Hey explorers! This week we take a look way out in the middle of no where at a lonely old house way out in the fields. Once a working farm this old dwelling only ever had a lighting fitted that would have ran off a generator. No power points anywhere so they were living a very simple life on the land doing what they could to get their crops in and harvested. A few sheds with the machines of yesteryear still remain to also help paint the picture of this once working farm. Not lived in for over 50`s years it seems maybe there were only 2 generations to live here up until around the 1960`s. The home itself seems to be built around 1905-1915. Hope you all enjoy the explore, cheers for watching :-)

the engine seen at 17:25 is a Blackstone oil engine, it hopefully has a brass plaque on the other side of it saying The Blackstone Oil Engine, a serial number and its horsepower. Absolutely brilliant engine restored and running. Its an amazing find. thanks for sharing it.

1. I really hope that somebody saves that door hardware and those ornate coat hooks. 2. That is a truly amazing amount of bird poo. 3. That is a large single cylinder hit and miss engine. That would have been used with the large flat belt run out the door to run different machines, depending on what the farmer was doing. They ran off of gasoline, kerosene, or diesel. They could run things like shellers, saw mills, what ever the farmer needed. One large engine, multiple belt driven machines. Very common from the turn of the century (1900) through even the 1950's and 60's on small farms here in the USA and I am sure there in Australia as well. I own one about half the size of that one, and it still runs!! Keep up the great work!!

The old engine looked like a pump engine used for water, My uncle once showed me an old Hit N" miss one cylinder that was used yonks ago to run a generator for electric power plants, not very efficient, but it was about 100 years old at the time. A tad smaller than that one. Cheers

Hi Paul. Loved everything about this place, except the bird poo. 😂 The area is beautiful. Always, get a kick out of the birds in the background, never heard anything like that here in AZ. Thank you and take care. ❤

Yes, the prominent bird calls in the middle and end of the video are "pee wees" or the magpie lark. They are medium sized black and white birds. They love to eat crickets 😊

The old engine with the large flywheels is an Austral( made in Ballarat) or similar Kerosene engine. They would have used it with a generator to power the house.

What an historic beauty! All I can think of it though is that it is pigeon poo central. I don't know how you walk on that stuff lol. That distant shot from behind the house with the two gum trees either side would make a nice composition for an oil painting I reckon, Thanks, Paul for these great finds and documenting them,

I often notice the old fridges in your videos and it takes me back to the 60s and 70s public information adverts in the UK about removing fridge doors, because of a spate of child deaths. The old type of fridges with the metal handles could not be opened from the inside and children playing hide and seek in them that they came across on waste ground would be trapped. The message was to remove the door if the fridge was no longer working. It prompted me to tell about this seeing that the door of the fridge in this house had been removed.
@shez5964
@shez5964 11 месяцев назад
I don't recall any information adverts but during the same era (60s- 70s) Australia bought in the same rule because of the same sort of tragedies happening here. It's still a requirement rule today although I don;t know if modern fridges open easily from the inside.
@LestWeForget-LestWeForget
@LestWeForget-LestWeForget 11 месяцев назад
@@shez5964 Interesting! I did wonder when writing, about deaths happening elsewhere and if there were rules in place. I think the handle design was a latch type mechanism and with only a handle on the outside as a lever, it was impossible to open from inside. I don't think it is a rule here now, because I imagine even the retro style copies have a handle just for show and to pull, with the usual concertina type fridge door seal doing the job, which would be easy to push open from the inside.

Hi LWF :-) Yes even as a kid I vividly remember my Dad telling me they had to remove them as a lot of country people used them as mail/parcel boxes at the end of the long farm drive way. Kids would get locked in them as you said! :-( Cheers for watching again

I thought that the US had a lot of old abandoned houses but Australia has just as many. this one looks like it is way out in the middle of nowhere in a former farming community at one time doesn't look like anyone has been there in many years, sad to see them abandoned and left to end up like this but it happens i guess though have a great week and until your next new video Thank You.🤠👍 🇦🇺

hey Paul what a cool old gem again and those darn pigeons have claimed it as theres again. Loved the Gifford wood oven yer it would probably work again when the lid is attached. yes I dont think there is much time for the roof to fall in with all that pigeon crap up there. And that old machine in the shed I think it might be a steam powered pump with those big wheels which would have a belt attached to a pump to probably get the water out of the boar. Another cool find mate cheers.

HI PAUL, the machinery in the shed is a hay baler and a seed drill for planting wheat or other grain. There are probably more wheat for South Australia. After WW2, a lot of houses painted different shades of green.War surplus? P.S. Paul, the hay escalator, brings back bad memories of carting in hay for me, and perhaps for you?

@urbexindigo5164 11 месяцев назад
Hi Robert! :-) Cheers for watching again. Yes could be right about the green paint. And definitely right about the hay carting! lol. Initiated by my father to learn hard work with men before leaving school. It was but it was hard but I remember it fondly also :-) Cheers mate
@robertmurray8763
@robertmurray8763 11 месяцев назад
@urbexindigo5164 I started hay carting at about ten years old because I could reverse and change gears on the truck and the tractor as a driver. Then, I was on the truck tray or trailer stacking hay. and every year after that until I moved away from home. It was hard work.🎉

these videos make one consider the impact of changing governemt policy on rural communities and the erosion of family farms-think of the dairy industry, the wool industry in the early 80'sand others. Agro capitalism at it most aggressive.

That place is going to take a lot of vacuuming and that's not including what's up in the ceiling waiting for you. Bird poo central. No ones lived there for a long long time. Did it ever have electricity. It must have as it had a fridge. That was an engine in the shed and you were standing on the belt. I couldn't see a carb so I'm guessing its diesel. One of the rockers (on the top) are missing and the brass oiler above the cylinder.
