Remember Buddy going to Sydney. No-one knew till after the end of season. Sam Mitchell to WC, Jordon Lewis to Melbourne, Hodge to Brisbane. All were only offered one year contracts. Clarkson was honest and open. Hawks had a clean out of older players. WC should do the same while they have value. Barrass will be retired by the time WC make GF.
I reckon they should prioritise interstate clubs that finished higher on the ladder for games on the MCG during the h&a season. If you finish top 2 you get 3/4, if you are 3-6 you get 2/3, 7-11 you get 1/2.
It's a valid point, but I'd rephrase it from "interstate clubs" to "Non MCG tenants". The Dogs haven't played at the MCG since May 11, yet might be expected to play a home final or two there. St Kilda and North have played 2 & 1 games there respectively. Obviously that probably won't impact finals, but St Kilda's "home final" last season against GWS was their third game at the MCG, and GWS' second. Hardly a home ground advantage. The non Vic point is a fact though. If Sydney finish top and win their home finals, the Grand Final will be their third game at the MCG for the season, and their first since April 28. Grand Final Day is September 28, so it'll be a full five months since they played at the ground. If the Grand Final is to be held at the MCG, the AFL can't say that they're serious about competitive integrity until they balance things like that up.
all my god JARRAD SCHOFIELD HAD A PERFECT SEASON WITH SUBIACO UNBEATEN!!! 2018!!! LIKE REMEMBER THE TITANS THE MOVIE HE DID IT REAL LIFE!!! FIRST TO DO THAT IN 71 YEARS IN ANY CODE!!!! GUY NEEDS FOUR YEARS!!!!! GOT SKILLS JUST NEED A CHANCE!!!!!
20 a year, well not surprising, but it just makes the AFL look like a business (which of course it is) and I guess it diminishes it a bit for me. Ideally teams should have a majority of players within their area, or really people who love the club, want to play for them, were fans growing up. People might laugh at that of course, but that's really the only way you can say "We won a premiership" rather than "These group of high draft picks that we accumulated over lean years all came together and won a premiership", I mean that doesn't mean much to me personally.
Who cares about The Matilda’s? Was upset to see them beat the valiant Zambian’s. I don’t imagine they’ve got elaborately funded institutes of sport over there.
