RTF2014. Technique and combinations with enrosques for Tango Salon. Advanced level. During Riga Tango Fiesta in 2014-05-01 .. 2014-05-04 www.rigatangofiesta.lv NOTE: this is tango salon, not milonguero style class "estilo del centro de Buenos Aires".
See 02:30 Enrosque demo. Dancing to Barajando Recuerdos by Ricardo Tanturi with singer Alberto Castillo from album "Grandes del Tango 47 - Alberto Castillo Vol. 2 CD 1" available e.g. at open.spotify.com/track/5ikTXwJ...
00:00 - 00:08 How to do an enrosque correctly? Sebastian explains that the technique is not based on your torso. You have to concentrate on the sole of the foot. Like you would stomp a cigarette: turn your heel outside or inside depending on the direction of the turn. The amount of turning is determined by how many degrees you want to turn. The rotation is not coming from the force of your upper body and your your hips. The upper body dissociates (no need to aim for extremes) for the initial lead only but is has no other function regarding the turning. The enrosque is solely controlled by the support leg's heel shift action. Rest will follow. Simple and effective: turning is this way controllable at any point. Important detail: The free leg that is pointing toe down is not used in any way to help in assisting the pivoting. All the pivoting work is done by the supporting leg. You might as well hold the free leg up while you practice.
00:15 Roxana explains that each one is different and one should work out piece by piece the techniques. The goal should be fluidity and continuous movement. Modify little things and adjust as you dance with your partner. The movements are not complex but by putting it all together needs a solid foundation first (control of body, weight, steps, timing, lead etc).
01:40 - 02:00 Sebastian explains that you should not make a goal to be able to master everything in 1.5h time but to gain understanding how your body moves. Then take it from there to your home and practice. At 01:50 Roxana explains that the most important is to find your own balance and not to concentrate on the movements because they are always a little different.
02:10 Roxana emphasizes the basics: both must stand in their own independent axis to be able to move freely and dance together. The contact is not done by keeping upper body parts together to hold oneself but keeping "contact" -- that is -- being close to each other (hips, legs, adjusting abrazo, the embrace as needed). This will allow free movement. [Unlike in Milonguero style, where follower and leader keeps chest-to-chest contact at all times; the technique would be completely different]
Location: Spīķeru iela 5 (Sporta centrs Kumite, 2nd floor), Riga, Latvia.
Music: Barajando Recuerdos by Ricardo Tanturi 1943 (canta Alberto Castillo)

They make turning so complicated and have to separate to do so. There is a simpler tango in the milongas of Buenos Aires, and you don't have to study years with champions to dance it.

Please note that this is is not Milonguero Style (estilo del centro). See other videos for that style in RU-vid. For your information, Sebastian is the winner of World Tango Championship 2005. In spanish: Campeones mundiales tango de la categoría Tango de Salón 2005 (del 3º Campeonato mundial) . See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_tango_dance_tournament

Yes, I know they don't dance tango for the milongas, and that he is a salon champion. Every person is that class is older than they are, so social dancers don't need the "advanced level" exhibition choreography offered in that class. They need to learn how to improvise for a social dance floor.

Jantango Don't forget that Sebastian started at age of 15 and is therefore younger than most of the class. European tango dancers typically discover tango at much older age of 30-40 for obvious reasons. Improving one's body mechanics is always a good thing for any dancer. Somebody may feel some techniques unneeded and not worth practicing but that's another thing. But mastering movements like these certainly improves body awareness, axis and leading skills. These are part of the modern dancing tools, some of which can included in dancer's toolbox. Nothing to do with shows. You can apply selectively also in milongas with a good partner. There is no choreograph herey. It's all about knowing where the follower is and matching leader's moves according to it. That's skill. Sebastian and Roxana are social dancers and masters of improvisation by definition of their level of expertise :-)

Jantango You are just lacking some knowledge of tango history, the moment that made tango salon' became the social dance in milongas .. when they had to use bigger spaces, like gymnasium and basketball fields etc and they had the oppostunity the ability to develop pivots because the floor was made of a soft wood, and not traditionnal stone floor where milonguero and canyengue where the obvious and only possible way to dance. And actually, even milonguero nowadays is using more pivots (especially for the lady) than at that time. So please don't be so mind-closed, and check out this fulfilled richness of tango vocabular. And also, if you think it's not worth-it to spend so much time learning those steps (made for the show and not for the milonga) why are you losing your time watching them on youtube, are you interested in those shows actually ?
