Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair described Larsa Pippen as a "fake wife." According to Telfair, Pippen reminded him of his own ex-wife, with a continuous need for attention. Pippen, ex-wife of Scottie Pippen, would travel on the team's private plane, a practice that wasn't common. After their divorce, Pippen got a chunk of Scottie's pension. Telfair also commented on the NBA pension system saying that a pension is guaranteed after four years in the league and starts when a player hits 45.

FYI to qualify for NBA's pension plan you have to have played at least three seasons. If you play at least 10 seasons you qualify for the max benefit of $215K per year. If you decide to start getting paid at age 45 (instead of waiting until age 62) you will get paid min $800 per month for every season played. So the minimum would be $2,400 per month.

Vlad must be living under a rock. If a person is in the military and retires, they will have to give their spouse half of their pension. It also can happen to a federal employee who retires and then gets a divorce. So this is not uncommon. Lara will be just fine.
