This is Episode 90 of our daily series!
Located in the outdoor display area of the museum, a coach that was once owned by the museum is now in the private restoration project of a longtime museum volunteer and supporter, Marty Fair. He has been converting the former GT coach into a lounge car, complete with a bar and booth style seats. One day soon, this fabulous lounge will be out on the line. But for now, it is closed and locked off to patrons even when the museum is open. Today... you get a sneak peak inside!
This is a daily video tour series from the temporarily closed Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Minnesota. See the entire series at duluthtrains.co...

I always find it funny when Minnesotans say "up in Canada" when they're referring to southern Ontario, which is considerably further south than Minnesota

Ken--this is fantastic. There are a few of these dedicated restoration folk's around and they are indeed much appreciated. When I was a 8 or 9, my dad was called to brakeman an extra weed burner move from Glenwood to Belgrade MN and I got to go along. Coming home on train 105 the Enderlin local, they had an extra car on, business car #48. Someone asked my day what was I doing riding along and he told them, and I was invited into the business car for the trip back to Glenwood. I never forgot the smells of the interior of that car. A number of years ago I visited the museum in St. Louis and there they have the 48. I told a woman volunteer my story and she went and got a key and let me in the car. It was as I remembered it, and I think the smells might have been the same as back in the late 40s. I don't think they have done any restoration on that car and even a roof leak has damaged some of the interior, I wish you had it at LS to be cared for. Thank you for the trip of Nostalgia.

Another great video. It should be noted that the Museum puts out an excellent, very interesting periodical that is sent to members. Anyone is well served by joining up and supporting this place. This and the California Railroad Museum are by far the two best railroad museums in the United States.

5:27 "The light fixtures are not railroad standard" you say? Well you'll be surprised to hear that Amtrak California's Cafe Cars are actually outfitted with very similar lights at every table! And those are modern cars too!

So, you put modern stuff in there and changed the configurations to something that the car never was? That's rather blasphemous in my view.

🤔 Well, isn't that what happened once before, when it became a crew car? 🙄😕

You should restore this car and run this on excursion trains

The whole point of this video is that the restoration has taken *twelve years,* and they're still working on it! If I understand this properly, it is now Mr. Fehr's car (spelling?). While I always like historical accuracy, at least this 110-year-old car is going to ply the rails again, so there's that! :-)
