Playing the drums for many years, I recently developed a simple way to engage a form of interaction between the notes triggered by my hands and played by my feet. The secret is the pads: in their native-state they don't make sound. Only when pedals are simultaneously played (in a natural way) do the notes (played by the hands) make sound.
This new method, previously undisclosed, takes advantage of the very nature of the drumming experience. Like playing the drums themselves, this melodic method is an "interaction of sound" created between the hands and feet. For an intermediate drum-set player the new system is intuitive, fun, and self-reinforcing (it sounds great so you do it).
