I have visited many flea markets over the years, but none of them can hold a candle to this place!
This is the main reason I love places like this. It's not just the clutter & dirty hands, it's the randomness of it all, almost like playing a slot machine. You'll never know what you're going to get, but when you score a jackpot, your entire day gets brighter. This entire property with all the stuff crammed into it belongs to one family, who work as a trader of used industrial machinery. The boss said he's been doing this business for at least 50 years, which isn't surprising based on how many items are in his possession. I've actually known about this place since 4 years ago, but never had a chance to visit until now, and boy is it a huge surprise for me. The first time I went in, I saw a bunch of industrial pedestal & exhaust fans, centrifugal blowers, a cooling tower, and some huge fan blades. My usual strategy kicks in & started conversations with the owners of the place to familiarize each other. They allowed me to have a good look around, and I saw tons of items of interest. I asked about prices & conditions etc, and brought home an EY129 on the first day. I also offered fans I spotted in the place to fellow fan enthusiast, and some of them quickly swooped in.
The next day was when I made a huge discovery; 4 more National EY129s in good shape, a DMD ceiling fan, and Sanyo orbital ceiling fan controls! To be honest my brain was screaming "OH HE%* NO" the whole time I was there that day, because I can't afford to say no to that deal, but also unwilling to barf out the amount of cash needed to purchase all that. The fans themselves were cheap, but once you add all them up, the price tag is nothing to laugh at. Plus I was dealing with people who count their pennies a thousand times over to make sure none were unaccounted for, and I had a hard time squeezing the price down. Fortunately my tiny knowledge of scrap metal prices was able to penetrate the owner's cash strapped attitude, and the boss gave me more info about the world of scrap metal as a bonus! Not so lucky was when I asked for a small non working PC fan in their scrap pile thinking they'd give it for free, but they wanted 50% of its brand new value, so I nooope'd out of that.
Cleaning these fans were about as fun as dealing with the boss of that place. I had such wonders as 7 gecko eggs, poop from multiple different animals, cockroach wings, rust, stubborn stains, and a live baby gecko who jumped out at me from one of the fan's downrods. That won't stop me from visiting that place again soon though!
