I feel like a lot of the time with Arctic Monkey songs I listen to a song, don’t love it at first, and then a couple of weeks or months later, I go back to the said song and love it.
This is one of the many slow (ish) songs on the Arctic monkeys albums. This concludes of secret door, mad sounds, riot van , etc. each album has one or possibly even 2 slow songs. These songs are so extremely underrated but are some of the best
Many memories with me and my old friends with this song. Bitter but good memories. I wish I could relive those days when i was 16 but i still can't move on
This is absolutely my favourite Arctic Monkeys song of all time. On a surface level, it simply sounds amazing. The build along with the guitars and the slow, sweet melody is just perfect. But lyrically, it is still perfection. I have loved this song for well over a year now and it's greatly due to the cryptic lyrics. I love to interpret it as a celebrity who wears a mask for the public, and this guy completely falls for it, making assumptions about her. Then he meets her privately and finds out it's all an act, but her performance is so convincing that he nearly doesn't believe her when she's being genuine. the fools on parade are the paparazzi who will never know this other side to her, and she doesn't care about what they write about her (scribbles on a page by a picture). However I can also imagine it's about high schoolers at a house party, or that the celebrities are the fools on parade, not the paparazzi. it is just such a perfect song; so interesting, and I will never get tired of trying to figure it out
@@AOT_Edits44 it is up for interpretation, but i think the general idea is that this girl has two sides: one for the public and one for private. the person telling the story is completely fooled by her public persona, and so they are shocked and mesmerized when they see how she is in private. "I, who was earlier reluctant, was suddenly embarrassed and corrected" the storyteller is embarrassed to have been fooled by her disguise. "even if they were to find us, I wouldn't notice. I'm completely occupied." They are so enraptured by her that this person wouldn't look away no matter what was happening around them. this works with the house party storyline, and the celebrity one too, so i think this is the overall theme. Hope this helps but really you should just listen to the song and love it in whichever way makes the most sense to you, even if it is completely different from what i've said.
@@fyofx no your explanation totally makes sense !!! It helped me get the general idea and understand it so much more , since English is not my first language i was feeling lost :)
Fools on parade cavort and carry on for waiting eyes That you would rather be beside than in front of But she's never been the kind to be hollowed by the stares She swam out of tonight's phantasm Grabbed my hand and made it very clear There's absolutely nothing for us here It's a magnolia celebration to be attempted on a Wednesday night It's better than to get a reputation as a miserable little tyke At least that's the conclusion she came to in this overture And the secret door swings behind us She's saying nothing, she's just giggling along Her arms were folded most indignant Not looking like she was soon to leave I had to squint in order to believe And then like a butler pushing on a bookshelf I'm unveiling the unexpected I, who was earlier reluctant Was suddenly embarrassed and corrected How could such a creature survive in such a habitat? And the secret door swings behind us She's saying nothing, she's just giggling along Even if they were to find us I wouldn't notice, I'm completely occupied As all the fools on parade cavort and carry on for waiting eyes Ones you would rather be beside than in front of But she's never been the kind to be hollowed by the stares Fools on parade frolic and fuck about to make her gaze Turn to a scribble on a page by a picture that holds her absence But you're daft to think she'd care Fools on parade Fools on parade Fools on parade Conduct a sing-along
