I played this game back then with two of my closest mates, we had the joy of our lives and still talk about the couch-coop-experience we had. I still love to listen to the brillant soundtrack of this game.

It's a result of one of the glitches they did. The girl's default name stored in memory. Since they never got her in the first place, and she's only in the party because they 'rescued' her in Matango, they never got to name her, thus, the default remains.
They skipped the Girl, so never got to rename her. Then she was forced into their party later with her unset name. There's garbage in that memory location, which gets interpreted as gogogogogogo.
