My granddad was born in Diego Garcia. After he, his family and everyone else was forced to move to Mauritius and Seychelles they along with my mum, uncles and aunties were promised by America $1.1m compensation each but that never happened. It's sad because he tells me how nice it was and how much he misses it

My dad worked as a civilian employee in Diego Garcia in the late 80s. It's actually a British possssion on lease to the US military. At the time that my dad worked there, 9/11 hadn't happened yet and his description of life/activity there was how you'd describe life in an ordinary military base but more boring since recreation was limited by the place's isolation. My dad passed away in 1999. He died on September 11, 1999.
Lived there in 2005/6. Huge crabs, donkeys roaming around, chickens in trees, swimming with turtles, having a beer with officers, so many Philippine contract workers were everywhere but didn't get paid well. :/ Served 9 years and there was nothing like it.

I was born and raised in Sonoma county, most everyone knows about the Grove. It’s way out in the middle of nowhere. There’s cameras all along the highway getting to the gates. If you’re not invited, cops will be waiting for you at the gate. My ex also used to work for them! The employees weren’t allowed to have their cell phones. Not allowed to talk to the guests unless it was food related, or something along those lines. All I know, it’s a sketchy place and shouldn’t try to get in. Lol.
