I was in the audience when he recored this at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. They recorded the album over 5 nights. It took all 5 nights to get this one down without a mistake. At the end we all stood up and cheered. By the 5th night we all knew every word and note of this song.
my Mom bought this On cassette tape back in 1994 and I just fell in love with this album. Todd Rundgren at his Very Best he is truly a Musical Genius Composer. I got a big laugh at the song called the smell of Money and I love it as well. much better than when he was a member founder of the band Utopia. as a musician myself I can really appreciate his musical approach he combines classical. Jazz Fusion. Progressive Rock. and Metal.
This album and song meant so much to me as a High School Freshman and Sophomore growing up in West Los Angeles. This album influenced my bass playing for my high school's production of the Wiz in 1990. The bass parts gave me so much inspiration. I was GROKKING the heck out of thi s tape out the time. I remember just bringing the brightness of my playing into the parts so much at the time. Especially the stopping and starting of the dancing bass parts. They were so similar to me. I also remember that my music teacher was surprised I was into Todd Rundgren who was someone he knew from his High School time. Not just this album but much of TR early stuff including Utopia.
Old rocking chair It beckons you like a junkie's needle Start thinking feeble Cowardly lion The special today is karma yoga Glued to the sofa Where was I when we lost power? Where was I when lies were spoken? Where was I when evil snuck in? Where was I when hope was choking? A spy in the house, Someday one of the kids may catch us cussing, Then turn us in. Family ties, They used to be colors in a rainbow, Now we fly solo. Give me back the passion flower, Give me back the nonconsumer, Give me back my lack of reason, Give me back my sense of humor. Blow like cyclone my second wind, Blow like typhoon my second wind, Blow like tempest my second wind. Blind by design, I've gotten the hang of not resisting, Who cares who's listening. Popular press, And we've got the video and the movies, Let's feed the zombie. Now that I know what to fight for, Now that I need more adventure, Now that I have thoughtful patience, Now that I can see the future. Blow like cyclone my second wind, Blow like typhoon my second wind, Blow like tempest my second wind. Put your hours in and take your pay, Like there wasn't any other way, Then I heard a voice inside me say, It was twenty years ago today. When did I get so tired? Did I wake up half-sleeping? I can't life slip away, To a world with no meaning. Now that I know what to fight for, Now that I need more adventure, Now that I have thoughtful patience, Now that I can see the future. Blow like cyclone my second wind, Blow like typhoon my second wind, Blow like tempest my second wind. Blow like cyclone my second wind, Blow like typhoon my second wind, Blow like tempest my second wind. Blow like cyclone my second wind, Blow like typhoon my second wind, Blow like tempest my second wind. Blow like cyclone my second wind, Blow like typhoon my second wind, Blow like tempest my second wind.
First time I heard this song. Love, love it like everything else he does. I know that he is going out on your with YES this summer. This song sounds like a fusion between them and Todd. I've seen them both, obviously not together.... I can't wait to see the tour schedule and get my tickets!
Wish I could have seen them when Todd and Joe toured together. Two of the five people in modern music I consider geniuses. At least I’ve seen them both separately
We saw Todd at The Warfield in San Francisco I think, maybe 1990 . He did the 2nd Wind album , and the nearly human album with a big band. It was the best I'm telling you
