Second Chance game show with Jim Peck Part 1

Here is part 1 of an episode of the ABC game show "Second Chance" hosted by Jim Peck, and announced by Jack Clark. Based on the mention of the Monday Night Baseball teams at the end of the show, it would indicate the airdate of this show is June 27, 1977.
Video quality is not the best, and the audio is very slightly out of sync. Hopefully neither of those issues makes it unwatchable to you.

This must be the Holy Grail of game shows. I've been waiting YEARS for this day, and I thank you so much for uploading this!

What a rarity!! And to think Second Chance doesn't even exist, besides the pilot, that is. Thanks for the episode, friend.

I love it that Jim gets right into the game without explaining the rules too much.

I loved this show! It's a real treat to see a regular episode. Also, I think Jim Peck was one of the most underrated game show hosts in history. He was great. The fact that Press Your Luck lasted for so many years just proves how superb this idea was...with a little tweaking. :-)

And I thought it was great when someone uploaded the audio of an episode! This is the best game show find in years; bravo.

Please don't apologize for any issues with the video, just you having it and us seeing it are minor miracle in itself. Thanks for this! =)

You are spot on! That's exactly what this show became when it debuted on CBS in 1983, and the devils became whammies. (This is actually the first time I've seen this show!)

Fun fact, at the time Jack Clark was announcing for "Second Chance", he was simultaneously hosting "The Cross-Wits" for Ralph Edwards Productions and Metromedia Producers Corporation.

This is actually an early incarnation of Press Your Luck by the Carruthers Company.

When the third contestant Bob Cowen (sp?) was announced, for a second I thought he said "Bob Goen." (And it does kind of look like a younger version of him, too.)

I don't know much about you, but I know you're my hero for the time being. Surreal hearing Elvis discussed in the present tense.

Haven't seen this in years. Definitely a keeper. And the Blazers have not won a title since.

They should have gone for Jim Peck as PRESS YOUR LUCK host. No slight against Mr. Tomarken.

SuperPat88 No, they... really shouldn't have. No slight against Mr. Peck, but no one could've hosted Press Your Luck like Peter Tomarken.

Nice find. "Second Chance" never cleared our market (Atlanta) and I only saw some eps on a Florida trip in '77. "Press Your Luck" didn't clear here, either.

This is NOT a ripoff -- it's the original version of "Press", which aired for four months in 1977 on ABC. Same creator, same core format, etc.

Yes, and if I were to guess the second-most popular performer that would bring in high rollers to Vegas, I'd think it was Wayne Newton.

Jim Peck would go on to host the original Divorce Court (with Judge William B. Keene).

I don't think the pilot set was used in the series; there's a print ad for its debut showing this pilot's contestant area but a slightly rejiggered Bonus Board (possibly from said pilot; it appears to be a "halfway" between the pilots and an early-run shot with the FREE 5000 SPIN and contestant area seen here). The only big changes were to the Bonus Board, which was slightly altered when the series began and heavily cheapened by this point.

That guy may have watched all 6 games of the 1977 NBA Finals, but he was probably quite the tired puppy in order to do it. CBS wasn't exactly showing all of those games live back then.

There's a few slight differences in game play from Press Your Luck, but it's essentially the same game otherwise.

Considering this aired about 8 years before PYL, no. This was retooled into PYL.

I don't think this was aired in Philadelphia, since the Action News takes the 12 noon spot and Family Feud was at 12:30 pm.

Actually, the "original" Divorce Court lasted from 1957 to 1969, with Judge Voltaire Perkins presiding and Colin Male as the courtroom announcer. The 80s version of DC was a revival.

Wow! Thanks so much, VA1000! I was really, really looking forward to seeing the devils on popup cards and the free spin space. Awesome.. I turned 6 two days before this episode. Maybe someday I'll get to see a contestant "devil out"! Notes about this episode: Jim Peck doesn't screw around, he gets right into the questions! Good to see my Blazers, AND Mo Lucas (rip) get name-dropped! I THOUGHT I remember two devils being in different spaces from the pilot. Cool! Thanks again!!!

I wonder if the set used in the Second Chance pilot was used in the actual show. If they did, does anybody know when they changed the set (that is, redesigning the "spin" indicators and moving the Devils from behind the contestants to in front of them)?

From the angle where Jim Peck comes out, since you can't really see the designs behind the contestants, the whole set just looks like a bleak, yellowish void

No, it's not a rip-off. Second Chance was PYL's predecessor. PYL debuted in 1983, this was 1977 or so. Bill Carruthers produced both shows, for your info
