SEC Media Days: Oklahoma coach Brent Venables 

All I can say as a lifelong member of BBN and the SEC family is that we are so blessed to have our new brothers and sisters in Texas and Oklahoma! There is no better/greater conference in college sports! Not just the dominance of football but baseball(Tennessee), softball(Oklahoma), gymnastics(LSU), men's basketball, and women's basketball(South Carolina)! We are the Everest of college sports now and many years to come! I'm so proud to be a member of the SEC and to be associated with our new brothers and sisters in battle, Texas, and Oklahoma! Welcome, brothers and sisters, and proud to have you in the family!!!

You know teams like Texas A&M and Missouri were saying earlier that they didn’t think the Sooners could compete in this league, I think they must have forgotten that the Sooners had their numbers back when they were in the Big 8 and later the Big 12.

Coach V has OU headed in the right direction! For those that don't know, he is a defensive mastermind. Brent Venables was the defensive coordinator at Clemson with those bone crushing defenses that beat a Saban coached Alabama team 2 out of 3 times in the national championship game. He also was the defensive and co-defensive coordinator at OU in the 2000's when OU won a national championship and played in multiple title games with Bob Stopps as the head coach at OU. You could see the gritty defensive play last year against Texas in the Red River Rivalry with that INCREDIBLE goal line stand that kept Texas out of the end zone with first and goal from the 1 yard line on 4 tries! The OU defense has made a drastic turn from the pitiful defenses under Lincoln Riley and that defensive line and the linebackers will be the strength of OU this season. OU's future looks very bright in the hands of Coach V.

Why do so many people think that the Sooners are going to be out of their league by going to the SEC. Yes there are some very talented teams in the league, but the Sooners aren’t going to be a team that will be a pushover, for all these teams that already there. I think the Sooners are going to surprise lot of people. Are people asking Texas these same questions? We have a saying in the Rodeo game There’s not cowboy that can’t be thrown or horse or bull that can’t be rode. I personally think given time and the Sooners will be right there in the top 5,6 or7 or lower every year. They act like the SEC is some kind of big monster only the teams that are there are the only ones that can compete in this league. I guarantee that the Sooners will hold their own, it might take a year or so, but wait and see. The Sooners aren’t going to be there redheaded stepchild, some of these teams are going to get smacked in the mouth this year.
