**UPDATE**: I didn't know at the time, but Istana Woodneuk is off limits and you can be arrested for trespassing. I was reported to the police after Mothership did an article on my video.
May this serve as your warning!
Please bear it in mind if you decide to visit, and that you do so at your own risk!
Istana Woodneuk is an abandoned mansion located in Singapore that was built by the royal family of Johor in the late 19th century.
Join me as I take a look around and discover the history of this once palatial residence that has now fallen into disrepair.

There used to be another palace built just few years apart and not far from this woodneuk - the istana tyersall. With grand ballroom to fit 400 guests. It was demolished in 1935 after a fire breakout. The woodneuk in this video was built on new structure after being damaged by another fire incident. The original woodneuk was built back in 1870s for Sultan of Johore's Turkish bride given by the Ottoman empire.

Surprising excursion. But terribly sad and depressing considering that at one time it must have been a a hub of social events and parties. The legal status of the place must be in limbo with the owners and their descendants untraceable. Hence the the lack of development by the Govt too.

I’ve lived in this area for over forty years. I know where this place is. Forty years ago when things were less built up, it was pretty creepy going up that road beside it at night, much less the actual Istana itself. I’m surprised that you, a lao wai, managed to know about it and actually visited it. There are no clear trials or paths going into it. Good on you sir, subscribing.

Btw, it is Istana Tyersall and Woodneuk house. They are two separate buildings. Istana Tyersall had a red roof and has burnt to the ground. It’s not physically there anymore. Woodneuk house, built for the sultans’s wife, has a blue roof. She also died in it.

Check out another such building at Labrador. Just behind the Berlayar Beacon and on top of the hill slope. Not know if is still there after the park was built. Good possibility that it’s still there because it in the ‘jungle areas’ ... not at those bunkers areas which are now a tourist attraction. 50 yrs ago, as a boy, I use to explore this already run- down building. Don’t think the authority even know it existed. Come to Bukit Purmei, a small HDB estate, there’s a inconspicuous ‘kampung’ house smacks in the middle of the estate. Probably belongs to Malaysia owner. Won’t be surprise some residents staying here for 35 yrs also don’t know it’s there. Engchai Tan

There is a reason why people is not advised not to visit. The place is abandoned and the premises may be collapse due to wear and tear over time due to zero maintenance etc. Plus you never know if there could be dangerous animals down there. If you so choose to go there then don't blame anyone if you get seriously injured or loose your life.

There’s a such a building at Labrador Park. Don’t think people knows exactly where. 40yrs back it was there and I still think it’s there...devoured by the ‘jungle’ now. I use to explore that area when I was in my 20+, when that area was a rocky beach. Text me if you want to know further.

Another great video Richard! Was it safe? Looks desolate but it didn't feel like it didn't have visitors.

It's not too bad. Could be dangerous if you're fooling around. The main staircase is a bit dodgy, but there is a solid stone one at rear.
