they love deeper then humans get off her bk fgs
lauren Warner so is seawsorld. At least blackfish got the basics right. Who cares if they didn't show the orca they were talking about? Did it suffer less because it had a different name than the one used in the film? Did it hurt less because the orca in the footage wasn't the one they were talking about? Seaworld has told more lies then anyone can count, and blackfish is the fake one? Blackfish got some details wrong, that's all. Seaworld lies on purpose, to make people think those orcas are truely in the best place possible, they lie to protect their cashflow. That's a lot worse than getting some details wrong, while trying to make people see what's wrong about keeping a giant, migratory mammal in a puddle. Not to mention the fact that seaworld keeps them in artificial pods, away from the extended FAMILY they are wired to live with. When you have to drug an animal for the majority of its life, to keep it "healthy" and relatively sane, it's obvious those animals can't cope with captivity.
I read a comment by a SeaWorld trainer saying that the whales are perfectly happy. Not only that, but also had the audacity to think captive whales should be happy because SeaWorld provides them with free food and health care, which they dont get in the wild.
Lillian VanGorder Their fins fold actually because they have no space in which to swim freely and are fed an unnatural diet of thawed dead fish. SeaWorld claims that this condition is common however, in the wild, it rarely ever happens and is a sign of an injured or unhealthy orca.
Water Nebula omg they don't "prefer" to go in higher waters. They are forced to😂 where else are they supposed to go the tank isn't deep for them to go farther.
I get where you're coming from, but orcas literally play with their prey and torture them before they eat them soooooooo that quote is kinda misplaced here xD
I was actually talking to my mom about this a week ago, i didn't know he had passed away, so sad, but he is free now, boycott all those places, animals belong in the wild, free 💔😔
A natural setting is free. Confined is not freedom. A trainer becomes a torturer. He killed his torturer, in his death, he became free. She remained what she was, ignorant.
The trainers to some extent were victims themselves. They purposely picked young hopeful people than lied to them and made it seem like they were doing something good for these animals I don’t believe that initially these trainers had poor intentions none of them had any kind of background in marine life and see world purposely targeted these kind of people who were naïve and didn’t know better they were no better than the public who went to sea world before finding out about what really went on there
Ann Foxgold, no disrespect meant, but you have to realize that it wasn't the trainer's fault, the blame is ultimately on Sea World. Dawn Brancheau was one of the best trainers they had.
They are torturing and killing those animals because of entertainment. This is absolutely disgusting and the people who support Sea World are that too.
I’m a Vietnamese and I’ve never seen orcas in real life before. I’ve always thought how wonderful it would be if I had a chance to see them. But I don’t think I would go to these parks 😢. I’d rather see them in documentaries on TV like I always do. Swimming freely in the ocean, without being held captive in cramped pools. Rest In Peace Tilikum ❤️🖤💙 You’re free now 🐬
@@henkjan997 having these highly intelligent animals in these parks, captured from the wild, having their babies stolen, and then keeping them in these inhumane conditions, just for entertainment sake is anything but amazing.
Rest in peace Tilli. Just because of you I am aware of the lives of the Marine Animals. I wish no animals will get as torturers life as you got. You are the one who has taken revolution in the lives of Orcas who live in captivity. I will always love you ♥️🥺
