Secret Places of Mexico: Tamul Waterfall, Edward James Gardens, Huasteca Potosina RV Mexico

We're exploring "secret" locations during this week's RV Mexico adventure, and you should add these to your planning list! Few Americans venture into the Huasteca Potosina region, which while away from the beaches and traditional tourist areas, boasts many waterfalls and fantastic outdoor activities.
Tamul, at a height of 340ft is the tallest waterfall in San Luis Potosi state. The teal blue waters flow downstream, collecting in caves (which we also explored) along the way. Our tour originated in Ciudad Valles, and coupled with lunch, this makes a perfect half-day excursion to one of the most beautiful places in Mexico.
Next we ventured to the "gardens" of Edward James near the town of Xilitla. Over 50 years ago, James sought out inspiration and architecture from around the world to create this one-of-a-kind art installation in the jungles above Xilitla. Like a cross between Indiana Jones, Alice in Wonderland, and Tomb Raider, structures rise and twist their way around trees, rocks, and waterfalls. Edward James and his team built his vision using modern concrete and rebar along with found materials to construct "flowers" and "orchids" that could stand the test of time.
A perfect companion to this roadtrip was the town of Xilitla. Built on a steep hill, the colonial town gives you two options: wind your way up the roads, or drive straight up the hill. We chose a little of both, and were rewarded with delicious tortas and Howard's favorite, Horchata!

@NewstateNomads
@NewstateNomads 3 года назад
Thanks, Sherri! The outlet that Dennis & Liz were plugged into at the campground literally melted because two of the wires in the outlet fused together. It caused an outage in the whole campground, but I thought "I" had blown a fuse, not realizing everyone was affected. 😂 -Howard

What a grand adventure:). Is Dennis the clown out of your bunch? I was wondering how big is the DEF tank is in the RV and how much does it use? We got a gallon with our View and it didn’t have the normal date stamp, so I hated to use a old batch of DEF. We are almost ready to take out maiden voyage.
@NewstateNomads
@NewstateNomads 4 года назад
Haha, I think who is the clown is depends on the day. 😂 All three guys have quite a sense of humor! We can go thousands of miles between refilling our DEF, we've never actually filled it all the way but we think it's 5 gallons. Oh that's so exciting!! How are you feeling before taking off?!

Lets use the million watts oven, oops the light went out in the whole state.
@NewstateNomads
@NewstateNomads 2 года назад
Hahaha, it's a 1200w oven, less than a blow dryer! The owners were very apologetic. Several cables (too thin for what they were supposed to be used for) had melted inside an electrical box. ☹️ -Howard

So cool, I love your videos. They’re different than other overlanders and vanlivers on RU-vid. How has the Navíon treated you so far? Would you say that more solar and battery power is needed?
@NewstateNomads
@NewstateNomads 4 года назад
Thanks for watching, and really appreciate the compliment! Long answer ahead (haha): The Navion has been great for us, and the 24D floorplan we think is pretty ideal for full-time RVers. We did go bigger on the house batteries, and have looked a few times at increasing the solar (it is true that more is better for batteries and solar). The compressor fridge is a nice upgrade but it does consume a significant amount of energy, so having at least one more panel would help us stretch even further when dry camping. -Howard

We did (It's a CONVECTION microwave, so a combo of electric convection oven and a microwave)! If you run it in convection mode, perfectly safe for metal, no microwaves.
