I hope Hyatt offers something like this again. Simply offering this perk probably made them a bunch of extra money from people choosing to stay at Hyatts to take advantage of their new status. A big time perk!
If you currently have Globalist status, you can book some very cheap nights at the Rio in Las Vegas now, which recently joined Hyatt! Comes with free breakfast and stays in the renovated rooms.
I considered going to Vegas or Mexico but decided to find a Cat 1 hotel 20 min from home instead. I’m thinking it’s be cheaper and easier this way despite most nights costing 5000 points instead of paying cash. It’s a lot of points, but hopefully I’ll make use of globalist 🎉
Yeah, that can be a great option if you have the points! Unfortunately, there are no category 1 hotels near us in Vegas, but we are glad to have this option!
FYI guys this play is dead. MGM and Hyatt partnership has ended. They have partnered up with Marriott now. So this may be a play you could do for Marriott in the future. Sucks cause the Hyatt partnership imo was more valuable.
So I am also trying to get at least Hyatt explorist you're saying it's okay to stay at the same hotel for duration of the 10 nights and can those 10 nights be not all at once and do I have to physically be there?
Yes, they can be, but you need to make sure your hyatt number is on the reservation. I did this in person, but you might be able to call mgm to get them to add it.
Nice work! I'm doing the same thing -- but with comp days at Excalibu and Luxor! So my total bill should be around $170 when it all said and done (not including airfare and meals -- which i Iuyse points for). Have fun with your Globalist status!
Not sure if the content in the video is entirely accurate. It’s my understanding that the Explorist status you have during the challenge period does not allow you to do a Status Match to MGM gold. Did you folks actually get MGM gold with your temporary Explorist?
We didn't say we got the free mgm status from this challenge, though I understand now how people would think that. We have it from wyndham diamond to Caesars diamond to mgm gold.
We did something similar but in Bogota, Colombia. However I booked one 1 night stay and then booked 5 consecutive four night stays this way I could use the 6000 points I earned along the way to pay for the subsequent nights.
Interesting strategy. I think the “3000 pts bonus journey” ends on 5/26. So I am not sure if your 21 day stay was between March and May 26. How did you pay/redeem your 21 day at the MGM resort? Cash or Points?
That's correct! All but 2 days were between then (we had another trip in there so we couldn't fit all the days in). We paid cash, it's a cat 3 hyatt now, so would not be a great deal to pay points when I could book for $30 cash.
Yes, you can! Although you might have to go once or call to get your hyatt number attached to the reservation. I couldn't find any way to do it online.
Thanks! The explorist status from the promo apparently can't be matched to mgm gold. We had just explorist already from previously matching wyndham diamond to Caesars diamond to mgm gold to hyatt explorist. So we just matched hyatt back to mgm earlier this year when it expired.
I just did this! One night at The Cape Thompson Cabo (30k pts) + 19 nights at Hystt Regency in Mérida (3500 pts) and boom! Now I'm globalist. Shame I am 12/24 so I won't be able to get any more Hyatt points :(
Yeah they won't. It specifically excludes that. You can, however, get mgm gold a couple other ways. Like matching from Caesars diamond, which you can get from having the wyndham earner business card.
I want to ask in order for the nights to be qualified for bilt status challenge, the booking must be done through Hyatt website? Or MGM site is be ok as well? I always got the impression that the booking must be done through Hyatt.
Nope! Booking through MGM works too, just need to make sure when you check in that your hyatt number is on the reservation. I did it once the first time I checked in then they automatically had it every time (although it doesn't show in the app anywhere). Probably better if you want the resort fees waved and free parking since mgm only guarantees that to gold members when you go directly with MGM. Also, FYI, hyatt credits the nights to your account on Sunday around noon for the previous week I found out.
Is this promotion still active? I actually just came back from Vegas, booked room via MGM app and had to call Hyatt to pull the reservation. They still haven’t added my qualifying nights so I’m somewhat hesitant to do an additional 16 nights or so
The promotion is still active until July 16, but you had to register for the promo on the bilt app by April 1. Hyatt adds the nights in Sunday of every week around noon. So I wouldn't worry unless it's been at least that long.
@@samandtyler yea I didn’t register in time. I’m globalist in 2023 and would like to achieve that again for 2024. May just have to settle for Explorist through an MGM status match
It should post on Sunday for the previous week. Our first stay didn't automatically post to hyatt, so I messaged them, and they fixed it. No problems since. You should message them if it's been that long!
@minggotem6712 Hmm, it should have posted by now. You gave them your hyatt number when you checked in, right? If so, I'd message hyatt. This happened to me the first stay I did, and then after they fixed it, all the other ones showed up automatically.
How did you match your gold status? Tried doing it online and was told for this promo you can’t match status to mgm gold. It was in the terms and conditions
Yeah, that's true. We used our hyatt explorist status, which we got for free from matching from mgm gold status. We got that from matching Caesars diamond status, which we got for free from having the wyndham earner business card!
