I like the Scott Pilgrim movie, but the comic is so much better. The relationships between all the characters aren't super deep, but they're enjoyable. Kim and Envy are much more developed in the comic (with Kim being the highlight for me), there are characters missing in the movie version, and Scott's character arc is different (I've heard the movie described as being about Scott letting go of past relationships, both his and Ramona's, but in the comic the seven evil exes are more akin to Scott's inner demons or character flaws, which he fights to become a better person).
We talked about it, and thought there was no room, but looking at this video, there is! We were thinking we both wouldn’t fit on the live stream, so Omar - guess what we’re going to get....
So there's a house spirit in the restaurant and a spirit attached to the cauldron.... Anyone else see the problem here? Why didn't she just call in La Llorona too? Yeah I'm sold on this book. :)
Seconds is FAN-tastic! I really liked Scott Pilgrim, too - Omar is right that the tone is a little different, but honestly, not vastly different. I would think that if you like one, then you like the other, but everyone has their own take (p.s. I don’t like the movie either despite loving Edgar Wright - please don’t tell people)
Wonderful review. Thank the heavens that this story takes a supernatural turn. My stress level went up and I was having flashbacks to the many many years I worked in a restaurant before I got my degree. The visuals look super fun. I’ve definitely put this on my wishlist. Who was dog-earing the bottom corners of those pages though?
Man i love Seconds SOOO much!and when i read it I haven't even read Scott Pilgrim yet!! Now thats a video i didnt think i d see!such a (pleasant) surprise (as is Melanie participating in a review) ))
I'm reading a LOT of different graphic novels right now, as well as various books, but the one I'm reading right now that gets most of my attention is The Avengers: The Vibranium Collection; and it is ridiculously large. And it covers so much of The Avengers run.
I loved Seconds when I read it, but I like Scott Pilgrim even more. Maybe you should try reading the colour version as you won't be comparing it so much to manga then..?
Huh. This was something I probably would’ve skipped over 99 times out of 100, but with your guys review I’ll be picking it up! :) Dammit, you guys are good at what you do. I love it though, so thank you. & Thanks to the community for recommending it so much that we got a video out of it. :) I haven’t read Scott Pilgrim either, so maybe I’ll look into it. Algorithm gang!
I loved seconds. I love the Scott Pilgrim movie! I will say Michael Cera is kind of a shitty Scott Pilgrim. When I read the books I can't see Michael Cera at all.
I also just grabbed Saga from Image Comics, but I haven't really gotten into it yet because it's a short TPB and I'm trying to get more to go with it before I get into it. But it looks different.
Seconds is a nice read. Can't wait to see more work from Bryan Lee O'Malley. @NearMintCondition This is off-topic, but Omar, do you know if DC is still planning to release that Deluxe HC of Gen 13 (or some kind of new Gen 13 collection)?
Plus it’s so easy. Even if I have to sit through some ads on every account(minus my main one with premium) it just means I support you all more with that revenue. Whoop whoop!
