"The paradigm shift must start from our focus on being the best at this or that, versus being the best YOU - with your unique mixture and variety." "Nobody can compete with me, in being me." Ido. Thank you so much for that, I couldn't agree more! internalising this mindset, shielding oneself from a superficial and ever-comparing society, is one of the hardest challenges you can face... Live long and prosper!
Sometimes Ido's attitude grates with me in his interviews and longer videos but I can't help but keep watching because this man seems to seriously know his shit.
+ShinyRedPanda Attitude grates egos. Messages are like mirrors - you see your own reflection in them, in their presentation, criticism, etc. People who cant see beyond their emotional response never get to the bottom of the message. Oh and one more thing - there is no way to put out there a universal message that goes through everyone's filter. I was never delusional about that. Some will love, some will be indifferent, some will hate. I keep moving and I keep spreading my truth - like Herpes.
Very true Ido, just started my bodyweight training journey, my first step to widen my movement horizon :) been just doing weights for years. Thanks for the inspiration!
Very nice video, coming from someone with an overuse injury (at least that is what it is believed to be) that's been preventing me from doing much the past 2 years.
+IamHueGraves I have. I had minor surgery for it to smooth some tendons in my wrist, have tried physical therapy but it was made worse. My grandmother used to be a well known occupational therapist and gave me an exercise that seems to finally be helping, which may prevent the need to go for surgery to shorten my ulna. Hoping it does!
+IamHueGraves thanks, 2nd day she had me do the exercise I felt 2 tendons slip over each other and my whole hand had pins and needles for a minute then my wrist felt relaxed for the first time in almost a year, so it was a good sign it will help.
How old is Ido? Will be interesting to see if his opinion is still the same when he's 80. The majority of the very long lived have active lives, but strenuous exercise is rarely a component.
Hello there, could you please give any advice to any one who wants to switch from lifting weights at the gym to just doing body weight movements and use it to be fit and strong, I have no clue where to start when it comes to body body weight , so please any advice from you or anyone here will be helpful , I have good strength I believe but Gym is just a static boring sport for me and I really do not want to lift anymore .
What is he saying there exactly? English isn't my native language. I don't get the following: "And I aband at being the best. I'm [....] at anything that I do."
Great video Ido. Just one question. I saw and interview with you where you said that to some extent you refuse to work with vegans. I'm just wondering if you have a new view on that or if you still think the same, and if so, why?
Good video and nice moves. But the thesis has no support at all. Just an opinion. Besides what does "specialist" mean? A dancer? A martial artist? A decathlete?
Ido do you have any training in Wing Tsun/Chun kung fu, if not, you should definitely check it out when you have a minute. Go to the source : Ip Man or Leung Ting
I really enjoy thease videos. I was att the movement camp in Thailand this year, and I heard a mysterious *thud* sound very impressive. Thank you to you and your team Ido, for sharing your knowledge. Regards from the beardless viking. :)
the problem I have with this type of display of strength flexibility coordination etc etc, is that not all have got it! so... not all can perform these types of movement, they can get close but never reach this ability! I know you'll type back saying at least their trying, but its not what people want is it!?!
+fewhavestrength Why can't everyone do this? Not everyone can bench 3 plates or squat 4 plates or deadlift 5. Not everyone can be a world class athlete, not everyone can be a bodybuilder. But everyone should be able to master the movement of their own body.
Yeah now wouldn't that be a perfect world, sorry to break it to you but its not and people can't! Read some biomechanics and it'll explain this in greater detail.
Ok you live with the mindset of I can't it isn't possible and I will carry on working towards it. Come back to this message in 5 years and we will check up on each other.
+TsmithWin Ok, I'll bring a specific example then. People with serious chronic shoulder issues that they never manage to truly fix will struggle with everything from pull-ups, dips, hand-stands, planches, levers, flags and maybe even something as simple as push-ups. Just one example from the top of my head. A 60 year old overweight osteopenic woman who's otherwise healthy is another example it's unrealistic to try to use such movements on. Ido's feats are obviously only accessible to a subset of people. How big that subset is (through consistent work) can be debated, but it's obviously not 100% people.
When we look at the blue zone places where the healthiest and longest living people lives, we see that *ALL* but one of them eat a %95 meat free diet. And that one (California Adventist) who doesn't eat a %95 meat free diet eats a *%100* meat free diet and they happen to be the one who lives the longest and healthiest people out of any other blue zone cities. I really hope that you will wake up one day and realize the importance of diet in longevity.
Can't argue with those facts. The argument often levelled at vegans is that they do not have enough explosive energy but I would find that hard to believe. They do have endurance as is evidenced by their ability to work long hours tending crops. Each to his own. Meat is a more concentrated form of energy but a balanced vegetarian diet fulfills the same requirements.
Please Google *"Berkay Why Vegan?"* and read the facebook note that I wrote which has been liked and shared by hundreds of people. I am sure you'll like it.
im a 22 year old male. For the past 4 or 5 years ive begun to have more and more back pain, i dont have any lower back pain, always in the middle of the back around the spine and in around the spine in trapezius and maybe rhomboids area, its hard to tell what and were exactly even though pain is sharp. its often one "wrong" move and im "out" for a time. -Maybe because sitting too much? idk Does anyone have any advice, to what would be a good idea for me? i have begun training BJJ for about 4 months ago, and i do some pullups and that stuff once in a while to strenghten upper back.
+Attila Uslu Get yourself a foamroller or a theracane and do some pressure-point massages. Sounds like built up tension. Are you sitting on the computer alot?
Karl S good idea, maybe that would help, havent heard of the cane before. i had x-rays taken aswell, but the doctor didnt have much to say, and she believed i could "train it away" thats why i bought a pullup bar, about a year ago. i am sitting on the computer quite alot, and besides that i also sit all day when im in school, so its definitely a lot of sitting x)
doing pull-ups won't remove the tension. You need to massage and stretch your body. I use both the cane and the foamroller to massage my back. After just one day on the computer I can feel my back getting tense. "Fitness FAQ's" and "Functional patterns" have some videos on the subject.
Karl S yea massage sound right, ill probably invest in a foamroller for sure, thought about before, but forgot about its existence x) i have a hard time stretching the area between shoulderblades, dont know if its even possible to do properly. i will make sure to check out these channels then, thank you friend :) have a good one
Attila Uslu You could look for some restorative yoga routines for back, neck and shoulders. That might help aswell:) No problem! Have had back issues myself so I know the frustration, hehe. Thanks, you too!
But but a video on the side tells me i can get longevity from ancient anti aging Chinese herb secrets and that sounds easier than all your training stuff so i'm gonna believe that
* "The real secret for longevity is diversity, variety in movement practice". "The paradigm shift most start from our focus on being the best at this or that, versus being the best YOU". "…But nobody can compete with me, in being me." *Live long and prosper everyone!! :]
We all had a good laugh just now. I predicted: 'they will say its sound effects first and then they will blame the shirt. finally they will say I am making a sliding noises with my feet on the floor'. Well... no. The sound comes from my body and arms. Simple but not easy.
+Bashir Adan It the rushing sound of the air , if you are a badminton player , you can trying doing a smash without the racket , you will hear the sound.
+Bashir Adan Just look at the mechanics. It is the speed of the open hands resulting from the force transformation beginning from the scapula to the fingertips. Every boxer (should) understand it.
thanks ido. I have had back problems that dr.s couldn't fix. and ive been trying your teachings . and when I do the pain feels like it wants to go away.thanks im a believer.
HATS OFF TO THIS GUY 🙌 he changed my mindset within a minute in fraction of time. He took the being your self thing to whole new level with 100% humbleness and positivity
Did you know that is the Buddha mind or the lost mind. The only job the Ego have in this is to insure that there is no ice in the line. After all these is a water level.
Hello Ido! What do you think about education movement of Freinet, Montessory, in France, that are turned on experimentation of himself and with others from movement culture in martials arts? Thanks!
Ido, could you explain those movements at the end of the video. The explosive ones. Benefits and why you engage them? I'm new to movement and have a lot of mobility barriers that I'm working on. Just trying to expand my horizon. Thank you for your videos and all that you do!
+Gusisgreat77 I am not Ido, but I will venture an answer : these are traditional internal martial art mobilization of tendon strength instead of muscles. Look up fa jin (explosive power). Ido being a good researcher of movements must have thought that was a good thing to add to his everlasting repertoire….
Gusisgreat77 its the same principle used in the famous one inch punch, you get energy from the spine and transfer it to the arm. Very precise movments, high level indeed.
I wish to know one thing.Ido says that overuse is a specific phenomem given that for example you can overuse a joint or a muscle group. But behind all the movements stands the cardiovascular system. All your movements are powered by it.And it must be used at all times, so you can say it is unspecific. So given that, how can you withstand all that?Without the proper endurance provided by genetics, it will be overused no matter how diverse your trainings are.Or maybe he wants to relate to that too, meaning that the level of strain must be changed over time as well? For me this was not explained.
I can't say how much this man has changed my view, I felt myself heading more and more towards the functional body but Ido helped me put it into action. thank you
Just the video I needed to see to spark my motivation again. Thanks Ido! The movement/flow stuff your doing, is that based on a martial art or something?
I can feel my joints cracking and popping in agony just watching the athlete's on this channel do their thing. It's truly amazing what some are able to accomplish.
So as someone who enjoys break dancing, would you say this is a step int eh right direction? I also train with my body weight with calisthenics, when i dance I like to change levels and roll about (no powermoves... YET!) I love doing varied exercise (hence the calisthenics style working out) but would you say im doing the right thing. I feel more alive, but if i may ask of you, your opinions. Will this style last?
Wellness has many domains so to translate to CMA/yangsheng, physical elements (domain(s)) are only a fraction of the longevity paradigm. Good heart/mind, true vision and a moderate fitness/activity schedule is the best along with some good tea and laughter. As a young Marine, when I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Okinawans did not do /do not do any special stuff but they didi live according to the rhythm of their environment. They do not have the distractions of modern day crap but they were active and ate fresh food and preserved a cultural tradition
